The article describes the development of a universal power supply and an in-situ impedance spectroscopy unit for plasma electrolysis research. Schematic solutions are based on the analysis of current-voltage and frequency response characteristics of the plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process. The power supply has a modular structure, remote PC control and high power factor. Its flexible internal structure allows studies of the plasma electrolysis in DC, bipolar and unipolar modes with broad variation in the pulse frequency, magnitude and duty cycles. The software part of the equipment allows the power supply control, registration of instantaneous values of current and voltage from the sensors, and necessary mathematical calculations. The in-situ impedance spectroscopy unit is operated in a step-sweep frequency mode, and it helps in diagnostics of the equivalent circuit of the PEO process. The calibration results of the power supply and the impedance spectroscopy unit show the recommended frequency range for equipment application from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The equipment was tested during PEO of titanium and zirconium alloys, and it showed the effectiveness of the proposed research methodology. © 2020 IEEE.

A Lean Premixed injection system (LP) was experimentally investigated at elevated pressure and air inlet temperature, corresponding to engine conditions, i.e. with high swirl number and elevated fresh gases velocities. OH-PLIF, NO-PLIF and kerosene-PLIF laser diagnostics were used to study the flame structure and the NO formation within the primary zone. These experimental studies were complemented with PIV measurements. The acquired data allows the evaluation of the coupling of aerodynamics with the flame structure. Starting from there, the combustion process governing the formation of NO pollutant into the flame was analyzed with high spatial resolution. The Zeldovich pathway has been found to control the NO formation in the inner recirculation zone while the nitrous oxide pathway is found to be important especially in the regions in which the residence time of burnt gases is small. Effect of pressure and FAR also produced significant changes in the NO production. It does appear, however that no universal behavior can be found for the pressure dependence of NO.

Fixed storage tanks at atmospheric pressure or under pressure are built for bulk liquid storage and may be used for the measurement of volume or mass of liquid contained. When used for that measurement, they shall comply with the requirements described in international legal norms, developed by the International Organization of Legal Metrology (IOLM). There are different approaches and methods used for the conformity assessment of tanks, covering all or part of the operations for initial verification as well as subsequent verification or recalibration in service of the tanks. In this paper, conclusions will be shown based on the understanding of the definition of storage tanks for petroleum products, the needs of the gauging process of tanks, selections, and comparations of officially recognized methods, as well as relevant researches with respect to improving and advancing of traditional methods. The main categorization implies the geometrical and volumetric operations, a combination of these two, or some other more appropriate method. The aim of this paper is to select, compare and analyze existing approaches, as well as give recommendations to improve general aspects of tank control using the new and advanced methods based on the capabilities of automated and sophisticated tools. © Global Trends in Testing, diagnostics and Inspection for *** rights reserved.

AI-enabled mechanisms are deployed to guard controlled systems against sensor anomalies. We explore a two-level architecture design in which a low-level feedback controller of a linear system uses measurements from one or more potentially unreliable sensors. These observations are prone both to sensor noise but unknown additive faults. Our proposed, high-level, guard mechanism consists of a Reinforcement Learning (RL) agent that monitors available vitals of the system. In the event of a fault on the sensor components, the RL agent automatically detects, estimates the fault, localizes and takes action to cancel the fault. In addition, we develop design methodologies for efficient training of the RL agent that take advantage of system dynamics and sensor fusion schemes. We show that the associated training cost functions can be designed so that their optimal policy achieves efficient of arbitrary constant or piece-wise constant sensor faults. To illustrate our theoretical results, we consider a linearized version of a chemical process with multiple sensors, controlled by a Linear Quadratic Gaussian (LQG) Servo-controller with Integral Action. Our simulations show that the RL-agent is successful in localizing the faulty sensors and mitigating the effects of faults in an online fashion.

The direct calculation of the absorption coefficient spectra of various tissues from spectral measurements allowed to retrieve the contents of melanin and lipofuscin. In the rabbit brain cortex, 1.8 times higher melanin content is explained by the neuron degeneration process. Similar melanin and lipofuscin contents were found in the rabbit pancreas as a result of the tissue aging process. The conversion of 83 % of the melanin in the human normal kidney into lipofuscin in the cancer kidney indicates that lipofuscin can be considered a kidney cancer marker in humans.

The aim of the article is to develop a new digital method for diagnosing electrical machines using the energy spectrum of electrical signals based on parametric discrete Fourier transform. It is shown that the development of new and improvement of existing methods for diagnosing electric machines is an important and urgent task of increasing the efficiency of operation and the reliability of the operation of equipment in various industries. The classification of methods of functional diagnostics by the actual state into the following groups is given: methods for analyzing a vibroacoustic signal, magnetic flux, secondary electromagnetic fields, temperature fields, electrical parameters of electrical machines during their operation. It is shown that the most promising group of methods for the functional diagnosis of electrical machines at nuclear power plants are methods for analyzing the electrical parameters of electrical machines during their operation. The physical basis and advantages of this group of methods for the functional diagnosis of electrical machines are given. It is shown that the digital technology implementation, the launch of the digitalization process for diagnosing objects, the transition in the diagnosis of objects from analog signal processing (ASP) to digital signal processing (DSP) methods has led to a number of theoretical and practical problems. The paper considers discrete Fourier transform (DFT) (algebraic form), generalization of DFT in the form of parametric DFT (DFT-P) (matrix form), and the analytic properties of their bases. Methods for the fast calculation of DFT and DFT-P are given. The question of choosing a strategy for digital spectral analysis of mixed signals is considered from the point of view of determining the parameters of the harmonic components of the signals of a functioning electric machine, since these parameters are really informative. The results of evaluating the probability-time characteristics of the process of functioning of the control system (CS) of the clock synchronization network (CSN) are presented. The proposed models reflect all the main States of the CS CSN functioning process. The results obtained will allow us to evaluate the performance indicators of a real CS CSN based on the statistics of its functioning, and to make a conclusion about the quality of decisions made. The resulting models are universal, differ in the completeness of state accounting, and can be applied to the CS of any CSN network, regardless of the scale and complexity. © 2020 IEEE.
