Currently network uses, especially the number of Internet users, increase rapidly. Also, high quality of service is required and this requirement results a sudden network traffic increment. As a result, an efficient management system for huge network traffic becomes an important issue. The system entity structure (SES) using data engineering concepts enables network administrators to access traffic data easily and efficiently. The network traffic analysis system, which is studied in this paper, is an effective management system with a high throughput and a low response time designed and implemented based on a model and simulation based data engineering methodology. Extensible markup language (XML) is used for metadata language in this system.

This paper describes the design of an adaptive data link control (DLC) protocol for wireless ATM networks and measures its performance in a locally deployed testbed implemented by the RDRN (Rapidly Deployable Radio Network) project. Our DLC protocol provides quality of service (QoS) support for ATM-based virtual connections by distinguishing between delay-sensitive and loss-sensitive traffic over the wireless portion of the network. Delay sensitive traffic that is received with errors is dropped while loss-sensitive traffic that is lost or received with errors is selectively retransmitted using a go-back-N ARQ scheme. To overcome the unreliability of a wireless link, the DLC protocol exploits adaptation techniques that utilize channel state information to maximize the performance of individual connections. Our experiments shows that the adaptive data link control protocol under consideration is more robust at dealing with lossy wireless links than its non-adaptive counterpart version; we have achieved TCP/ip throughput speedups of up to 4 times in our adaptive protocol implementation for virtual connections established over both delay-sensitive and loss-sensitive channels across impaired wireless links.

WebRTC is increasingly adopted by real-time streaming applications beyond traditional multiparty collaboration, in virtue of its low-latency capabilities. To support large scale deployments, the WebRTC architecture has evolved from the original peer-to-peer design to a centralized MCU-based (Multipoint control Unit) system first, then to a lighter, SFU-based (Selective Forwarding Unit) system where media encoding/decoding and rate selection is delegated to the *** this paper we present ICN-RTC, a real time communication architecture build on the latest SFU-based proposal that exploits the scalability benefits provided by Information-Centric Networking (ICN). We also propose the ICN-RTC synchronization protocol, a protocol that allows to use the pull-based transport of ICN without introducing additional latency to media *** implemented ICN-RTC using Hybrid ICN, an incrementally deployable ICN implementation using ip. Preliminary results are encouraging: ICN-RTC scales with the number of active speakers rather than the total number of users in the conference. This allows for calls with ten times more participants with respect to the standard WebRTC, reducing the resources needed for the call by more than a hundred times.

With the growing demand for wireless Internet services and advancement in broadband wireless technologies, seamless hand-off has become a crucial factor in quality of service aware networks. The hierarchical WiMAX network model gives low hand-off latency but requires centralized control approach which introduces system overhead and increased packet end-to-end delay. The flat architecture model reduces system overhead and packet end to end delay at the cost of higher hand-off latency. Hence, a scheme to reduce hand off latency in flat architecture model is proposed. The proposed scheme utilizes information provided by the Medium Access control (MAC) layer regarding hand-off in order to minimize network layer hand off delay. With the help of simulation using OPNET Modeler, it is shown that the new scheme decreases the hand-off latency while causing no extra overhead to the WiMAX network.

We present the most significant results studying the Internet network traffic measurements obtained in Ciez@net. Ciez@net is a citizen subnet located in the village of Cieza that belongs to the regional network of the autonomous community of Murcia in Spain. This subnet is one of the firsts pilot experiences of a digital city in Europe and the first in the region of Murcia. The goal is the seamless introduction of the information society in a medium-size population. Access to advanced electronic information services is stimulated or subsidized for effective penetration. These measurements will allow a qualitative and quantitative knowledge of the network traffic in order to achieve a most effective network resource provisioning and Internet traffic forecasting in a real scenario. A suitable dimensioning of the network as well as an adequate provisioning of quality of service to users may depend partially on these results. Measurements were taken from a frame relay link connecting Ciez@net's users to Internet through the main node located in Murcia city. We used a promiscuous network analyzer that avoids interfering with the network traffic. We report the results of the traffic load, network performance, percentage composition of traffic by protocol and type of application, and ip packet size distribution in both, up and down communications streams.

Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) are wireless multi-hop backhaul networks in which mesh routers relay traffic on behalf of clients or other routers. Due to large MAC layer overhead, applications such as Voice over ip, which send many small packets, show poor performance in WMNs. Packet aggregation increases the capacity of IEEE 802.11-based WMNs by aggregating small packets into larger ones and thereby reducing overhead. In order to have enough packets to aggregate, packets need to be delayed and buffered. Current aggregation mechanisms use fixed buffer delays or do not take into account the delay characteristics of the saturated IEEE 802.11 MAC layer. In this work, we present FUZPAG, a novel packet aggregation architecture for IEEE 802.11-based wireless mesh networks. It uses fuzzy control to determine the optimum aggregation buffer delay under the current channel utilization. By cooperation among neighboring nodes FUZPAG distributes the buffer delay in a fair way. We implemented and evaluated the system in a wireless mesh testbed. For different network topologies we show that FUZPAG outperforms standard aggregation in terms of end-to-end latency under a wide range of traffic patterns.

This paper proposes a measurement system of QoS parameters for a Sip based Internet telephony service. This system is called QoS agent and will allow telephony user to receive alerts in real time if network conditions are not suitable to make a call. Two complementary types of measurement methods will be used. The first one is called incall method which uses RTCP packets statistics obtained during the first seconds of a call in progress. The second one is called outcall method. It periodically uses the Sip OPTIONS method to obtain delay statistics out of a call. This system constitutes an alternative solution of QoS management for ip telephony service providers that use third party's infrastructure to provide the service

This article presents a new QoS architecture for IEEE 802.16 Broadband Wireless MAN. The newly proposed strategy of providing QoS in packet-based networks via IEEE 802.16 has been analyzed. A mapping rule for providing layer 2.5(MPLS protocol) and MAC layer has been proposed. A fast signaling mechanism has been designed to provide QoS in Point to Multipoint (PMP) mode. Although IEEE 802.16 standards define different mechanisms to provide Quality of Service requirements, it is the responsibility of the developers to obtain efficient designs. In this paper, we introduce a novel architecture for providing QoS requirements such as bandwidth utilization and delay. Simulation result shows the high performance of our architecture for traffic classes defined by the standard.

Wide area distributed cloud computing, where data are processed and stored at micro datacenters (DCs) located around terminals, improves response time and reduces the amount of traffic in wide area networks. However, it is difficult for the cloud to maintain service in the case of micro DC failure because the robustness of micro DCs is substantially lower than that of conventional DCs. We propose a flow control system that transfers the flow to other micro DCs by converting the L2, L3, and L4 headers of received packets via OpenFlow when micro DC failures occur. The proposed system enables flow to be transferred to other micro DCs even from M2M terminals such as sensors that are unable to change the destination ip address. We also developed a distributed control system to solve the critical problem of switching delay caused by the packet-in mechanism used when applying the OpenFlow to the distributed cloud. Emulation results showed that throughput in the distributed control became stable 12 times as quickly as that in the centralized control when flow was transferred.

The paper addresses the issue of heterogeneity in the modeling of wireless cellular networks. Wireless network modeling is a complex task because of the large number of parameters involved and the intricate nature of wireless networks. In order to simplify network modeling, researchers often make the assumption of homogeneity; for instance, all cells in a cellular network are assumed to have the same size and capacity, all nodes have the same bandwidth requirements, etc. However, in the real world, networks do not conform to such assumptions of homogeneity; heterogeneity is more prevalent. Therefore, it is important to understand how it affects the modeling of wireless networks so that we can improve the task of network design. We introduce heterogeneity to various modeling parameters and study its effect on the network behavior. We show that heterogeneity can hide several subtleties, which, if not properly modeled, can lead to misleading conclusions. Our goal is to raise the awareness of the community to the importance of heterogeneity and the attention that we need to devote to its realistic modeling.
