Conclusions about the technical condition of automation equipment are made based on the results of measuring and monitoring a number of parameters that determine the performance of automation equipment and the system as a whole. Monitoring includes performance monitoring, diagnostics and other types of monitoring. Performance monitoring is carried out regularly when preparing automation equipment and entire systems for use (start-up), during maintenance and repair, as well as during storage. The main task is to determine the technical condition of the entire automation system. During the verification process, settings and adjustments are made. Diagnostic testing of automation or automation systems is carried out in order to identify malfunctions and determine their causes. One of the most important tasks of diagnostic control is the selection of a fault finding strategy (program) in such a way as to minimize the time required to detect faulty elements. Troubleshooting programs vary depending on the method used. The most common are item sequential testing, sequential group testing, and combination testing. Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in a medium containing inorganic nutrients or a nutrient solution, without the use of soil. Hydroponic controller control system design enables automation through remote monitoring and control using various microcontrollers, sensors and networking technologies using the Internet to transmit and receive information from objects and devices. Such systems receive input data from sensors and provide control actions to maintain various parameters within specified ranges. These systems are very economical, and most importantly, they are fully automated and do not require human intervention after placing sprouted plants in the system. On-line identification of the manufacturing process based on process data is a crucial step for model-based control and diagnostics. A typical discrete manufacturing process generates multirate data streams. Whereas various sensors provide in-process information about the process, many important process outcomes such as product qualities are usually measured via postprocess inspection. This paper proposes a method for studying the identifiability of model parameters of the manufacturing process using both in-process and postprocess data. The identification of the model parameters based on multirate output is formulated using the maximum-likelihood method. The Fisher information matrix for a multirate-sampled discrete manufacturing system is derived to study identifiability of model parameters. A method to calculate the sensitivity matrices in the Fisher information matrix is also proposed. A case study is conducted using a model of metal removal in the cylindrical grinding process to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method for assessing the identifiability. It is observed using both sensor signal and postprocess output for identification effectively improves the identifiability.

This paper develops a business process to maintain a clean Smart Grid data. Such data involves Geographic Infor-mation System (GIS) network data and Supervisory control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) time-series data. For accurate distri-bution transformer optimization, GIS data gap must be managed. Updating and diagnostics of such data must be optimized due to limited metering devices. This paper develop portable tools and design data ecosystem separate from Smart Grid environment for efficient and non-disruptive GIS diagnostics. It takes 33 minutes to build from scratch a fresh network model with customer loads from GIS, Customer and SCADA data. Compared to 42 hours of Smart Grid network model promotion, 98.7% reduction of time in new data build-up for updated diagnostics. Reportorial submission to energy regulatory, efficient system operations, and effective planning relies on GIS accuracy and realtime SCADA availability.

The Italian road and rail networks are characterised by the widespread presence of artworks, such as bridges, tunnels and viaducts, built in different historical periods. Among these, masonry arch bridges are very common and still play a functional role since they are part of roads still in use. Historic masonry bridges have been modified over the centuries due to changing needs of transport, often through specific adjustments such as widening the carriageway or resurfacing pavement road with modern materials and, in some cases, reinforcing the structures. These historic structures, although adequate, respond to different stresses, mainly related to the increase in load compared to the time of their design and construction. For this reason, it is necessary to implement actions aimed at the maintenance and safety of these structures through constant monitoring of the state of health, not only with the sensors but also with visual inspections repeated over time. In order to facilitate the analysis operations and to link the different expertise involved in the multidisciplinary knowledge process, it is important to define operational procedures and tools that are able to manage the vast historical infrastructural heritage of our territory. A virtual system, integrating digital tools and online repositories, has been set up to promote visual inspection operations for assessing the current state of the artefacts and ensuring data management by making it accessible to professionals and stakeholders involved in the intervention planning for maintenance and conservation. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Effective control over any process is impossible without complete, reliable and timely information about the technological item condition. Such information is obtained via the automated process control system measuring channels. They include a primary transducer, a normalizing transducer, a communication link, an analog-to-digital converter, and a computational processor. Failures inevitably occur in the operation of any equipment. When a measuring channel fails, the control system obtains false information. A complete failure occurs when one of the measuring channel components fails. In case of a partial (metrological) failure, the measuring channel remains operational, but the measurement error exceeds the permissible value. The complete failure is diagnosed using the integrated diagnostics systems for instrumentation and a controller. Herewith, the integrated diagnostics systems cannot detect a partial failure, therefore, the partial failure diagnostics system should be created. It should not depend on the instrument types used. The paper considers the stages of building the crude oil distillation process regression model based on statistical data. The resulting model is the basis for the DCS partial measuring channel failures diagnostics system developed. © 2020 IEEE.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are potential biomarkers due to their important roles in intercellular communication. Current size exclusion chromatography (SEC) used in EVs isolation requires sophisticated chromatography systems for process monitoring which is difficult to deploy in point-of-care application. Herein, we report a low-cost microfluidic SEC device (µSEC) for integrated EVs isolation and monitoring using commercial off-the-shelf UV glue. Its modified T-junction injector with tunable resistance enables nanoliter sample injection (600 nL) within 1.5 s. Its built-in tubing connectors also allow flexible coupling with upstream/downstream modules to develop a real time process monitoring platform for EVs manufacturing or EVs-based clinical diagnostics. © 2021 MicroTAS 2021 - 25th International conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life Sciences. Reasons for issues caused by latency spikes are described. Method of self-diagnostics of Internet Protocol (IP) audio codec software that is suitable for development, quality control, and operation and allows detecting these issues without external equipment and a special signal is demonstrated. The method of manual signal quality testing is mentioned. Based on that a method of automated testing using a second IP audio codec with specially modified software that allows detecting signal distortion in realistic network conditions is described. These methods simplify software quality control and accelerate the development of new versions of software, allowing detection of issues that are hard to detect with other methods.

Photonics-based sensing in the mid-IR has been proven to be the key technology for in a plethora of applications ranging from environmental monitoring to industrial process control, medical diagnostics, water quality, medical and more. Compared to other sensing approaches, mid-IR spectroscopy-based sensing enables fast, reliable, and consumables-free operation for the detection of trace amounts to high concentration of the targeted analytes. The interest in the technology has been significantly increased due to the maturing of the Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs). QCLs offer an up to 2-orders of magnitude enhancement in the signal-to-noise ratio while enabling the direct access to the characteristic molecular fingerprint region of the targeted analytes. The Horizon Europe project M3NIR develops a modular sensing platform for the mid-IR, to significantly boost the technology in terms of performance (low limit of detection, multiple-species detection), footprint (co-integrating of lasers and components) reduction of energy consumption and cost. M3NIR will demonstrate its novel approaches for the monitoring of GHG and ships emission, detection of phosphates and nitrates in water and the breath analysis for health and well-being related applications.

The article gives the basic concepts of reliability, performance, durability, considers the issues of changing the technical state of the machine during operation. The models under consideration have the ability to introduce various perturbations in order to simulate physical defects, and numerical simulation on a computer made it possible to obtain solutions in the form of temporary realizations of oscillations for different states of the simulation object. The cooperative use of the full-scale method and mathematical modeling made it possible to reduce the volume of full-scale experiments and apply statistical methods of analysis in the problem of classifying the technical condition by constructing mathematical models of the probability of failure and uptime during their operating time. The content of the main types of machine states is revealed, considerable attention is paid to the issues of identifying and influencing failures and the causes of failures in the machine, the reasons for the loss of performance during operation.
