Diamond coatings on hard alloy tools produced by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) from methanehydrogen mixtures greatly enhance the functional properties such as wear resistance and quality of the material processing. By varying the gas composition during the diamond film growth it is possible to cyclically change the film structure between microcrystalline diamond (MCD) and nanocrystalline diamond (NCD) to produce MCD/NCD multilayers that improves the mechanical properties of the film and reduces its stress and roughness. As the diamond growth occurs with participation of radicals generated in the plasma thermo-chemical reactions it is important to control in situ the presence of those species and gas temperature Tg. Here we used optical emission spectroscopy (OES) to monitor atomic hydrogen, CN, CH and C-2 dimer radicals in course of deposition of MCD/NCD coatings by microwave plasma CVD in CH4-H-2 and CH4-N-2-H-2 mixtures. The gas temperature has been calculated from analysis of rotational components of structure of C-2(Delta v = 0) emission line. We found that addition of nitrogen (4%) in CH4H2 plasma, which is needed to form NCD, significantly, by about 500 K reduces T-g (from T-g = 3910 K to T-g = 3330 K). We developed an algorithm tolerable to small shifts of the measured spectral lines which provided fast calculation of T-g, so that the spectrum record and the automatic processing of fine structure of C-2(Delta v = 0) line totally take the time of about 5 min. The Covid-19 pandemic is an unprecedented condition to the global economy including the oil & gas industry. The ability to adapt to the imposed changes, requires creativity, innovation, digitalization of processes, and resilience. This work will show a novel integrated approach around four pillars which had improved operation efficiency and brought monetary value during a challenging 2020 in Shushufindi field, Ecuador. The first pillar is new technology adoption. This aims to extend run life of critical equipment resulting in a higher well productive time. Examples of adopted technology: Chrome-enrich tubulars, downhole microcaps chemical deployment, de-sander and multiphase/extended gas handler. The second pillar is the P3 process (Pre-Pulling-Post) to quickly and effectively find the root cause of well failure that leads to definite remedial action. Digital enabler is the third pillar, its value come from reducing operational downtime and risk by using real-time surveillance capability, remote control, and data intelligence. The final pillar is to re-establish an effective communication with all stakeholders. Various dashboards have been developed in order to provide the big picture of actual field condition in quickly manner as well as implementation of ESP real time surveillance & diagnostics, real time multiphase production test, and chemical treatment automation. Workshops, online technical, and service quality meetings are regularly conducted to ensure that recommendations and opportunities can be executed properly including contractual negotiations to enable new technology implementation. Despite all the restrictions during covid-19 pandemic and some force majeures in 2020, this integrated and digitalized approach has resulted an outstanding outcome: Well failure index reduced from 0.62 in 2019 to 0.41 in 2020;Production deferment related to well failure declined significantly from 2,420 bopd in 2019 to 1,259 bopd in 2020, which translate in savings of $16.8

Partial discharges (PD) diagnostics are considered as reliable techniques for the insulation health assessment of various electrical components of the power system. Generally, PD diagnostic tests are performed in laboratory by ignoring the effect of harmonic pollution in test voltage waveform. However, the operation of electric motors (EMs) fed by variable frequency drives (VFD) produces harmonic distortion in the sinusoidal test voltage waveform. During low speed operation of VFD, the influence of harmonic distortion in test voltage waveform is increased. The additional distortion parameters in the test voltage waveform can significantly increase the PD activity in the EM insulation. Therefore, for correct understanding of PD data, it is essential to consider the actual harmonic spectrum of the test voltage waveform during online PD measurement. This paper presents a methodology for the quantification of the probability of PD in VFD-fed EMs under different concentration of voltage harmonics. For the experimental work, PD diagnostic tests have been performed under variable operating conditions of eight EMs and PD severity is investigated by calculating the PD characteristic parameters at different harmonic distortion levels. Also, the probability density functions and cumulative distribution functions for several probability distributions were evaluated to statistically process the PD data at different harmonic levels. Finally, the distribution fitting tools have been implemented to find an appropriate distribution that can precisely characterize the probability of PD under different concentration of voltage harmonics. The proposed method may be utilized for studying the effect of harmonic distortion on PD activity and estimating the lifetime of stator insulation in EMs.

Sjogren's Syndrome is a systemic disease. Its diagnosis can be supported by histopathological examination of minor salivary glands. The value of the focus score equal or greater than one ensures the diagnosis of this disease. Human estimation is inherently subjective, which often leads to diverging results during the process of diagnosis. The paper proposes to use U-net CNN to find area of inflammation in WSI to support pathologist in the process of diagnosis by selecting foci for detailed inspection. Proposed neural network was trained based on tiles of size 256x256 pixels in magnification 400x from 13 digital slides stained with hematoxylin and eosin from patients with labial minor salivary gland biopsies. The ground truth was established by manual annotations done by a pathology resident. The accuracy and recall of proposed neural network model on testing dataset show the potential of machine learning for classification problem solving in this field.

The local plastic deformation of a sheet, using a unique tool by different controlled path strategies with the absence of punch and die is called Single Point Incremental Forming (SPIF). It is an environmental friendly sheet forming process compared to stamping, where the manufacturing and disposal of dies are creating a huge environmental footprint. In SPIF, the forming tools are mainly kind of a metal spike with a spherical or flat end on top of it, where the diameter of the tool tip is 10 mm in average. In this study, the effects of different parameters of SPIF on the hardness of aluminium alloy sheet 1100 have been carried out experimentally and studied. The analysis of the test results has shown that hardness remarkably increases by increasing the tool speed. Furthermore, the increase in the feed rate leads to an increase in hardness. Besides, the use of various greases with not-environmental coolant oil effects presented that hardness increases using coolant oil and decreases using grease when applying the same feeds. © Global Trends in Testing, diagnostics and Inspection for *** rights reserved.

Surveillance testing is a key strategy to control the spread of COVID-19. Unlike the gold standard testing method, quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), CRISPR diagnostics have recently become a more appealing alternative as they are proven to be faster, simpler, and more affordable. However, the current CRISPR diagnostic readouts are typically non-quantitative, making them error-prone and lacking crucial information of viral load. To further improve the CRISPR diagnostic method, we have developed a custom computer vision algorithm that works in complement to common transilluminators to process fluorescence images of the diagnostic samples, quantify their fluorescence signals, and assign the test results. Our analysis showed that the quantified fluorescence intensity was directly correlated to the sample viral load, useful information for transmissibility and disease severity. Verified through laboratory and clinical samples, our algorithm accurately discriminated the samples with the viral RNA as low as 6.25 copies/uL, and correctly classified nasopharyngeal swab (NP swab) samples with 100% accuracy. Our work serves as a potential technique to improve the accuracy of CRISPR diagnostics of COVID-19 and promote rapid testing vital to the containment of the ongoing pandemic.

The article presents the results of a study of the method of electronic indication of engines and a device for its implementation, based on measuring the stresses acting in the connection elements of body parts (studs, bolts) connecting the cylinder covers (cylinder head) and the engine block. A method of processing indicator diagrams of internal combustion piston engines has been developed. Using the technique allows you to get comprehensive information on the indicator diagram, which consists of 30 defined parameters that allow you to assess the quality of the flow of work processes, the technical condition of the engine, fuel equipment, etc. The method of processing indicator diagrams, in contrast to the known ones, is supplemented by the definition of a number of indicators, which are proposed to be used as diagnostic parameters for modern piston engines. A technique for diagnosing internal combustion piston engines based on the results of their electronic indication, in which the influence of various malfunctions on the nature of indicator diagrams of modern automobile engines is determined and diagnostic matrices are proposed that make it possible to determine 15 main malfunctions for spark ignition engines and 12 malfunctions for diesel engines. Experimental installations for indirect display of internal combustion engines were created and experimental studies were carried out. The comparison of indicator diagrams obtained by the methods of direct and indirect mapping allows us to make a conclusion about the high degree of convergence of these data (discrepancies in most parameters determined by indicator diagrams amount to no more than 5.0%), which proves the possibility of using the proposed method of indirect mapping in practice.

Technical operation of dredgers and ship unloaders is aimed at organizing and managing the process of maintaining equipment in working condition. Improving the efficiency of maintenance is performed by changing the work organization principle in favor of preventive maintenance according to the actual condition of equipment. This change is based on upgrading the system of diagnostic of components and mechanisms. To diagnose the condition of equipment, they implement a strategy of permanent monitoring of the actual state of components and mechanisms throughout the entire operational lifetime of equipment. The article describes the method and the order of activities that provide early warning of potential failures or emergencies of work equipment. The proposed approach significantly extenuates disadvantages of traditional maintenance methods, increasing the efficiency, reducing the costs of crashes and unplanned downtime, providing in real time non-destructive control over the state of the equipment without stopping the machines. The implementation of the method increases the productivity of service personnel and provides optimization of production asset management.
