In medical imaging, efficient segmentation of colon polyps plays a pivotal role in minimally invasive solutions for colorectal cancer. This study introduces a novel approach employing two parallel encoder branches within a network for polyp segmentation. One branch of the encoder incorporates the dual convolution blocks that have the capability to maintain feature information over increased depths, and the other block embraces the single convolution block with the addition of the previous layer's feature, offering diversity in feature extraction within the encoder, combining them before transpose layers with a depth-wise concatenation operation. Our model demonstrated superior performance, surpassing several established deep-learning architectures on the Kvasir and CVC-ClinicDB datasets, achieved a Dice score of 0.919, a mIoU of 0.866 for the Kvasir dataset, and a Dice score of 0.931 and a mIoU of 0.891 for the CVC-ClinicDB. The visual and quantitative results highlight the efficacy of our model, potentially setting a new model in medical image segmentation.

This paper is intended as a short follow-up to our last publication on the use of polarization-based imaging techniques and metrology applications. With their increasing resolution, memory availability and computing capacity, smartphones have become a common means for image and video documentation, geodetic and metrological data acquisition and similar applications in recent years. We are investigating concepts for smartphone-based polarimetric image acquisition and evaluation in field measurement campaigns. Technical applications are, for example, the mobile examination of larger areas with regard to contamination, damage to coatings, corrosion and the like, but also artistic photography, e.g. for paintings and sculptures. In addition to pure data acquisition, image pre-processing and analysis can be carried out in the field by means of mobile image processing applications. In the paper we discuss such concepts, their feasibility and robust extensions for smartphones that could lead to applications that actually take advantage of the smartphone's mobility.

The need for efficient and reliable image processing techniques has never been greater in medical imaging. The proposed work analyzes and designs parallel VLSI (Very Large-Scale Integration) architectures that meet the stringent demands of high-throughput medical image processing. The remainder of the paper is organized as follows, beginning with a discussion of the computational challenges that arise organically in medical imaging and why it is crucial to surmount these obstacles. The section on the proposed work describes the architecture, parallelization strategies, and processing pipeline, providing context for the hardware and Software underlying the system. The evaluation results below demonstrate significant enhancements in processing speed and image quality. Due to their real-time capabilities and high efficiency, parallel VLSI architectures have the potential to revolutionize medical image processing, resulting in more accurate diagnoses and more effective treatments. Research into optimizing these structures and discovering new applications is anticipated to result in further advances in medical imaging. © 2024 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

The distance transform (DT) serves as a crucial operation in numerous image processing and pattern recognition methods, finding broad applications in areas such as skeletonization, map-matching robot self-localization, biomedical imaging, and analysis of binary images. The concept of DT computation can also be extended to non-grid structures and graphs for the calculation of the shortest paths within a graph. This paper introduces two distinct algorithms: the first calculates the DT within a connected plane graph, while the second is designed to compute the DT in a binary image. Both algorithms demonstrate parallel logarithmic complexity of O(log(n)), with n representing the maximum diameter of the largest region in either the connected plane graph or the binary image. To attain this level of complexity, we make the assumption that a sufficient number of independent processing elements are available to facilitate massively parallel processing. Both methods utilize the hierarchical irregular pyramid structure, thereby retaining topological information across regions. These algorithms operate entirely on a local level, making them conducive to parallel implementations. The GPU implementation of these algorithms showcases high performance, with memory bandwidth posing the only significant constraint. The logarithmic complexity of the algorithms boosts execution speed, making them particularly suited to handling large images.

parallel processing is a procedure for making computation of more than a processor to overcome the difficulty of separate parts of an overall task. It is really crucial for some medicine-related tasks since the method provide time-efficient computation by a program, thus several calculations could be made simultaneously. Whereas, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the medical imaging methods to show form of an anatomy and biological progressions of a human body. parallel processing methods could be useful for being implemented in MRI with the aim of getting real-time, interventional and time-efficient acquisition of images. Given the need of faster computation on brain MRI to get early and real-time feedbacks in medicine, this paper presents a systematic review of the literature related to brain MRIs focusing on the emerging applications of parallel processing methods for the analysis of brain MRIs. We investigate the articles consisting of these kernels with literature matrices including their, materials, methods, journal types between 2013 and 2023. We distill the most prominent key concepts of parallel processing methods.

Through-Wall radar plays an important role in detecting moving targets behind walls in counter-terrorism and urban-sensing. While there has been a lot of research on moving target detection algorithm design, most of them suffer from high complexity in implementation for real-time detection, and thus limiting the practical applications. This paper proposes a real-time detection technology of moving target by through-wall radar based on GPU. This method includes multi-stream asynchronous parallel technology of the Displaced Phase Center Antenna based on GPU for clutter suppression module, block-thread parallel technology of the Back-Projection based on GPU for imaging module, and inter-block parallel and intra-block reduction technology of 2D Constant False Alarm Rate based on GPU for detection module. Based on CPU-GPU dual devices in through-wall radar system, this method can output the detection result per second, which meets the needs of real-time detection of moving targets in practical applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Infrared hyperspectral cameras are complicated in structure, require a large amount of imaging data, and the array detector is expensive, which is not conducive to the efficient imaging and real-time data analysis of objects in the infrared regime. Singl- pixel imaging offers a solution by employing compressed sampling. This paper describes the design and real time operation of a parallel single-pixel near infrared hyperspectral imaging system which can obtain a 128×128×256 spectral cube image with a spectral resolution of 4 nm within the range of 975 to 1736 nm. The compression rate and reconstructed image quality using different orderings of the Hadamard modulation basis, including the natural, cake cutting, and the Russian dolls sequences, are compared. A good reconstructed image of a dynamic object can be realized even with a compression sampling rate as low as 0.78% with the Russian doll sequence. The method proposed in this paper should have many potential applications due to its efficient sampling and high-speed reconstruction enabled by parallel spectral channel computation. © 2024 SPIE.

Visual question answering (VQA) is an artificial intelligence (AI) and computer vision (CV) comprehensive task to answer questions about the visual content of an image, such as "what color is the bus?" or "how many people are in the photo?" VQA has shown great potential and importance in various domains, ranging from medical imaging applications, autonomous driving, to virtual assistants and search engines. This study develops a framework to tackle VQA research challenges by adopting and extending recent breakthroughs in attention techniques, natural language processing, and image classification models. In addition, different from other previous work that uses static question embedding, we investigate how alternative dynamic embedding models enhance the effectiveness of VQA task. The work is evaluated using the latest developed VQA v2 dataset with a 9% improvement over the results obtained with static word embedding. We also deployed the model as a cloud based VQA system to facilitate VQA tasks in real-life applications.

Nonlinear frequency modulation scaling algorithm can effectively solve the problem of strongly coupled echo, but sequential NFM signal scaling method is difficult to meet the real-time imaging requirements. In this project, the nonlinear frequency modulation scaling method based on subaperture is used to improve the computational efficiency of the algorithm. The real-time nonlinear frequency modulation scale-up imaging algorithm is implemented in parallel on a heterogeneous multi-core prototype chip. Compared with the traditional serial method, this method has higher parallel speed and operation speed. Compared with the traditional single subaperture method, the real-time efficiency of this method is as high as 90.06%. © 2023 IEEE.

In the field of image processing and computer vision, negative imaging is vital for applications like medical imaging, art, and data enhancement. This paper introduces an efficient approach for negative image creation using an approximate 8-bit binary parallel subtractor (ABPS) circuit. The ABPS circuit reduces area usage by 33% and significantly cuts delay by 68.4% compared to conventional subtractor. The ABPS circuit balances precision and speed, making it ideal for tasks where small errors are acceptable. The efficacy of ABPS is demonstrated through its successful application in generating negative images, underscoring its performance. © 2023 IEEE.
