We compare different methods to optimize end-to-end a hybrid optical/digital system for best and most uniform performance over the field-of-view with the Synopsys((R)) CodeV((R)) lens design software. We have extended the native optimization capability of this software by implementing different methods that leverage the deconvolution during the optimization process of the hybrid optical system as a whole, including simultaneously their optical and digitalimageprocessing parts. We show that the joint optimization of the lens and the processing through a true restored-image quality criterion significantly enhances the final post-processed image quality, and allows to fine-tune the residual balancing between on-axis and peripheral fields with simple weighting coefficients.

In the realm of ex-vivo diagnosis, the integration of optical and chemical imaging data has emerged as a transformative approach, offering a comprehensive understanding of biological specimens at a molecular level. Chemical imaging of human tissue specimens provides an all-digital label-free approach to imaging in objective histopathology, though it requires reference to gold standard pathological (e.g. haematoxylin and eosin (H+E) stained) images for pathological interpretation. optical imaging techniques, such as microscopy and spectroscopy, provide detailed spatial information, capturing morphological features with high resolution. Concurrently, chemical imaging methods, including mass spectrometry and Raman spectroscopy, offer insights into molecular composition. The challenge lies in harnessing the complementary strengths of these disparate modalities to extract a holistic understanding of the sample. In this work we present the results of several image alignment approaches for fusion and integration of chemical and pathological imaging data, demonstrating that the process of corner detection is crucial towards precise image alignment.

Color accuracy is crucial in several domains such as biomedical imaging, cosmetics, and multimedia. digital Light processing (DLP) with LEDs has increasingly become a popular lighting source in 3D scanning systems. Although DLP provides advantages in 3D reconstruction, it poses challenges in maintaining color accuracy. Our research focused on using hybrid lighting to improve the color accuracy of DLP-based 3D sensing systems. We developed an empirical dataset featuring skin tones captured under multiple lighting environments, including variations in indoor ambient lighting. Through qualitative and quantitative evaluations of color differences, we conclude that including auxiliary lighting with DLP is beneficial for color accuracy, particularly in biomedical imaging and other applications in which color accuracy is essential.
