IP spoofing is prevalently used in DDoS attacks for anonymity and amplification, making them harder to prevent. Combating spoofing attacks requires the collaboration of different autonomous systems (ASes). Existing methods either lack flexibility in collaboration or require centralized control in the inter-AS environment. In this paper, we propose a distributed Collaboration System (DISCS) for inter-AS spoofing defense, which allows ASes to flexibly collaborate in spoofing defense in a distributed manner. Each DISCS-enabled AS implements four defense functions. When a victim AS is under a spoofing attack, it can request other ASes to execute the most appropriate defense functions. We present the distributed and flexible control plane design and the backward compatible and incrementally deployable data plane design for both IPv4 and IPv6. We evaluate DISCS with theoretical proof and simulations using real Internet data. The results show that DISCS has strong deployment incentives, high effectiveness, minimal false positives, modest resource consumption and strong security.

The paper focuses on the problem of the multi-spectral image segmentation, which leads-through the data fusion of several mono-spectral images-to reliable and robust vision systems for military or industrial purposes. The proposed approach does not fit the classical taxonomy of image data fusion methods: indeed, data fusion is performed during the segmentation, in parallel, of different images. The presented algorithm has been implemented on the Connection Machine CM5 with the data programming style.< >

This paper presents a lithium-ion battery pack equalization system and method. The batteries are divided into several groups, which are connected in parallel with the bidirectional DC-DC converters respectively, and the output of DC-DC converters ends are connected in series with each other as a DC bus. The scheme divides equalization of the cells into two stages: intra-group equalization and inter-group equalization, and the two stages are respectively realized by battery time-sharing-access structure and stack energy-sharing structure. Then equalization strategy of the distributed battery energy storage system under two stages is proposed, especially the Single Cell Battery Access Timing Algorithm and MPC Algorithm. The simulation results show that the proposed battery management structure and control strategy can realize fast and accurate SOC equalization.

Enhancement of low resolution images is always a priority Enhancement of low resolution images is always a priority field of digital image processing. In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid approach based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and particle swarm optimization (PSO). To develop the proposed method we use spatial domain as well as frequency domain. To reduce the low frequencies from the input image we use the frequency domain. DWT is used to decompose the input low resolution image into different sub bands. Each of the interpolated high frequency sub band (LH, HL, HH) is then summed up with the interpolated output image of the frequency domain. In order to achieve high resolution image, the estimated high frequency sub bands of the intermediate stage and the interpolated low resolution input image have been combined by using inverse DWT. To generate a better high resolution image particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique has been used. The quantitative (root mean square error, normalized cross correlation, normalized absolute error) and visual outcome show the strength of this proposed method.

Nowadays, the simulation becomes an essential part of the scientific findings validation and experimentation. It becomes crucial to researchers to launch simulations in order to evaluate and test their models and algorithms on computer platforms. However, research dissemination methods suffer from a major lack as they do not allow publishing simulation code and scripts along with the published papers. Furthermore, conventional simulation software solutions have solely been designed to allow online and crowd testing of simulation codes and scripts. This paper demonstrates our ongoing development project of a Simulation as a Service platform called "RunMyCode". RunMyCode enables scientists to openly share the underlying code and data within their research publications. Moreover, relying on the powerful parallel processing feature of the grid-based platform, scientists can launch effortlessly and simultaneously a collection of simulations codes and scripts using the same set of input data and the same - or different - running environments. The outputs of these simulations are then and displayed in the same view enabling the user to compare the functional and non-functional performance of the different selected simulation codes.

Elasticity is highly desirable for stream systems to guarantee low latency against workload dynamics, such as surges in arrival rate and fluctuations in data distribution. Existing systems achieve elasticity using a resource-centric approach that repartitions keys across the parallel instances, i.e. executors, to balance the workload and scale operators. However, such operator-level repartitioning requires global synchronization and prohibits rapid elasticity. We propose an executor-centric approach that avoids operator-level key repartitioning and implements executors as the building blocks of elasticity. By this new approach, we design the Elasticutor framework with two level of optimizations: i) a novel implementation of executors, i.e., elastic executors, that perform elastic multi-core execution via efficient intra-executor load balancing and executor scaling and ii) a global model-based scheduler that dynamically allocates CPU cores to executors based on the instantaneous workloads. We implemented a prototype of Elasticutor and conducted extensive experiments. We show that Elasticutor doubles the throughput and achieves up to two orders of magnitude lower latency than previous methods for dynamic workloads of real-world applications.

This paper presents the parallel Heterogeneous Architecture Technology (PHAT), a scalable design methodology for prototyping and evaluating heterogeneous arrays of software-programmable VLIW processors and both manually designed and automatically-compiled custom hardware accelerators, using a shared memory architecture for communication. We discuss the trade-offs and breakeven point for switching from bus-based to network-on-chip interconnects, the interface and protocols for connecting distributed on-chip caches and multi-bank out-of-order off-chip-memories, as well as the impact of floorplanning on the quality of results for implementation on Xilinx Virtex 6 LX 760 devices. The capabilities are evaluated at the system-level on the multi-FPGA Convey HC-1ex hybrid-core computer, accessing its high-performance memory system, and integrating r-VEX processor cores with IP blocks for SHA and FFT computations.

Grids technologies enable the deployment of complex data-intensive scientific applications. Nonspecific scientific codes may benefit from grid computing capabilities by (i) assembling codes in workflows (code parallelism) and (ii) processing large amounts of data (data parallelism). We designed MOTEUR, a service-based workflow manager, to describe data-intensive scientific applications in a compact framework and to efficiently process the resulting computations by transparently exploiting different parallelism levels. Theoretical performances are analyzed and results are shown based on a real application to medical image databases processing

Maximum likelihood (ML) estimation is used during tomosynthesis mammography reconstruction. A single reconstruction involves the processing of high-resolution projection images, which is both compute-intensive and time-consuming. This workload is presently a bottleneck in the accurate diagnosis of breast cancer during screening. This paper presents our parallelization work on an ML algorithm using three different partitioning models: no inter-communication, overlap with inter-communication and non-overlap model. These models are evaluated to obtain the best reconstruction performance given a range of computing environments with different computational power and network speed. Our test results show that the non-overlap method outperforms the other two methods on all five computing platforms evaluated. This parallelization of ML has enabled tomosynthesis to become a viable technology in the breast screening clinic, reducing reconstruction time from 3 hours on a PentiumIVworkstation to 6 minutes on a 32-node PentiumIV cluster

Nailfold capillary microscopy examination has been used since late 1950s as a non-invasive in-vivo technique for diagnosing and monitoring connective tissue disease in adults. Disorders such as Primary Raynaud's phenomenon, progressive systemic sclerosis, and rheumatoid arthritis were detected in more than 80% of adult patients, by analyzing such high resolution images. Internet computing and grid technologies promise to change the way we tackle complex problems. Grid computing environments are characterized by interconnecting a number of heterogeneous hosts in geographically distributed domains. They enable large-scale aggregation and sharing of computational, data and other resources across institutional boundaries. In this paper, we discuss and develop a framework for nailfold capillary microscope image acquisition and analysis, using computational power provided by grid platforms. In this way, not only useful medical information can be extracted from large amount of history anamneses in an efficient way, with the use of a number of adequate techniques and methods in high performance computing, but also to diagnose abnormal nailfold capillary in far shorter time, to diagnose patient's disease in real-time basis. Based on the results of the classification, analysis of history anamneses are done to discover updated health information possibly hidden in patients' medical records.
