Smart Environment aims to improve humans' quality of life. IoT is an emerging paradigm that makes the environment smart by using sensing technologies in IoT devices and cloud computing technology. various surveys portray that IoT devices are growing rapidly which results in more data which leads to more delay in response time for the services provided in the smart environment since the Cloud server imposes more transmission latency. This transmission latency is reduced by the emergence of Edge computing in which the services can be provided by using Edge as a computing device. However, the Edge is a resource-constrained device, so the proposed work aims to identify the process that can be processed at the Edge based on context and priority based scheduling. Therefore, an algorithm is designed to execute the process that needs immediate attention by applying context and priority-based scheduling. In a comparative analysis of algorithms, the experimental results showcase that the proposed algorithms notably reduce latency in IoT processes. © 2023 IEEE.

The rapid proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices has revolutionized many aspects of modern computing. Experience has shown that these devices often have severe security problems and are common targets for malware. One approach to ensure that only trusted software is executed on these devices is Remote Attestation (RA), which allows a verifier to attest the integrity of software running on such a prover device. As malware is typically not trusted, an infected device will fail to generate a valid signature, which allows the verifier to detect the presence of malware on the prover. To achieve its security guarantees, RA requires a trust anchor, often found in the form of dedicated hardware on the prover. For IoT and embedded devices such hardware has only recently become largely deployed. Current RA protocols rely on classical asymmetric signatures that are vulnerable to quantum attacks, which are expected to become feasible in the near future. In this work we present SPRAv, a software-based RA system that leverages the Physical Memory Protection (PMP) primitive of RISC-v to achieve its security guarantees and employs quantum-safe cryptographic algorithms to ensure resistance against quantum attacks in the future. Our evaluation shows that it is feasible to deploy this solution on RISC-v devices without incurring a prohibitive overhead or the need for additional hardware, paving the way towards quantum-resistant functionalities also in IoT.

This research paper explores the application, implementation, and assessment of health parameters in the elderly healthcare sector using Random Forest and Support vector Machine algorithms in Machine Learning. These algorithms increase the accuracy and predictive capabilities of health monitoring devices that analyze heart rate, fall risks, stress levels, and hypertension in the elderly in real time. The integration of IoT technology into the system ensures continuous and efficient monitoring with reliable communication and connectivity. The sensors are located to pick up essential health data, which provides the baseline for a deep analysis of health trends. This paper elaborates on how machine learning predicts and monitors health parameters in the elderly population. © 2024 IEEE.

Smart meters are electronic devices used to measure and record real-time energy consumption. In this research, we utilized energy consumption data gathered from residential consumers in London, England. Our aim is to leverage various machine learning algorithms to establish connections between historical energy consumption data, allowing us to create and assess short-term load forecasts with low Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE). This research benefits customers by enabling them to plan their energy usage effectively, resulting in reduced overall energy bills. Our findings indicate that, among the tested algorithms, Random Forest stands out as the optimal choice, delivering the lowest RMSE and MAPE. © 2024 IEEE.

The Internet of Things refers to actual objects or items that have been integrated with sensors, algorithms, and a few other technologies to exchange information with other devices and networks online (IoT). As IOT devices are publicly available to everyone on the network, it is required to be conscious of security risks and dangers posed by cyberattacks;as a result, it should be guarded. Plain information is changed to encrypted information in cryptography before being delivered, and it is then converted back to plain text after receiving a response from the recipient. Steganography is the practice of encoding hidden information into an audio, video, picture, or text file. In this project, it is suggested that IoT network data be encrypted using cryptography, and that the encrypted message be concealed somewhere in a digital image through steganography. It is also suggested to enhance the number of bits that can be stored within a single picture pixel. © 2024, CRC Press/Balkema. All rights reserved.

RISC-v cores have gained a lot of popularity over the last few years. However, being quite a recent and novel technology, there is still a gap in the availability of comprehensive simulation frameworks for RISC-v that cover both the functional and extra-functional aspects. This gap hinders progress in the field, as fast yet accurate system-level simulation is crucial for Design Space Exploration (DSE). This work presents an open-source framework designed to tackle this challenge, integrating functional RISC-v simulation (achieved with GvSoC) with SystemC-AMS (used to model extra-functional aspects, in detail power storage and distribution). The combination of GvSoC and SystemC-AMS in a single simulation framework allows to perform a DSE that is dependent on the mutual impact between functional and extra-functional aspects. In our experiments, we validate the framework's effectiveness by creating a virtual prototype of a compact, battery-powered embedded system.

The constant need to miniaturize technological devices has increased the development of novel optical devices in the nanoscale. A common kind of photonic devices are built using Metal-Insulator-Metal (MIM) interfaces to generate Surface Plasmons Polaritons (SPPs) and process light waves in the optical window. In this paper a 12 channel demultiplexer is proposed using 8 cavities coupled to both sides of the main waveguide. Then the nano demultiplexer is modelled in COMSOL Multiphysics using Drude model and Johnson and Christy parameters for the optical constants. Then we compare the transmission spectrum from 400 to 2200 nm for both models and discuss the differences advantages of each method. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

To improve agricultural production prediction in the context of precision agriculture, this research investigates the combination of machine learning algorithms with IoT technologies. Using cutting-edge technology, precision agriculture provides creative ways to meet the rising need for food production to feed a growing global population. IoT devices, such as sensors and drones, gather large volumes of data on crop health, temperature, humidity, and soil moisture. Accurate crop production projections are produced by processing this data using machine learning techniques. These algorithms can find patterns and connections in historical and current data, which helps farmers make well-informed choices about pest control, fertilization, and irrigation. The uses of machine learning methods, including neural networks, decision trees, and regression models, in agricultural production prediction are covered in this research. The potential for revolutionizing agricultural methods via the combination of IoT and machine learning is enormous, as it might enhance sustainability, efficiency, and crop yields to satisfy the needs of an expanding population.

Over the past few decades, processor performance has scaled accordingly to Moore's Law, but there remains an architectural limit known as the von-Neumann bottleneck. The need to transfer massive amounts of data between processor and memory has resulted in an intrinsic limit of bandwidth and reach, thus resulting in increased interconnect power consumption. As a major step towards breaking this bottleneck, especially for photonic neuromorphic computing, we have leveraged our heterogeneous III-v/Si optical interconnect platform to demonstrate non-volatile III-v/Si photonics based on resistive random access memory (ReRAM) or known as memristors [1], [2].
