We introduce a hydraulic quadruped robot, JINPOONG ii, designed to qualify as a base platform for mobile manipulation. The mobile manipulation process in the field environment can be classified into three stages: "Approach," "Stretch-out," and "Manipulation." To qualify as suitable the mobile platform must have "mobility," "dexterity" to perform each stage, and "stability" to ensure stable operation of every process of stages. The quadruped robot is the most suitable candidate for mobile manipulator application because it can satisfy these requirements. We adopted a SLIP-based leg mechanism and a suitable control strategy to configure a quadruped robot that meets the qualifications. We then tested JINPOONG ii's performance of body motion and interaction with external forces to verify whether the subject robot has the required qualifications in line with the design intent. The results established that JINPOONG ii could perform 6 DoF motions of the body and various other compliance motions and walking on rough terrain. This indicates that JINPOONG ii is equipped with qualifications as a base platform for mobile manipulators.

Buildings are responsible for similar to 30% of primary energy consumption, mainly because of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. The usual ON/OFF controller tends to react to occupancy presence, causing discomfort and energy waste. Furthermore, these controllers usually focus on thermal comfort and disregard other comforts, such as air quality, visual, etc. due to their inability to handle complex multi-objective problems. In this context, Model Predictive controller (MPC) presents a promising alternative for dynamic control of HVAC systems. However, the accuracy of the building's thermal and air quality models greatly influences the MPC performance. This paper proposes simple models to develop a multi-objective MPC to minimize energy consumption while maintaining occupancy thermal and air quality comfort. Each models are developed using the limited data available. Since these models largely depend on occupancy information, a further study is conducted to analyze the impact of occupancy estimation accuracy on MPC performance. It is found that occupancy estimation models reach 98% of the optimum performance with a 90% accuracy.

As network management operations increasingly rely on automation and finer control actions, there is a need for precise telemetry systems. In-band network Telemetry (INT) methods use data packets to carry telemetry and give real-time insights about networkperformance. Existing solutions often require specialized hardware or offer limited runtime configuration options. This work presents an INT Framework for heterogeneous private networks, targeting industrial and multimedia applications. The framework is designed to be flexible and runtime-reconfigurable, addressing challenges in real-world applications. We provide implementation details of our elements supporting the configurability and the consolidation of raw telemetry into high-level Quality of Service (QoS) metrics. We evaluated the framework in a testbed with wired and wireless devices. The results show the accuracy in monitoring QoS, as well as an analysis of synchronization requirements, showcasing the feasibility of our framework for solutions requiring precise and flexible QoS monitoring.

The IBM Z microprocessor, Telum ii, has been redesigned for the zNext system to improve performance and system capacity over the previous z16 system [1]. The system topology consists of four Dual-Chip Modules (DCM), each composed of two central-processor (CP) chips per drawer. The system can be configured with up to four drawers and a total of 32 CP chips in a fully coherent shared memory system. The CP (Fig. 2.2.7) is a 600mm2 die containing 43B transistors and is designed in Samsung 5nm bulk technology [2]. It contains over 24 miles of wire and 165B vias spread across 18 layers of metal: 8 narrow-width layers for local interconnect, 8 medium width-high performance layers, and two ultra-thick layers for off-chip signal routing and power/clock distribution. The combination of die size increase and library improvements allowed us to keep 8 cores per CP, while adding a new Data Processing Unit (DPU) onto the chip. Each CP operates at 5.5GHz. Each core has a 128KB L1 instruction cache, and a 128KB data cache. Each CP also has 2 PCIe Gen5 ×16 interfaces, an M-BUS interface to the other CP on the DCM, and an X-BUS interface to every CP in the other 3 DCMs per drawer. There is 1 A-BUS interface to connect 6 out of the 8 CPs in each drawer to the other drawers in the system. The clock network is designed with a 1:1 resonant mesh covering most of the chip and three small asynchronous non-resonant meshes for the memory and PCIe interfaces. In addition, Telum ii adds an on-chip voltage control loop for improved dynamic voltage management, which maintains performance without requiring higher voltages across all workloads [3]. Key system capacity and performance improvements came from enhancements to the core and the increased cache size. Telum ii increases the number of L2 cache instances from 8 to 10 and uses Samsung's high-density SRAM cell to grow the L2 cache by 40% from 32MB on Telum to 36MB per L2 cache instance. Significant performance improvements in bandwidth and latency make 5G a suitable candidate for a wide range of applications, particularly those requiring real-time communication, such as Industrial controlsystems (ICS) and autonomous vehicles. However, today's security, including modern cryptographic systems, is prone to different attacks caused by the high computational power of quantum computing, highlighting the need for integrating quantum-resistant security measures. To accommodate attacks targeted at 5G networks, there are efforts to move towards TLS-based security, which is the widely accepted standard across networks. However, integrating post-quantum algorithms must also be considered in such a transition. Thus, this paper is the first to perform the integration of Post-quantum TLS (PQ-TLS) protocols into 5G networks and offer a realistic performance evaluation. Our approach focuses on integrating PQ-TLS into the 5G control plane (CP) without requiring a major overhaul, thus ensuring communications' interoperability even with legacy components of 5G, which may not support TLS. Specifically, we have updated the registration and authentication protocols for both core network functions and user equipment (UE) by implementing a TLS tunneling approach through virtualization. We then evaluate the performance and feasibility of PQ-TLS in enhancing the security of 5G communications on an actual testbed. Our results demonstrate that while PQ algorithms introduce some overhead, they remain viable for 5G applications, particularly for protocols that can run on the core network.

In this paper we demonstrate that it is possible to obtain considerable improvement of performance and energy aware metrics for training of deep neural networks using a modern parallel multi-GPU system, by enforcing selected, non-default power caps on the GPUs. We measure the power and energy consumption of the whole node using a professional, certified hardware power meter. For a high performance workstation with 8 GPUs, we were able to find non-default GPU power cap settings within the range of 160-200W to improve the difference between percentage energy gain and performance loss by over 15.0%, EDP (Abbreviations and terms used are described in main text.) by over 17.3%, EDS with k = 1.5 by over 2.2%, EDS with k = 2.0 by over 7.5% and pure energy by over 25%, compared to the default power cap setting of 260W per GPU. These findings demonstrate the potential of today's CPU+GPU systems for configuration improvement in the context of performance-energy consumption metrics.
