A crystal-less FSK wireless transceiver is proposed for next-generation intelligent intensive care unit (ICU) healthcare systems. The transceiver delivers bidirectional data of the bio-signal collected from a patient and control signal from a centralized station. It features crystal-less design and direct frequency-shift-keying (FSK) modulation and demodulation at 1.4 GHz for low power consumption. As such, it transmits digital data without a local oscillator (LO) for frequency mixing. The system architecture is first verified using a hybrid system of commercial integrated circuits. The proposed transceiver is also designed in 0.18-μm CMOS technology.

Augmented reality (AR) is a promising technology for building applications in an Internet of Things (IoT) environment, utilized for visualizing information provided by IoT devices. In this paper, we enable Web-based mobile AR applications with mobile agents in a resource-oriented IoT system architecture. We present an adaptable mobile agent composition that contains the data representation logic and mappings between AR applications and system resources. Thus, mobile agents and AR application-specific data structures are exposed as global system resources. System resource linkages are considered between real-world objects and their virtual representations for mobile agent-based AR applications. The agent composition also complies with the REST principles for resource access and control system-wide. This allows dynamic runtime adaptation and addressing the device and resource heterogeneity, thus eliminating the need for application-specific communication protocols. Moreover, we utilize a Web-based mobile AR application framework, running completely in a Web browser, which facilitates straightforward AR application development. Lastly, a proof of concept mobile AR application is implemented, where a coffee maker with a visual tag is connected to a low-power resource-constrained wireless sensor network node as an IoT device. A mobile agent is injected into the IoT environment to expose the state changes of the coffee maker. Through the visual tag, AR applications are able to visualize the state changes of the coffee maker in their user interface.

ZigBee is a popular communication standard for wireless sensor networks. It suggests a distributed address assignment mechanism (DAAM), which is easy to implement but may restrict the number of children of a router and the depth of the network. Since DAAM is too conservative, the utilization of the 16-bit address pool may become poor, causing the orphan problem. In this paper, we propose a distributed address assignment scheme by allowing a parent to borrow a subtree of address space from a neighbor to alleviate the orphan problem. When a new node tries to associate with a parent router which has no free address, this parent router will inquire its 2-hop neighbors for lending a subtree of free address space. We also propose a light-weight routing to support one-to-one routing in this environment.

next-generation wireless networks integrate multiple wireless access technologies to provide seamless wireless connectivity for mobile nodes (MNs). When MNs move in wireless heterogeneous networks, they may suffer from the great degradation of received signal strength (RSS) and further quality of services (QoS), if randomly selecting an access point (AP). We address vertical handoff with game theory to enable MNs to trigger the handoff and select an appropriate network from multiple wireless access technologies. On the other hand, the existing vertical handoff schemes lack of jointly considering the behaviors of MNs and APs for approaching the reality. To solve this problem, we propose a repeated game based scheme for vertical handoff. Each sub-game is formulated as a non-cooperative strategic game between a MN and an AP in which the Nash equilibrium is the solution of each strategic game. The proposed repeated game is to optimize the utility functions of the whole network by finding an equilibrium point. We perform the performance analysis, which shows that proposed scheme can achieve better bandwidth utilization and throughput of the network compared to the AP random selection scheme.

Various reactive and proactive routing protocols are being used in Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) is one of the reactive routing protocols but high overhead involved in flooding while route creation is a limiting factor of DSR protocol. The paper aims to minimize the number of route requests (RREQs), which is a significant source of overhead for the DSR. In this paper, the modification of DSR algorithm is done to enhance its performance. In the proposed modified DSR i.e. Mobile internetwork broadcast infrastructure technique (MIKBIT) multicasting approach is used to reduce packet overheads. The considered network is IEEE 802.15.4, which is the emerging next generation wireless standard designed for low-rate wireless personal area networks (LR-WPAN). The performance parameters such as throughput, average end-to-end delay, average jitter and packet delivery ratio are evaluated for the proposed algorithm and compared with that of existing DSR routing protocol. Substantial improvement is achieved using the proposed algorithm.

Vehicle Ad hoc networks (VANETs) is an emerging wireless network technology whereby information is generally shared among vehicles through multi-hopping In literature, a number of routing approaches has been proposed for reducing the end-to-end delay. However, the routing approaches applied to support multicast service will be inefficient since none of them considered the share path in VANETs. This paper considers the delay-bound guaranteed multicast service where a vehicle aims to send a message to a group of vehicles using minimal bandwidth within a guaranteed delay bound. The source and multicast destinations are location-aware and trip-aware. Therefore the multicast approach developed for VANETs is totally different to the one in ad hoc networks. The proposed approach forwards the multicast message to the vehicles in the multicast group along the road segment with the least time cost, reserving as much as possible the remaining time for carry-and-forward transmissions which helps reduce the bandwidth consumption for packet transmissions.

next generation wireless backhaul systems may provide data rates exceeding 10 Gb/s using large bandwidth available at mmWave frequencies, and support features such as point-to-multipoint communication, non-line-of-sight communication, in-band operation (shared spectrum with access) and inter-BS coordination. We explore the feasibility of an “in-band” mmWave wireless base-station with the option of enabling backhaul transmission on one panel while simultaneously receiving access or backhaul on an adjacent panel. We show using simulations and lab measurement validation, that for a prototype 28 GHz mmWave system, the self-interference from the TX sector panel to the adjacent RX panel is around -70 to -80 dB and an additional 35-50 dB isolation is needed for enabling reception on adjacent RX panel that may be achieved through full duplex interference cancellation techniques.

In this paper, we present a novel bio-inspired trusted routing framework (B-iTRF) which composed of trust mechanism and routing strategy. For trust mechanism, B-iTRF monitors neighbors' behavior in real time and then assesses neighbors' trust value based on the priori knowledge. For routing strategy, each node finds routes to the Sink based on ant colony optimization. In the process of path finding, B-iTRF senses and calculates the metrics of the found routes to support the route selection. Moreover, B-iTRF also assesses the availability of route based on Physarum autonomic optimization to maintain the route table. Simulation results show that B-iTRF can achieve the effective performance compared to existing state-of-the-art algorithms.

Wireless mesh network is an emerging technology for the next generation wireless Internet. It works as a backhaul for other wireless network. There are number of issues which need to be considering in wireless mesh network. As in other networks like MANET, ADHOC, sensor power is the major constrained. But it is not so in WMN. So, Power can be optimally utilised. It can be used to increase throughput and channel utilization of the network. Here we will discuss some major issues which need to be considered in WMN. Wireless mesh network operates similar as the network of fixed routers only difference is that they are connected with the wireless links. This paper gives the brief overview of the issues exist in WMN and the existing channel assignment schemes in multicast WMN. The proposed scheme uses load balancing method to assign the channels.
