Wireless sensornetworks generally have three kinds of objects: sensor nodes, sinks, and users that send queries and receive data via the sinks. In addition, the user and the sinks are mostly connected to each other by infrastructure networks. The users, however, should receive the data from the sinks through multi-hop communications between disseminating sensor nodes if such users move into the sensornetworks without infrastructure networks. To support mobile users, previous work has studied various user mobility models. Nevertheless, such approaches are not compatible with the existing data-centric routing algorithms, and it is difficult for the mobile users to gather data efficiently from sensor nodes due to their mobility. To improve the shortcomings, we propose a view of mobility and propose a model to support a user mobility that is independent of sinks. The proposed model, finally, is evaluated by simulation of delivery ratio, latency, and network lifetime.

Detecting and tracking boundaries of a physical process by a large-scale sensornetworks are often desirable or even required in various applications. The first step in the detection and tracking procedures is edge detection. Most of the edge detection schemes proposed for sensornetworks require information on sensor locations. Also, quantitative measures by which performance of an edge detector for sensornetworks can be analyzed have not been available. In this paper edge detectors which do not require the absolute or relative location of each sensor node are proposed along with a set of metrics used for performance analysis. Detailed performance analysis results obtained through simulation, varying parameters such as sensor density, communication range, and noise level, are provided.

This paper describes an anticipated mobility between the two access technologies WLAN and UNITS considered as complementary technologies for nextgenerationnetworks integration. We propose to apply Anticipated Vertical Handover (AVHO) in the integration of the third generation wireless communication (3G) from one side and WLAN 802.11 from the other side. The proposed AVHO offers mobile users, roaming in nextgenerationnetworks, fast handover based on a pre-network selection such as the "make-before-break" approach used in fast MIP handovers. The next-generation (4G) wireless communication systems focus on the seamless integration of various existing wireless communicationnetworks, such as integrating the third-generation (3G) cellular networks and wireless local area network (WLAN). Resource management (RM) is one of the essential techniques to improve both overall resource utilization and quality-of-service (QoS) provisioning. In this paper, we proposed a novel joint resource management scheme with QoS provisioning. A joint call admission policy is derived to support heterogeneous network architecture, service types, user mobility characteristics, and QoS levels. To relieve traffic congestion, an optimal channel searching and replacement algorithm (oCSR) and passive handoff techniques are further developed to balance total system traffic between WLAN and 3G cellular network as well as to reduce average system QoS cost, such as weighted blocking probability. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that our scheme outperforms both traditional disjoint RM and joint RM without optimization.

The energy efficiency is one of the key concerns in sensornetworks for their better performance, as sensor nodes are limited in their battery power. In this paper, a location based algorithm, EAGR (Energy Aware Greedy Routing), is presented for sensornetworks to extend the lifetime of the network and to get the higher data delivery rate and to balance the energy consumption of nodes. In EAGR, each node makes the local decision to choose its next hop. This algorithm works on forwarding rule based on location and energy levels of nodes. Each node knows its own geographic location & its energy levels and the location & energy level of its neighbors. The transmitting node writes the geographic position of destination into the packet header and forwards it to the destination by establishing the sub-destinations. Now these sub-destination nodes should be alive and geographically near to the destination node to route the packet by choosing the shortest and reliable path. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm gives the better performance in terms of higher data delivery rate and less number of dead nodes. Consequently, EAGR can effectively increase the lifetime of the network.
