This paper deals with the design and implementation of the processcontrol software for the hollow cathode plasma nitriding system. An integrated monitoring, control and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) capable system was designed to fulfill the requirements of a modern industrial control system. Besides the new control tasks imposed by the hollow cathode plasma nitriding, the integration of the plasma diagnostics and the Ethernet based monitoring system was added to the processcontrol system, thus online monitoring, remote access, data storing in cloud was developed. The paper is dedicated to the monitoring, data logging and remote control of the system, the controller design is not the current subject.

Providing online monitoring (E-diagnostics) has become a value-added practice for equipment maintenance service providers to improve the service quality and efficiency. However, the E-diagnostics is always imperfect, whose accuracy depends on how much components of the equipment are monitored (namely, E-diagnostics depth in our research). This research analyzes the optimal capacity planning and pricing problem by taking into account the imperfect E-diagnostics. In addition, we consider the E-diagnostics accelerate effect to the service process and attempt to find how the effect influences the service provider's decisions. Our results reveal that the optimal pricing and capacity planning decisions are dependent on customers' failure cost and service provider's compensation cost. Specifically, if customers' failure cost is larger than service provider's compensation, the service provider would improve the price as the E-diagnostics depth increases;otherwise, the price should be lowered as the E-diagnostics depth increases. In addition, we find as the accelerate effect becomes increasingly obvious, customers' expected waiting time increases but the service price decreases. (C) 2019 The Authors. Investigation results of the strain in stressed optical fiber and optical cable in various processes of production using Brillouin optical time-domain reflectometers are described in this article. The investigation results are confirmed the advantage of a Brillouin reflectometry method for early diagnostics and detection of local segments with mechanical stress in optical fibers. The phase shift method is effectively used to find the total optical fiber elongation. It is recommended to include the Brillouin reflectometer in the control systems of the optical fiber characteristics to detect fiber sections with high mechanical stress and temperature changes. This will make it possible to identify the potentially harmful segments in the optical cable at various stages of the cable production and improve the technologies used in the production process.

Reciprocating compressors are critical components in the oil and gas sector, though their maintenance cost is known to be relatively high. Compressor valves are the weakest component, being the most frequent failure mode, accounting for almost half the maintenance cost. One of the major targets in industry is minimisation of downtime and cost, while maximising availability and safety of a machine, with maintenance considered a key aspect in achieving this objective. The concept of Condition Based Maintenance and Prognostics and Health Management (CBM/PHM) which is founded on the diagnostics and prognostics principles, is a step towards this direction as it offers a proactive means for scheduling maintenance. Despite the fact that diagnostics is an established area for reciprocating compressors, to date there is limited information in the open literature regarding prognostics, especially given the nature of failures can be instantaneous. This work presents an analysis of prognostic performance of several methods (multiple linear regression, polynomial regression, K-Nearest Neighbours Regression (KNNR)), in relation to their accuracy and variability, using actual temperature only valve failure data, an instantaneous failure mode, from an operating industrial compressor. Furthermore, a variation for Remaining Useful Life (RUL) estimation based on KNNR, along with an ensemble technique merging the results of all aforementioned methods are proposed. Prior to analysis, principal components analysis and statistical processcontrol were employed to create T-2 and Q metrics, which were proposed to be used as health indicators reflecting degradation process of the valve failure mode and are proposed to be used for direct RUL estimation for the first time. Results demonstrated that even when RUL is relatively short due to instantaneous nature of failure mode, it is feasible to perform good RUL estimates using the proposed techniques.

Ion Mill Etching (IME) is an advanced process technology that uses ion-beam sources to remove materials by atomic sandblasting in order to reveal a specific pattern on the substrate. The high precision capability requires stringent process monitoring and control of the flowcool system which is critical to prevent thermal deformation for temperature sensitive materials from the heat generated from the ion beam irradiation. This study focuses on a multi-sensor data analytics to monitoring the IME process condition enabling diagnostics and prediction of three main failure mechanisms of the IME flowcool system. A generalizable framework of engineering-based data-driven failure diagnostics and prediction is developed using random forest-based classification and a Deep Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM)-based failure prediction. The proposed framework and methods are demonstrated and validated in an ion mill etching process using multi-sensor data collected from multiple run-to failure cycles. Three different failure modes related to the flowcool system are detected, identified in real time and the time to the next failure is accurately predicted. The proposed method provides a systematic and generalizable approach for process monitoring and early prediction of failures by using heterogeneous sensor measurements and operational data when under various operating conditions and settings.

Even if some network errors have been resolved in the past, the administrator must spend considerable time removing these errors when they reoccur. This article presents an automated tool to learn the expected behavior of network protocols and possible variations. The created model can be used to automate the diagnostic process. The model presents a finite automaton containing protocol behavior for different situations. diagnostics of unknown communication is performed by checking the created model and searching for error states and their descriptions. We have also created a proof-of-concept tool that demonstrates the practical potential of this approach.
