Mobile robots have become more and more common in public space. This increases the importance of meeting safety requirements of autonomous robots. Simple mechanisms, such as emergency breaking, alone do not suffice in these highly dynamic situations. A more sophisticated situational assessment and planning is needed as part of the high-level process control. This paper presents the concept of a safety-critical Robot control Architecture for mobile robots based on a Hierarchical Finite State Machine. It expands already existing architectures by putting the focus on concurrency, interruptibility and code reusability to allow for straightforward implementation of safety mechanisms such as internal diagnostics systems. In doing so, this concept presents the template of a new type of state machine implementation. It is is demonstrated with the application of a delivery robot in the scope of a German research project. © 2022 IEEE.

It's well-known that the primary costs and losses in petroleum refining come from sudden failures of equipment. A distributed control system (DCS) supplies comprehensive information on the process and operation modes of the equipment. However, its health during operation escapes the attention of operators who continuously change process modes while controlling the process plant. For sustainable and reliable operation, it's necessary to provide operators with timely, unbiased information on how the operation mode affects the equipment's health before a failure when early diagnostics of defects allow people to eliminate future issues at its emergent stage. To answer what benefits digital reliability could bring for a petroleum refinery, let's consider a difference between reliability and digital reliability, what diagnostics and early diagnostics mean, what the differences between protection, condition monitoring, and diagnostic system are, and, finally, how 24/7 real-time diagnostics adds value to every processing facility. © CM *** right reserved.

New high technologies are not created by national universities or research and production systems, but by the individual citizens of our country, they are the yesterday's graduates of the technical universities, whose qualities in the specialized technical learning is currently not reaching the highest level. Today, an average technical university graduate (bachelor, master or specialist), unfortunately, possesses no competence, practical skills, scientific erudition, or desire required to generate a new breakthrough technology. Such a person, in principle, is not able of working in the multitask mode, high tension and intensity environment. First of all, this is determined by the reduced adaption capabilities caused by the extremely insufficient physical activity since school. To influence the situation, the Bauman Moscow State Technical University developed a Multi-level Automated Information System for diagnostics of the human adaptation capabilities, i.e. the ***, which efficiency is proved by a series of diverse fundamental and clinical studies in analyzing the human health problems.

Fatigue mechanisms proceeding through the formation and growing of cracks are well-known but the progress is not easy to detect with measurements during the operation. The localised structural damage is caused by repeated loading and unloading when the load exceeded certain thresholds. The effect of the loading is highly nonlinear and structures fracture suddenly when a crack reaches a critical size. This research focuses on the advanced data analysis aimed at detecting effective stress impacts by using generalised norms and intelligent stress indices based on nonlinear scaling to provide good severity indicators. Digital twin type solutions can help in detecting changes in fatigue risk analysis. Contributions of the stress are calculated in each sample time, which is taken as a fraction of the cycle time. The Wöhler curve is represented by a linguistic equation (LE) model where the stress part is represented by the intelligent stress indices. The cumulative sum of the contributions indicates the deterioration of the condition, and the simulated sums can be used to predict failure time. Scheduling the maintenance actions can be extended to avoiding risky stress levels. The generalised statistical process control (GSPC) is a feasible solution to demonstrating in real time these risky levels during the operation. The analysis is adapted to changing operating conditions by updating recursively the parameters of the scaling functions. Algorithms of the model and digital twin remain unchanged. In a rolling mill, torque measurements are collected and analysed with a combination of two norms scaled with the nonlinear scaling approach. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

The welding technology is the core step of manufacturing process for the underground engineering equipment, which determines the quality of key components. However, the parameters that affect the welding quality are diverse, and there are correlations between them. It brings great difficulties to the unified debugging of the parameters, and further affect the quality of the welded parts. In this paper, a knowledge-driven method for the extraction and decision of key welding parameters is proposed. 4 key welding parameters that have a greater impact on welding quality are extracted, and 2 basic welding parameters which can determine other parameters are obtained according to the correlation analysis. Based on the principle of stable point, a piecewise model using welding current to determine wire feeding speed is established. Regarding the zonal distribution of welding voltage data, an interval fitting method combining point prediction and interval prediction is proposed. Two types of interval prediction models (fitting centerline translation method and machine learning method) are studied, and by comparing the prediction accuracy of the models, the optimal interval prediction model based on E L M is determined. Based on the decision method in this paper, the welding current and welding speed are used to control the welding process and they can determine more than 85% of the welding quality. It improves the accuracy and efficiency of decision and is of great significance to welding automation. © 2021 IEEE.

Machine learning has the potential for transforming the workplace across various industries. It can streamline repetitive tasks, improve decisionmaking, enhance safety, and increase operational efficiency. Rather than relying on static images from multiple angles to train object detection models, using video footage can simplify the process and reduce the need for large image datasets. Amazon Rekognition, a service from Amazon Web Services (AWS), leverages deep learning algorithms to analyze both images and videos. Its features include facial recognition, object detection and tracking, text recognition, and content moderation. In this project, AWS Rekognition is utilized to assess control valves and detect pipeline leaks. It also distinguishes between different types of control valves, such as normally open, normally closed, and those with positioners. This approach illustrates the effectiveness of video-based learning for object detection and the utility of cloud-based AI services in industrial diagnostics and monitoring.

Prescriptive approaches for the cybersecurity of digital nuclear instrumentation and control (I&C) systems can be cumbersome and costly. These considerations are of particular concern for advanced reactors that implement digital technologies for monitoring, diagnostics, and control. A risk-informed performance-based approach is needed to enable the efficient design of secure digital I&C systems for nuclear power plants. This paper presents a tiered cybersecurity analysis (TCA) methodology as a graded approach for cybersecurity design. The TCA is a sequence of analyses that align with the plant, system, and component stages of design. Earlier application of the TCA in the design process provides greater opportunity for an efficient graded approach and defense-in-depth. The TCA consists of three tiers. Tier 1 is design and impact analysis. In Tier 1 it is assumed that the adversary has control over all digital systems, components, and networks in the plant, and that the adversary is only constrained by the physical limitations of the plant design. The plant's safety design features are examined to determine whether the consequences of an attack by this cyber-enabled adversary are eliminated or mitigated. Accident sequences that are not eliminated or mitigated by security by design features are examined in Tier 2 analysis. In Tier 2, adversary access pathways are identified for the unmitigated accident sequences, and passive measures are implemented to deny system and network access to those pathways wherever feasible. Any systems with remaining susceptible access pathways are then examined in Tier 3. In Tier 3, active defensive cybersecurity architecture features and cybersecurity plan controls are applied to deny the adversary the ability to conduct the tasks needed to cause a severe consequence. Tier 3 is not performed in this analysis because of the design maturity required for this tier of analysis. © 2023 by JSME.
