This paper presents a networking architecture that brings the principles of fog computing to the realm of vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs), by systematizing the use of one or more end-user clients or near-user edge devices to carry out tasks on behalf of others. The proposal is grounded on a virtualization layer and specific routing algorithms, adding new constructs and protocols to orchestrate the allocation of tasks and the sharing of resources. This proposal solves persistent problems of previous approaches to mobile augmentation in VANETs, which require the nodes offering their resources to stay close to the ones that would use them transiently. The advantages are proved by simulations of an application of collaborative mapping and navigation, in which the vehicles in a city share storage, computing and communication resources to distribute the tasks of (i) downloading, storing and sharing chunks of maps from a server, and (ii) computing routes to the intended destinations.

As cloud computing continues to evolve, computational power leasing has emerged as a novel web service model, providing users with access to computing resources or cloud computing capabilities. This enables users to offload their computational tasks to remote devices and retrieve results. However, with the exponential growth in data generation, cloud service providers are confronted with the critical challenge of differentiating malicious code within a vast array of computing tasks. To address this issue, this paper proposes a comprehensive lifecycle malicious code detection framework that integrates Runtime Application Self-Protection (RASP) with random forest technology, facilitating rapid and accurate identification of malicious code. Experimental results demonstrate that the intelligent detection process using random forest yields better performance compared to other machine learning algorithms. By training the intelligent detection model with features selected in this paper, a high accuracy rate of up to 95.10% is achieved on the collected G4 sample set. Additionally, the proposed framework achieves the highest accuracy rate among other schemes on the G1 sample set, reaching 98.07%. This research offers an effective security measure for computational power leasing providers in this domain.

Plasmonic devices are considered as a potential platform to realize highly integrated photonic circuits. Optical logic gates are fundamental computing and light-controlling elements in optical circuits and optical computing, and many plasmonic logic gates have been studied. However, these devices can only realize single or several specific logical operations. In this work, we propose a multiport plasmonic system to realize all- logical processing based on coding metamaterials (CMs) and inverse design. We utilize nondominated sorting genetic algorithm- ii to optimize the distributions of CMs. After optimization, the simulation results exhibit that all types of logic gates (AND, OR, NOT, NAND, NOR, XOR and XNOR) can be obtained with the operating wavelength of 1.31 mu m and a small footprint (0.8x1.1 mu m(2)). Moreover, the extinction ratio between logical "1" and "0" states exceeds 20 dB for OR, NOT, XNOR and XOR logic gates.

While the RNN is well studied in the traditional wired, disk-based client-server environment, it has not been tackled in a wireless broadcasting environment. The liner property of wireless broadcast media and power conserving requirement of mobile devices make the problem particularly interesting and challenging. In this paper, the issues involved with organizing location dependent data and answering RNN queries on air are investigated An efficient data organization, called Jump Rdnn-tree, and the corresponding search algorithms are proposed Performance of the proposed Jump Rdnn-tree and other traditional indexes (enhanced for wireless broadcast) is evaluated using both uniform and skew data. The results show that Jump Rdnn-tree substantially outperforms the traditional indexes.

Renewable energy sources, in particular wind energy, are being more and more integrated into the network of charging places for electric vehicles. As a result, there have been significant worries over the power systems' ability to operate dependably and satisfactorily. Integrating energy storage devices for electric vehicles is one of the suggestions made to increase the performance and dependability of these systems. The newest developments, advantages, size considerations, efficiency, cost, and recycling of battery energy storage systems are all covered in depth in this paper. The benefits and disadvantages of the various battery energy storage technologies are thoroughly analyzed, explained, and contrasted. When it comes to grid applications, the economic advantages of battery sizing using probabilistic and optimization techniques offer a potential solution during the strategy by taking into account a variety of factors affecting the sizing of the battery, such as the deprivation rate, reliability, and battery location. The comparative analysis are carried out in the optimization technique to predict the best efficiency in battery energy storage system. © 2023 IEEE.

Gesture-based Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) has become a primary means of device control due to its naturalness and humanized characteristics, making it applicable for tasks such as drone control and gaming. Gesture recognition using an inertial measurement unit (IMU) has emerged as a major trend in this field. However, due to the intricate nature of the arm structure and the diversity of gestures, relying on a single IMU system for gesture recognition results in limited accuracy. Modern mobile devices, such as smartphones and smartwatches, are equipped with IMUs that allow for convenient data acquisition methods and offer computing resources for deep learning model inference. In this paper, we propose a real-time arm gesture recognition method, called KylinArm, which achieves high-precision gesture recognition by coordinating 2 IMUs. The KylinArm method is optimized for mobile devices and based on a dual-branch 1D-CNN classifier. It supports the classification of 12 arm gestures with an optimized strategy for mobile devices that have limited computation resources and power supply. Additionally, we adopt an optimization method based on CORrelation ALignment (CORAL) to address the decreasing accuracy that occurs when new users are introduced. Finally, we evaluate KylinArm and test it in real scenes, achieving a recognition accuracy of over 98%.

Verifying equivalence between two quantum circuits is a hard problem, that is nonetheless crucial in compiling and optimizing quantum algorithms for real-world devices. This paper gives a Turing reduction of the (universal) quantum circuits equivalence problem to weighted model counting (WMC). Our starting point is a folklore theorem showing that equivalence checking of quantum circuits can be done in the so-called Pauli-basis. We combine this insight with a WMC encoding of quantum circuit simulation, which we extend with support for the Toffoli gate. Finally, we prove that the weights computed by the model counter indeed realize the reduction. With an open-source implementation, we demonstrate that this novel approach can outperform a state-of-the-art equivalence-checking tool based on ZX calculus and decision diagrams.

Safety-critical medical monitoring systems have always suffered from false alarms and misdetection issues, sensitivity to external perturbations and internal faults, which could be catastrophic for patients. We address the main challenges faced towards the resiliency of medical monitoring devices by introducing a novel reconfigurable hardware architecture that enables: (i) accurate detection of medical conditions by means of a fusion and decision support mechanism based on concurrent analysis of multiple physiological signals and computing a unified health index, (ii) dynamic system adaptation to patient-specific diagnostic needs, and (iii) availability of system despite the occurrence of accidental errors and unexpected failures. This paper presents an overview on the monitoring algorithms implemented in the architecture for analysis of multi-parameter patient data from a cardiac Intensive Care Unit (ICU). An evaluation framework is proposed for assessing the resiliency of the detection and fusion mechanisms to data artifacts and their effectiveness in masking false alarms. © 2012 IEEE.

The objective of this paper is to carry out a detailed analysis of the most popular Connected Component Labeling (CCL) algorithms for binary images. This study investigates their usability for processing streaming data and suitability for implementation using Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices. The first part of this paper reviews popular CCL algorithms. Both capability for real-time video processing as well as memory requirements are taken into consideration. The second part of the paper describes an efficient implementation of the single pass labeling algorithm using a Virtex-ii Pro FPGA. It is verified on the development board with an infrared camera module as a real-time video source. The system is capable of processing video stream with 640 × 480 pixels per frame at a speed of 30 fps limited by the bandwidth of the video source.
