Mobility management is addressed in a novel way by recasting the problem as one of learning from existing system behavior and establishing at runtime new policies in response to varying needs. In order to capture the higher-level aims of both users and administrators, DPQOERP (Dynamic Position & Quorum Based opportunistic Energy Routing Protocol) is implemented. In this research, the OMER (optimized Mobility and Energy-based Routing) strategy to wireless network congestion control and traffic management is introduced. Using this method, networks can deploy ip (Internet Protocol) carriers and define the real world as something that is manageable from a network perspective. Using traffic data from the network, we can see that if traffic grows, dynamic data transfer throughput greatly increases.

With the goal to provide ubiquitous wireless Internet access, large-scale deployment of outdoor public access networks will continue at a rapid pace in the next years. In outdoor environment, connecting access points (APs) via cables is costly and requires a lot of cabling engineering work. Therefore, the multihop-augmented network architecture has become an option of upsurging interest. This paper investigates how to deploy APs in an outdoor public access network to improve throughput and quality-of-service (QoS) while extending the coverage by multihop communications. Frequency planning is suggested to improve user throughput with QoS provisioning, and to make the multihop network more scalable to facilitate coverage extension. To investigate the overall tradeoffs among QoS, throughput, and coverage, we develop an analytical throughput and delay model for this multihop network using the carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) medium access control (MAC) protocol. This model also considers bidirectional asymmetric traffic for users operating in the unsaturated situation. Then, we apply an optimization approach to determine the optimal number of APs in a cluster and the best separation distances between APs, aiming to maximize the capacity and coverage of a cluster of APs subject to the delay requirement.

Challenges presented by the exponential growth of the Internet have resulted in the intense demand for broadband services. Providing bandwidth and connectivity on demand has risen to be an important goal for service providers. To realize this, signaling in the optical network seems to be a critical component. Provisioning involves establishing a circuit from one client end system to another, through the optical backbone. With this general notion, this paper discusses in brief the role of signaling in all-optical networks, which employ DWDM for lower layer transport. The architectural choices pertaining to lightpath services are outlined. Signaling procedures for ensuring dynamic end-to-end lightpath setup have also been presented. Path provisioning comprises a string of operations like service and neighbor discovery, route computation, signaling requests, and path setup. This paper tries to summarize the various strategies, designed for each step, for use in the all-optical networks.

The rise of connected vehicular networks (CVNs) holds promise for future intelligent transport systems, offering improvements in safety and road efficiency. CVNs face challenges due to data-driven perception and driving models, requiring extensive knowledge to navigate complex scenarios. In vehicular networks, federated learning (FL) is vital for privacy-preserving machine learning (ML). It allows collaborative training of a single ML model across edge devices while keeping data locally, preserving privacy. However, scalability remains a challenge, especially for large ML models, and can yield suboptimal results when local data distributions diverge. We present a robust and efficient Fed-aided multi-task temporal clustering (FeMTC) knowledge-sharing framework tailored to the demands of highly distributed vehicular networks. Our approach quantifies the temporal similarity between a pair of client vectors to group clients with higher similarity at the edge-base server and trains independently on single and multi-task cluster learning. Experiments show that FeMTC achieves faster convergence and up to 15% better performance than existing methods in some scenarios. It easily combines with other methods for improved performance and exhibits robust gains in various non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) scenarios.

In wireless mobile ad-hoc networks, data packets have to be relayed hop by hop from a given source node to a destination node. This means that some or all of the mobile nodes must accept to forward information for the benefit of other nodes. It has been shown by F. Nait-Abdesselam, et al., (2003) that this ability of forwarding packets leads to a new unfairness problem in wireless ad-hoc networks, where a node which is forwarding other node's packets gets less bandwidth, for its own use, than a node which is not participating to the routing service. The proposed RAMAC scheme by F. Nait-Abdesselam, et al., (2003), has shown all its effectiveness to cope with this unfairness problem. However, an extra bandwidth is sometimes allowed to the routing node's own traffic comparing to other nonrouting node's own traffics, and the routing node's routed traffic gets much less bandwidth. This is explained by the fact that at the upper layer (for instance the ip layer) does not differentiate between the routing and the own traffics, and that the multiplicative factor used to compute the new contention window is too aggressive. In this paper, an enhanced RAMAC scheme is proposed, by taking into account the differentiation on top of the MAC layer, between the and routed traffics within a routing node, and by smoothing the multiplicative factor used to compute the new contention window. The simulation results obtained showed a good improvement of the original RAMAC scheme, leading to better approximate equal bandwidth share among all the mobile nodes in the wireless ad-hoc network.

Application-centric networking is a novel approach to construct transport networks that allows application-specific requirements to be taken into account through the entire service provisioning process: the service offered to each application is differentiated at each layer of the transport network, from ip to optical. This approach replaces the grooming of traffic with different requirements into a shared path in the transport layer, and allows for a finer control and utilization of network resources by network operators. To make this concept viable, an interface for requesting a connectivity service by applications requires an abstraction with respect to the various underlying network technologies. Interfaces based on the concept of Intents provide such an abstraction: applications can describe what they need from the network (their requirements) rather than how to achieve them. This paper describes the design and implementation of the solution we propose: DISMI, the Intent-based North-Bound Interface of a network controller.

In ad hoc networks, hierarchical routing is viewed as an effective solution to face scalability problems. Such routing relies on a subset of nodes to reduce control overhead associated to routing tasks and preserve network resources. Multipath routing can also be adopted in order to exploit suitably network resources by allowing load balancing and route fault tolerance. Combining the benefits of hierarchical routing and multipath routing can improve significantly the network performances and cope better with mobility. The main contribution of this paper is to propose a multipath extension of a hierarchical routing, which constructs link-disjoint paths and selects less congested and correlated paths for an efficient data transfer and resources use. The performance of our multipath algorithm is witnessed by simulation results. These results indicate that our proposed multipath extension is more effective under various traffic loads in terms of packet delivery ratio and control overhead.

Dynamic Spectrum Access allows using the spectrum opportunistically by identifying wireless technologies sharing the same medium. However, detecting a given technology is, most of the time, not enough to increase spectrum efficiency and mitigate coexistence problems due to radio interference. As a solution, recognizing traffic patterns may lead to select the best time to access the shared spectrum optimally. To this extent, we present a traffic recognition approach that, to the best of our knowledge, is the first non-intrusive method to detect traffic patterns directly from the radio spectrum, contrary to traditional packet-based analysis methods. In particular, we designed a Deep Learning (DL) architecture that differentiates between Transmission control Protocol (TCP) and User Datagram Protocol (UDP) traffic, burst traffic with different duty cycles, and traffic with varying rates of transmission. As input to these models, we explore the use of images representing the spectrum in time and time-frequency. Furthermore, we present a novel data randomization approach to generate realistic synthetic data that combines two state-of-the-art simulators. Finally, we show that after training and testing our models in the generated dataset, we achieve an accuracy of ≥ 96 % and outperform state-of-the-art methods based on ip-packets with DL.

Multimedia flows are inherently inhomogenous, i.e. packets within a flow are of different importance for actual user perception. When transmitting such flows with real-time constraints in networks like the Internet which offer no reliability of transmission, some packet loss is inevitable. The perceptual impact of these losses is then amplified by the arbitrary distribution of packet losses within the flow which impairs the reconstruction of application data units (ADUs) at the receiver, as well as the performance of end-to-end loss recovery mechanisms. To control the loss distribution within a flow ("intra-flow" QoS) typically filtering higher-layer information within the network is proposed, which is both expensive in terms of resources, as well as undesirable with regard to network security. We compare two novel queue management algorithms which improve the intra-flow QoS without higher-layer filtering. The first algorithm is called DiffRED (differential random early detection). It differentiates between packets marked by the sender as either more or less eligible to be dropped in comparison to unmarked packets without keeping any per-flow state. The other algorithm called PLoP (predictive loss pattern) operates without per-packet marking, yet keeping partial per-flow state. We introduce simple metrics to describe the loss process of individual flows and present simulation results with voice as foreground traffic using the proposed methods in a multi-hop topology. We find that both algorithms do not have a significant impact on the background traffic. For the given scenario algorithms using packet marking are found to be superior because for the foreground traffic a high probability for short bursts with potentially high perceptual impact can be traded against a higher probability for isolated losses as well as higher (but acceptable) probability for very long loss bursts.

This paper presents the adaptive video over ip (AVip) approach to transmit video sequences. A rate-selection algorithm based on both delay and loss indication is presented and its performance measured using actual MPEG-2 video sequences, network simulations and objective measures of perceptual quality. The results show that the AVip approach leads to efficient use of available network resources, reactiveness to congestions and TCP-friendliness. Moreover, AVip delivers significantly higher perceptual levels of quality than traditional constant-bit-rate systems operating at the same average level.
