Secure communication of the location information or localization of sensor nodes in an adversarial environment is a high priority yet a challenging task. Wireless sensor networks are characterized by severe constraints such as memory, energy, processing and operational environment. Unlike other wireless networks, a sensor network has to be highly sensitive to energy consumption. Complexity and power consumption of sensor nodes must be as low as possible. A light-weight and secure localization mechanism is needed to optimize the WSN performance from a security perspective. In this paper we present a two-way ldquoGreet, Meet and Locaterdquo mechanism for secure location estimation in large scale wireless sensor networks based on geographical sectorization. A double-averaging mechanism is also presented that uses a time of arrival (TOA) based localization technique to help minimize the location estimation errors.

Emergency communication in heterogeneous networks with fragile connectivity is a challenging task. Emergency delay-tolerant network (EDTN) is a new network architecture based on the concept of delay tolerant networks (DTNs) to provide emergency service. However, existing transport protocols like TCP are not suitable to provide emergency service well with instable bandwidth and connectivity, because EDTN use opportunistic forwarding to achieve end-to-end communication. The paper proposes a hybrid layered network architecture for EDTN based on cluster classification without infrastructure. Especial investigation in the network model by introducing the data layer and control layer is also brought forward, which presents the various DTNs nodes and layer information interactions based on session initiation protocol (SIP). Moreover, we have extended the usage of EDTN in next generation network, which leads to the insights for the future theoretic study and project design.

Analysis of the generic attacks and countermeasures for block cipher based message authentication code algorithms (MAC) in sensor applications is undertaken; the conclusions are used in the design of two new MAC constructs quicker block chaining MAC1 (QBC-MAC1) and quicker block chaining MAC2 (QBC-MAC2). Using software simulation we show that our new constructs point to improvements in usage of CPU instruction clock cycle and energy requirement when benchmarked against the de facto cipher block chaining MAC (CBC-MAC) based construct used in the TinySec security protocol for wireless sensor networks.

ForCES (Forwarding and Control Element Separation) architecture brought forward by IETF shows great advantages for network devices such as routers, wireless base stations and etc to be flexible, programmable, and cost-effective. This paper researches on the transaction mechanism in ForCES router, based on the analysis of transaction requirement of ForCES, two phase commit algorithm is introduced and a state-machine based transaction implementation scheme is proposed. ForCES router test bed is built. The experiment result verifies the correctness and feasibility of the transaction mechanism proposed and implemented.

sensor networks are the next generation of technology for use in various applications, including tracking, monitoring and control. However, sensor networks still have some inherent security and hardware problems. The cluster routing scheme has been proposed in attempt to reduce duplication reports. Moreover, statistical en-route filtering (SEF) has been proposed to detect and drop the injected fabricated report found in the sensor network. When SEF method is applied in cluster-based sensor networks, their detection capabilities may be quite poor because the proposed schemes do not consider each possible feature that may be present. To solve this problem, we propose a cluster adaptation method to enhance the performance of SEF. The proposed method uses a fuzzy logic approach to form an efficient cluster for SEF. The sufficient performance of the proposed method is shown by the simulation results.

Energy saving is one of the important tasks in wireless communication due to the limited battery attached to the mobile devices. This paper has two parts. In the first part, we give a localized algorithm for constructing the Voronoi diagram with the given set of nodes in wireless networks. In the later part, an energy efficient network architecture for wireless networks using Voronoi diagram is described. This architecture is not only energy efficient but also provides other benefits such as less delay and randomization. The simulation work has been carried out using network simulator (ns2.29) and the results consolidate our claim.

Unlike the telephone network or the Internet, many of the next generation networks are not engineered for the purpose of providing efficient communication between various networked entities. Examples abound: sensor networks, peer-to-peer networks, mobile networks of vehicles and social networks. Indeed, these emerging networks do require algorithms for communication, computation, or merely spreading information. For example, estimation algorithms in sensor networks, broadcasting news through a peer-to-peer network, or viral advertising in a social network. These networks lack infrastructure; they exhibit unpredictable dynamics and they face stringent resource constraints. Therefore, algorithms operating within them need to be extremely simple, distributed, robust against network dynamics, and efficient in resource utilization. Gossip algorithms, as the name suggests, are built upon a gossip or rumor style unreliable, asynchronous information exchange protocol. Due to their immense simplicity and wide applicability, this class of algorithms has emerged as a canonical architectural solution for the next generation networks. This has led to exciting recent progress to understand the applicability as well as limitations of the gossip algorithms. In this survey, I will discuss some of these recent results on gossip network algorithms. The algorithmic results described here in a natural way bring together tools and techniques from Markov chain theory, optimization, percolation, random graphs, spectral graph theory, and coding.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) consist of a large number of nodes with limited battery power. Thus, the communication must be designed to conserve the limited energy resources of the nodes. In this paper, we propose a cluster-based multipath delivery scheme, called CMDS, which uses cluster and multipath to improve the capability of load balance, and thus prolonging the network lifetime. Firstly, CMDS organizes the nodes into clusters so that nodes communicate information only with clusterheads and clusterheads take the task of data aggregation. Then, clusterheads transmit information to base station (sink) along multiple paths. When clusterheads or intermediate nodes choose the next hop node for forwarding data, they will use some parameters, such as the residual energy and the number of hops to sink among the neighbors, that are helpful to distribute traffic among all nodes. Simulation results show that the CMDS has great potential in efficiently distributing energy consumption and extending the network lifetime.
