Recently there has been many studies on backdoor attacks, which involve injecting poisoned samples into the training set in order to embed backdoors into the model. Existing multiple poisoned samples attacks usually randomly select a subset from clean samples to generate the poisoned samples. Filtering-and-Updating Strategy (FUS) has shown that the poisoning efficiency of each poisoned sample is inconsistent and random selection is not optimal. However, FUS does not fully considered the selection of multiple poisoned samples, there are still some issues with the selection of multiple poisoned samples. In this paper, we formulate the selection of multiple types of poisoned samples as a multi-objective optimization problem and proposed a Multiple Poisoned Samples Selection Strategy (MPS) to solve the issue. Unlike FUS, we consider the potential of clean samples that are not selected as to become efficient poisoned samples. Specifically, we use a weight-based contribution approach to calculate the contribution of each sample (clean sample and poisoned sample) during the training process from multiple dimensions. Finally, based on the greedy approach, we retain a subset of samples with the largest contribution in each dimension through iterations. We evaluate the effectiveness of MPS on various attack methods, including BadNet, Blended, ISSBA, and WaNet, as well as benchmark datasets. The experimental results on CIFAR-10 and GTSRB show that MPS can increase the attack strength by 1.45% to 18.34% compared to RSS and 0.43% to 10.84% compared to FUS in multiple poisoned samples attacks, thereby enhancing the stealthiness of the attack. Meanwhile, MPS is suitable for black-box settings, meaning that poisoned samples selected in one setting can be applied to other settings.

Large-scale distributed training of Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) on state-of-the-art platforms is expected to be severely communication constrained. To overcome this limitation, numerous gradient compression techniques have been proposed and have demonstrated high compression ratios. However, most existing methods do not scale well to large scale distributed systems (due to gradient build-up) and/or fail to evaluate model fidelity (test accuracy) on large datasets. To mitigate these issues, we propose a new compression technique, Scalable Sparsified Gradient Compression (ScaleCom), that leverages similarity in the gradient distribution amongst learners to provide significantly improved scalability. Using theoretical analysis, we show that ScaleCom provides favorable convergence guarantees and is compatible with gradient all-reduce techniques. Furthermore, we experimentally demonstrate that ScaleCom has small overheads, directly reduces gradient traffic and provides high compression rates (65-400X) and excellent scalability (up to 64 learners and 8-12X larger batch sizes over standard training) across a wide range of applications (image, language, and speech) without significant accuracy loss.

Outcome-based education is being adapted in most of the engineering colleges across India. This process is being accredited by a national body called National Board of Accreditation (NBA) in India. This accreditation process involves a continuous process of defining Program Outcomes (POs) and Course Outcomes (COs) and these are evaluated to check the OBE outcome level. This course evaluation includes course content, evaluation methods used for students' evaluation, pedagogy of teaching, Bloom's taxonomy mapping of learning levels, feedback from stakeholders and results and outcome analysis. If the required level is not attained, the COs and POs are reviewed and accordingly curriculum is revised. There are a lot of challenges being faced by faculty in this process of creating and assessing the curriculum as per NBA standards. These challenges are unique and non-trivial for PDC/HPC (parallel and distributed Computing/High-Performance Computing) courses. The preparation of OBE-based PDC/HPC course involves a lot of stakeholders and brainstorming over multiple sessions. Many universities are adopting PDC/HPC courses more recently across the world. With an intention to create a pointer for developing, delivering and reviewing a PDC/HPC course, this paper presents the course development process for the benefit of various stakeholders and specially PDC/HPC educators and institutions. This research paper presents the undergraduate teaching experience of parallel computing (PC) course with a critical evaluation based on course Outcomes (COs) and Bloom's taxonomy mapping of learning levels. This paper compiles a list of challenges faced by PDC/HPC educators and stakeholders focusing on the Indian education scenario. It lists the activities and the suggestions that can be applied to address these challenges suitably. NASA has committed to open-source science that enables Earth observation data transparency, inclusivity, accessibility, and reproducibility – all fundamental to the pace and quality of scientific progress. We have embraced this vision by producing standard InSAR science products that are freely available to the public through NASA Data Active Archive Centers (DAACs) and are generated using state-of-the-art open-source and openly-developed methods. The Advanced Rapid image Analysis (ARIA) project’s Sentinel-1 Geocoded Unwrapped Phase product (ARIA-S1-GUNW) is a 90 meter InSAR product that spans major, land-based fault systems, the US Coasts, and active volcanic regions through the complete Sentinel-1 record. The products enable the measurement of centimeter-scale surface displacement with applications across the solid earth, hydrology, and sea-level disciplines. The ARIA-S1-GUNW also enables rapid response mapping of surface motion after earthquakes, landslides, and subsidence. The ARIA-S1-GUNW products are freely available through the Alaska Satellite Facility (ASF) DAAC. In the last year, we have successfully grown the archive to over 1.1 million products, a 6 fold increase, through NASA ACCESS by improving our processing workflow and leveraging HyP3, an AWS-based cloud processing environment. We are continuing to partner with researchers to generate more products over relevant areas of scientific interest. All the processing software and cloud infrastructure are open-source to ensure reproducibility and enable other scientists to modify, improve upon, and scale their own cloud workflows for related InSAR analyses. We have, in parallel, developed and supported open-source, well-documented tools to further streamline time-series analysis from the ARIA-S1-GUNW into deformation analysis workflows.

Discourse structure analysis has shown to be useful for many artificial intelligence (AI) tasks such as text sum-marization and text categorization. However, for the Chinese news domain, the discourse structure analysis system is still immature due to the limitation of the lack of expert-annotated datasets. In this paper, we present CNA, a Chinese news corpus containing 1155 news articles annotated by human experts, which covers four domains and four news media sources. Next, we implement several text classification methods as baselines. Experimental results demonstrate that document-level method can achieve a better performance, and we further propose a document-level neural network model with multiple sentence features which achieves the state-of-the-art performance. In the end, we analyze the content type distribution of each sentence in CNA and the prediction errors of our model that occurred on the test set. Maximum likelihood estimation has been widely adopted along with the encoder-decoder framework for video captioning. However, it ignores the structure of sentences and restrains the diversity and distinction of generated captions. To address this issue, we propose a hard contrastive learning (HCL) method for video captioning. Specifically, built on the encoder-decoder framework, we introduce mismatched pairs to learn a reference distribution of video descriptions. The target model on the matched pairs is learned on top the reference model, which improves the distinctiveness of generated captions. In addition, we further boost the distinctiveness of the captions by developing a hard mining technique to select the hardest mismatched pairs within the contrastive learning framework. Finally, the relationships among multiple relevant captions for each video is consider to encourage the diversity of generated captions. The proposed method generates high quality captions which effectively capture the specialties in individual videos. Extensive experiments on two benchmark datasets, i.e., MSVD and MSR-VTT, show that our approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

In this paper, a robust target localization method based on iterative reweight least squares (IRWLS) is presented to against outliers in distributed MIMO radars. Unlike conventional weight least squares model which derived from the maximum likelihood estimator (MLE), the proposed robust global cost function is established based on least absolute model. Since the least absolute is nontrivial to solve directly, we convert it into a reweight least squares problem. After that, we linearize the relation between target location and bistatic range (BR) without introducing any nuisance parameters, which is different from existing linearization methods. The solution of proposed method can be obtained efficiently via iteration with closed-form expression. Simulation results validate the robust performance of proposed method under low SNR condition and outliers. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper proposes a deep RGB and thermal image fusion method for pedestrian detection. A two-branch structure is designed to learn the features of RGB and thermal images respectively, and these features are fused with a cross-modality feature selection module for detection. It includes the following stages. First, we learn features from paired RGB and thermal images through a backbone network with a residual structure, and add a feature squeeze-excitation module to the residual structure;Then we fuse the learned features from two branches, and a cross-modality feature selection module is designed to strengthen the effective information and compress the useless information during the fusion process;Finally, multi-scale features are fused for pedestrian detection. Two sets of experiments on the public KAIST pedestrian dataset are conducted, and experimental results show that our method is better than the state-of-the-art methods. The robustness of fused features is improved, and the miss rate is reduced obviously. © 2021, IFIP International Federation for Information processing.

Under the guidance of national policies, the number of electric vehicles has shown a sudden growth. Therefore, to achieve friendly interaction between electric vehicles and the power grid at the information technology level, this paper introduces an impact factor in the Gray Model (GM (1,1)) to obtain the change of electric vehicle ownership under the guidance of policy. Through experimental comparison, it is found that the optimized model has improved its accuracy compared with the previous model. The charging characteristics of electric taxis, electric buses, and electric private cars are analyzed, then the Monte Carlo method is applied to quantize the charging load requirements of electric vehicles at different penetration rates. In addition, the results show that under high permeability, the load pressure on the grid wm increase by six percent on the peak.
