DDoS attacks are among the significant challenges to the stability and reliability of networks, especially in SDN environments. The proposed solution gives advanced approach for intelligent DDoS attack prevention and mitigation using state-of-the-art deep learning techniques. By leveraging a DNN-based classification model trained on diverse network traffic datasets, the proposed method accurately identifies malicious traffic patterns in real time. The framework provides integration of optimization strategies related to performance and improves accuracy of detection of DDoS attacks along with reductions in false positives and allows for scalability. Experimental results indicate the efficacy of the presented method in comparison to others with respect to precision, recall, and computational efficiency on the detection and mitigation of DDoS attacks. This study identifies critical issues in mitigating DDoS and offers a viable solution towards safe SDN operations.

Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks have become increasingly frequent, overwhelming target servers by flooding them with packets from bots. Though firewalls can block illegitimate traffic, attacks become harder to detect when bots spoof the ip addresses of trusted content delivery network (CDN) cache servers. To mitigate this, we propose a two-stage detection method that uses a dynamic based on packet arrival intervals and DNS $\log$ analysis. By incorporating Z-scores, our method adapts to changing traffic patterns and significantly reduces the load on the origin server (OS). Performance evaluations show that our approach enhances DDoS detection accuracy while lowering processing costs, with optimal thresholds designed for varying environments.

Low-Earth Orbit constellations are one of the recent advancements that could provide a fresh perspective on Internet connectivity. They are appealing because they provide global coverage, they offer low round-trip-time, and they can grow to tens of thousands satellites to increase the offered capacity. However, simulating large urban areas is challenging due to the scalability limitations of the simulators. We present the results of a simulation campaign in which we improve the current state-of-the-art vehicular network simulator, Veins, in its satellite-based variant (Space Veins). We introduce a precise three-dimensional analysis that allows us to use detailed city maps, which in turn allows us to use realistic traffic patterns. We show that the parameters that most impact the results of the simulators are two: the assumptions on the building height and the positioning of the vehicles in the map. Results are extremely sensitive to these factors, underscoring the need for more open data and standardized, repeatable scenarios that can facilitate better research evaluation in this field.

Estimating vigilance has always been a non-trivial challenge in safety-critical domains such as surveillance, driving, security monitoring, and air traffic control. Traditional methods have been enhanced by machine learning and deep learning approaches to seek effective solutions. However, despite several notable approaches, the problem persists due to the binary nature of classification. To gain a comprehensive understanding of an operator’s mental state, it is crucial to categorize vigilance into multiple levels for deeper insights. Another challenge is handling variable-sized data, as human performance leads to fluctuating data sizes. While many researchers address this issue by data padding or truncation, which often results in introducing biases. In this research, we address both issues by proposing a Graph Convolution Network (GCN)-based approach to estimate vigilance from varying lengths of EEG signals. The use of GCNs is motivated by their flexibility and scalability, allowing them to manage datasets of varying lengths effectively and adapt to diverse data patterns by focusing on localized node relationships. Features extracted by the GCN are classified into six vigilance levels using a Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) and a Liquid Neural Network (LNN). Our results show that the MLP outperforms the LNN, achieving an accuracy of 93.23% in training and 91.45% in testing when combined with the GCN, while the GCN paired with the LNN achieves 81.94% in training and 82.16% in testing. These findings suggest that the GCN-MLP framework is a promising tool for real-time vigilance monitoring in high-stakes environments. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

traffic prediction in urban areas is essential for smart city applications, enabling efficient transportation management, reduced congestion, and improved quality of life. Spatio-temporal traffic prediction is particularly challenging due to complex spatial and temporal dependencies in traffic data. This study introduces a Convolutional-Temporal Neural Net- work System (CTNS) model that combines Convolutional Neural networks (CNNs) and Recurrent Neural networks (RNNs) to capture spatial and temporal features simultaneously for more accurate traffic forecasting. CNNs are employed to learn spatial correlations between different locations in the urban area, while RNNs, specifically Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks, capture the sequential dependencies in temporal traffic patterns. Using real-world traffic data, the hybrid CTNS model demonstrates superior performance in accurately predicting traffic flow compared to traditional models. This approach highlights the potential of deep learning architectures for enhancing the accuracy of traffic predictions, which is critical for urban planning and intelligent transportation systems. Extensive experiments on real-world urban traffic datasets validate the model's ability to achieve high accuracy, scalability, and robustness in handling complex spatio-temporal interactions.

Urban traffic congestion significantly impacts mobility, fuel efficiency, and emergency response times, necessitating intelligent and adaptive traffic management solutions. This paper proposes a Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) enabled dynamic traffic signal control system that leverages AI-driven Adaptive control Logic (ACL) and Q-learning to optimize signal timings within geofenced intersections. The system employs Raspberry Pi-based edge controllers, GPS-integrated vehicular nodes, and MQTT protocol over LTE networks to ensure real-time, low-latency data exchange. Q-learning facilitates autonomous policy optimization by learning from historical traffic patterns, while ACL dynamically adjusts signal durations based on vehicle density and priority metrics. By integrating reward-based signal adjustments, the proposed system achieves efficient traffic flow regulation, emergency vehicle prioritization, and adaptive congestion mitigation. Simulation results demonstrate significant reductions in average vehicle wait times and enhanced network scalability, positioning this approach as a robust solution for next-generation smart transportation infrastructures.

Nowadays cyberattack is a stern illegal crime and it is one of the most commonly discussed issues. An unauthorised third party who joins an internet conversation between two users and stays hidden between them is known as a Man in the Middle Attack (MIM). This problem is severe, and the majority of cryptographic systems that lack adequate verification security are susceptible to malware known as Man in the Middle Attack. A variety of activities, such as fraud, unauthorised support exchanges, or unauthorised watchword changes, might be carried out using information obtained during an attack. In this research paper we have applied MIM, a malevolent party may transmit, receive, and disrupt data intended for parties other than the ones involved in the interaction. An intruder inside the system known as a man-in-the-middle attack has the ability to contact, read, and alter confidential data while leaving no evidence of their actions. Some methods for identifying man-in- the-middle attacks and simple instructions for users to follow in order to avoid these attacks both now and in the future have been included, as security is everyone’s top priority. ARP poisoning is a technique used in man-in-the-middle attacks to trick networks by connecting the attacker’s MAC address to a real ip address, which allows for data manipulation and interception. Redirecting messages to change routing tables and route traffic through the attacker’s system for eavesdropping is known as ICMP manipulation. By using fictitious ip addresses to reroute victim queries to a malicious site, DNS spoofing makes it easier to intercept and alter conversations. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

As the Internet of Things digital systems have been becoming increasingly complex, so are the cybersecurity issues, which, in turn, have been heightened by the malicious activities of Portable Executable (PE) malware and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. These kinds of threats constitute a significant challenge to the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of connected systems; hence, an immediate need has been identified to design effective detection mechanisms. The development of IoT-based devices has moved at a galloping speed, which was accompanied by enormous security issues of these networks with respect to potential cyber threats caused by PE malware or DDoS. The PE malware exploits vulnerabilities in executable files to breach IoT devices, which most of the time leads to unauthorized access and system compromise. However, DDoS attacks target IoT networks by causing a flood of malicious traffic against them, thereby resulting in service interruptions and great damage. The proposed system uses Multivariate Correlation Analysis (MCA) to evaluate network flow based on the extraction and analysis of spatial relationships among traffic attributes. MCA can prove to be an effective anomaly-based detection mechanism in the case of malicious behavior. The proposed system ensures scalability and real-time capability in terms of detection offered by it by using lightweight machine learning models and combining them with MCA. This strategy intends to enhance IoT environment security through a reliable framework for identifying PE malware and counteracting DDoS attacks.

Sustainability is becoming increasingly challenging in today's data centers with limited space, power and connectivity. Large cloud service providers interconnect geographically distributed datacenters for better scalability and availability. Applications running on cross-datacenter network impose great challenges in transport design. In this paper, we identify two inherent limitations of extending the existing transport technology, RDMA, and its Ethernet derivative, RoCE, to long-haul transmission. First, the on-chip resources of commodity RDMA NICs are insufficient for long-haul transmission. Second, applying existing traffic control schemes to inter-datacenter environment exhibits poor performance. Motivated by this, we propose Torrent, a switch-driven transport framework which partitions end-to-end control into three sub-control loops. To achieve the combined goals of fairness and high performance in cross-datacenter scenarios, Torrent employs fast acknowledgment and near-end congestion control on datacenter interconnection (DCI) switches. We implement Torrent prototypes on commodity programmable switches and evaluate it through real-world testbed experiments. Our results show that Torrent can achieve high link utilization over ultra-long distances and quickly converge congested flows to steady rates.
