Surveillance testing is a key strategy to control the spread of COVID-19. Unlike the gold standard testing method, quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR), CRISPR diagnostics have recently become a more appealing alternative as they are proven to be faster, simpler, and more affordable. However, the current CRISPR diagnostic readouts are typically non-quantitative, making them error-prone and lacking crucial information of viral load. To further improve the CRISPR diagnostic method, we have developed a custom computer vision algorithm that works in complement to common transilluminators to process fluorescence images of the diagnostic samples, quantify their fluorescence signals, and assign the test results. Our analysis showed that the quantified fluorescence intensity was directly correlated to the sample viral load, useful information for transmissibility and disease severity. Verified through laboratory and clinical samples, our algorithm accurately discriminated the samples with the viral RNA as low as 6.25 copies/uL, and correctly classified nasopharyngeal swab (NP swab) samples with 100% accuracy. Our work serves as a potential technique to improve the accuracy of CRISPR diagnostics of COVID-19 and promote rapid testing vital to the containment of the ongoing pandemic.

International e-learning resource in the field of food product quality and veterinary disease control based on Government requirements of the European Union and Eurasian Economic Union has been created and tested. This resource consists of the one general professional cycle and five professional modules, about 60% of them are in distance e-learning format. The modularity of the educational resource allows the employer or students to choose a training program format, as well as the amount of distance learning or classroom training hours for different groups of specialists in the field of food quality and veterinary control: chiefs of quality control center or laboratories, veterinarians, microbiologists, specialists of veterinary diagnostics laboratories, chemical engineers. The involvement of participants from EU and EEU-countries in the educational process is important for the development of interregional and international activities, the creation of the unified legal framework in the field of food security in many countries. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

The article presents the results of a study of the method of electronic indication of engines and a device for its implementation, based on measuring the stresses acting in the connection elements of body parts (studs, bolts) connecting the cylinder covers (cylinder head) and the engine block. A method of processing indicator diagrams of internal combustion piston engines has been developed. Using the technique allows you to get comprehensive information on the indicator diagram, which consists of 30 defined parameters that allow you to assess the quality of the flow of work processes, the technical condition of the engine, fuel equipment, etc. The method of processing indicator diagrams, in contrast to the known ones, is supplemented by the definition of a number of indicators, which are proposed to be used as diagnostic parameters for modern piston engines. A technique for diagnosing internal combustion piston engines based on the results of their electronic indication, in which the influence of various malfunctions on the nature of indicator diagrams of modern automobile engines is determined and diagnostic matrices are proposed that make it possible to determine 15 main malfunctions for spark ignition engines and 12 malfunctions for diesel engines. Experimental installations for indirect display of internal combustion engines were created and experimental studies were carried out. The comparison of indicator diagrams obtained by the methods of direct and indirect mapping allows us to make a conclusion about the high degree of convergence of these data (discrepancies in most parameters determined by indicator diagrams amount to no more than 5.0%), which proves the possibility of using the proposed method of indirect mapping in practice.

Technical operation of dredgers and ship unloaders is aimed at organizing and managing the process of maintaining equipment in working condition. Improving the efficiency of maintenance is performed by changing the work organization principle in favor of preventive maintenance according to the actual condition of equipment. This change is based on upgrading the system of diagnostic of components and mechanisms. To diagnose the condition of equipment, they implement a strategy of permanent monitoring of the actual state of components and mechanisms throughout the entire operational lifetime of equipment. The article describes the method and the order of activities that provide early warning of potential failures or emergencies of work equipment. The proposed approach significantly extenuates disadvantages of traditional maintenance methods, increasing the efficiency, reducing the costs of crashes and unplanned downtime, providing in real time non-destructive control over the state of the equipment without stopping the machines. The implementation of the method increases the productivity of service personnel and provides optimization of production asset management.

Schistosomiasis is a treatable and preventable neglected tropical disease of Public Health importance affecting over 200 million people worldwide while Nigeria is one of the high burden countries. Currently, available diagnostic tests are cumbersome, low in sensitivity and not field-adaptable given the high skills required that are not available in the rural settings where the diseases are majorly prevalent. There is an urgent need for an easy to use automated diagnostic device to replace the current gold standard, the human-operated microscope. Many promising automated diagnostic technologies are under development. However, a good understanding of the real needs within the local healthcare context is crucial in order to develop and implement a new health diagnostic device. Too often, there is a mismatch between what is needed and what is developed. A target product profile can guide the R&D process in matching with the needs in the local healthcare context. The goal of this project is to combine gaps in the healthcare system and needs from stakeholders with technological possibilities in order to develop a target product profile for a diagnostic device for S. haematobium for specific healthcare scenarios in Nigeria.

The analysis of the blood filling process is necessary to study the physiological characteristics of the blood circulation of the eye in normal and pathological conditions. In this paper, we studied the possibility of constructing a photoplethysmographic (PPG) diagnostic channel for assessing the hemodynamic characteristics of an eye and an eyelid. The main objective of this paper is to study the possibility of using PPG together with other diagnostic channels, as well as the study of motion artefacts when the PPG sensor is installed on the upper eyelid. The research group consisted of 6 volunteers without ophthalmologic disease. The red and infrared emission ranges for the PPG sensor were selected. Registration of PPG signals consisted of the following: PPG measurement in red and infrared light in the presence of artefacts in the horizontal plane, in the resting state, in the presence of artefacts in the vertical plane. It is shown that the infrared PPG channel has a greater signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for both vertical and horizontal motion artefacts of the eye. As a result of this work, studies have shown that the infrared PPG signal is less affected by eye motion artefacts than red PPG. Moreover, the recorded signals in the conditions of vertical eyes movements have a lower SNR than in the conditions of horizontal eyes movements. Effective control over any process is impossible without complete, reliable and timely information about the technological item condition. Such information is obtained via the automated process control system measuring channels. They include a primary transducer, a normalizing transducer, a communication link, an analog-to-digital converter, and a computational processor. Failures inevitably occur in the operation of any equipment. When a measuring channel fails, the control system obtains false information. A complete failure occurs when one of the measuring channel components fails. In case of a partial (metrological) failure, the measuring channel remains operational, but the measurement error exceeds the permissible value. The complete failure is diagnosed using the integrated diagnostics systems for instrumentation and a controller. Herewith, the integrated diagnostics systems cannot detect a partial failure, therefore, the partial failure diagnostics system should be created. It should not depend on the instrument types used. The paper considers the stages of building the crude oil distillation process regression model based on statistical data. The resulting model is the basis for the DCS partial measuring channel failures diagnostics system developed.

Due to the development of high technologies, there is a need to use computer systems to support the increasingly complex types of human activities. It provides high accuracy and speed of various research and medical examinations. Taking into account the daily workload of doctors in the Intensive Care Unit, remote medical diagnostics systems are being implemented in many referral hospitals to predict the course of diseases. Decision-making is the result of processing certain information, the medical history patients based on the use of accumulated knowledge. Therefore, it can be concluded that automatic and visual control systems make the diagnosis process more accurate and easier. Technical diagnostics is an independent science field. It deals with non-destructive methods and means to determine the status of the object or process. It uses knowledge based on the heuristic principle and mathematical models of diagnosed objects. Reliability of the technical equipment is conditional upon monitoring the technical condition of the object and the ongoing processes. In technical diagnostics, beside to standard signal processing methods, they are increasingly applied in addition to advanced signal analysis methods, based on artificial intelligence, neural networks, fuzzy logic, and expert systems. Of great importance in this area is the system approach. This paper discusses the possibilities and uses of the vector quantization method. For the method, the state space of the system or metric space is important. The method makes it possible to recognize the state closest to it from the previously defined possible states by measuring the appropriate set of state quantities of the technical device. Recognized equipment status may be linked to the corresponding maintenance, efficient control, and safety operations. The proposed method is based on the continuous evaluation of the measured variables classified into the appropriate class.
