The assessment of pain is a difficult topic that may be facilitated by the quantification of some of the phenomena usually involved in the sensation of pain, such as thermal abnormalities. digital thermal imaging is a technique that records the skin temperature distribution of the body and thus can provide some insight in thermal dysfunction associated with pain. In this paper, we propose several digitalprocessing steps to analyze thermal images of pain patients and summarize the results with a computer-aided decision-support system. Results from our analysis are expected to be validated by a statistical comparison with actual medical outcomes for the pain patients considered in the study.

Wave-front coding technology refers to placing a phase mask at the aperture stop of a traditional optical system, modulating the wavefront and phase of the incident light field at the pupil, and finally using the digitalimageprocessing method to decode to realize computational imaging. Depth of Field (DOF) is a significant issue, the wavefront of the optical system is modulated by inserting a phase plate, so that optical modulation transfer function (MTF) and point spread function (PSF) are not sensitive to the changes of the object distances within a large depth of field range. Finally, image restoration is achieved by decoding, and clear images with a large depth of field are obtained. Compared with previous work, we innovatively proposed a high-order polynomial phase plate design, considering manufacturing difficulty as an optimization factor, and finally realized 200m-100km ultra-large depth-of-field imaging in a remote sensing optical system without a focusing mechanism.

optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems often struggle with low-resource languages like Bugis due to script complexity and limited digitized resources. This research aims to improve OCR accuracy for Bugis–Indonesian dictionary conversion by applying advanced image pre-processing techniques. We evaluated the performance of Tesseract-Vanilla, Tesseract with imageMagick, Python PIL, and ChatGPT's OCR models by measuring Character Error Rate (CER) and Word Error Rate (WER). The results show that Tesseract with imageMagick significantly outperformed other methods, reducing CER from 8.94% to 2.82% and WER from 35.35% to 13.54%. These findings highlight the effectiveness of pre-processing techniques in enhancing OCR performance for low-resource languages like Bugis.

In the optical transmission of information, communication channels can be compressed by superposition of several spatial modes (with given weights carrying information) in one beam at the input of the transmitting system. This problem is quite effectively solved by diffraction optics using various coding methods. At the output of the transmitting system, recognition (detection) of a set of modes contained in the beam is required. In this case, rather complex multi-order optical elements are used, which make it possible to determine only the modulus of the coefficients. Subsequent digitalprocessing is required to recover the relative phases of the coefficients. In this paper, we consider the problem of reconstructing the complex coefficients of the superposition of Hermite-Gaussian modes from the field intensity in a certain plane perpendicular to the propagation axis at a given distance using the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm.
