Nowadays careful measurement applications are handed over to Wired and Wireless sensor Network. Taking the scenario of train location as an example, this would lead to an increase in uncertainty about position related to sensors with long acquisition times like Balises, RFID and Transponders along the track. We take into account the data without any synchronization protocols, for increase the accuracy and reduce the uncertainty after the data fusion algorithms. The case studies, we have analysed, derived from the needs of the project partners: train localization, head of an auger in the drilling sector localization and the location of containers of radioactive material waste in a reprocessing nuclear plant. They have the necessity to plan the maintenance operations of their infrastructure basing through architecture that taking input from the sensors, which are localization and diagnosis, maps and cost, to optimize the cost effectiveness and reduce the time of operation.

Hyperspectral imaging has become one of the main topics in remote sensing applications, which comprise hundreds of spectral bands at different (almost contiguous) wavelength channels over the same area generating large data volumes comprising several GBs per flight. This high spectral resolution can be used for object detection and for discriminate between different objects based on their spectral characteristics. One of the main problems involved in hyperspectral analysis is the presence of mixed pixels, which arise when the spacial resolution of the sensor is not able to separate spectrally distinct materials. Spectral unmixing is one of the most important task for hyperspectral data exploitation. However, the unmixing algorithms can be computationally very expensive, and even high power consuming, which compromises the use in applications under on-board constraints. In recent years, graphics processing units (GPUs) have evolved into highly parallel and programmable systems. Specifically, several hyperspectral imaging algorithms have shown to be able to benefit from this hardware taking advantage of the extremely high floating-point processing performance, compact size, huge memory bandwidth, and relatively low cost of these units, which make them appealing for onboard data processing. In this paper, we propose a parallel implementation of an augmented Lagragian based method for unsupervised hyperspectral linear unmixing on GPUs using CUDA. The method called simplex identification via split augmented Lagrangian (SISAL) aims to identify the endmembers of a scene, i.e., is able to unmix hyperspectral data sets in which the pure pixel assumption is violated. The efficient implementation of SISAL method presented in this work exploits the GPU architecture at low level, using shared memory and coalesced accesses to memory.

In recent years, the number of commercially available LADAR (also referred to as LIDAR) systems have grown with the increased interest in ground vehicle robotics and aided navigation/collision avoidance in various industries. With this increased demand the cost of these systems has dropped and their capabilities have increased. As a result of this trend, LADAR systems are becoming a cost effective sensor to use in a number of applications of interest to the US Army. One such application is the standoff detection of road-side hazards from ground vehicles. This paper will discuss detection of road-side hazards partially concealed by light to medium vegetation. Current algorithms using commercially available LADAR systems for detecting these targets will be presented, along with results from relevant data sets. Additionally, optimization of commercial LADAR sensors and/or fusion with Radar will be discussed as ways of increasing detection ability.

The last decade has seen a considerable increase in the number of sensors we interact with on a daily basis. However, it is not always possible for a single sensing system to capture the complete story. While statically mounted infrastructure sensors typically capture the what, where, how much etc aspects of a detected event , e.g. ( what appliance was used, how much energy did it consume), they do not always answer the who question. On the other hand, the advent of wearables has helped answer the what and who aspects - e.g. (who used the appliance). Fusing such sensor streams that observe the same event but different attributes of it, opens up many interesting applications. In this paper, we present a globally optimal data fusion algorithm for such pairs of systems, and show why traditional bipartite algorithms do not work. We evaluate our algorithm against two greedy baselines and show that our algorithm has lesser variance in the presence of time skew, false positives and false negatives. © 2015 ACM.

As buildings get smarter they need to be aware of their spaces and occupants to improve prediction and management of energy consumption and environment customization based on user preference. User identification is crucial to this. However, accuracy of identification, intrusiveness and cost are important factors that one considers before installing such a system. Accounting for these factors, we built a Smart-Door that incorporates fusion of not-so-smart sensors, soft information available and learning algorithms to build an economical and accurate user identification system that requires no user intervention to monitor the occupant count and identities in a shared office space that can be scaled up to a building. It provides real-time occupancy status for the area and it can also learn to identify new users. In addition to energy management, such a user identification system has significant applications including evacuation procedures and localizing malfunctioning appliances. © 2015 ACM.

Wireless sensor network is deployed on human inaccessible region to perform a very sensitive task where various external and internal factors affect the results being accumulated by the sensing node. Data fusion is one such technique. With the upcoming applications of wireless sensor network, it is also accompanied by various power and quality related issues. However, it was seen that whatever are the challenges or issues, it affects basically the data collection techniques from sensor nodes and corresponding forwarding to sink node. Hence, this paper aims to perform an exclusive investigation of the data fusion with respect to various standard architectures, standard algorithms and techniques investigated in the past study for performing data fusion, followed by open issues and research gap in the existing system adopted for enhancing the efficiency of data fusion techniques. We present algorithm evaluations for ATR of small sea vessels. The targets are at km distance from the sensors, which means that the algorithms have to deal with images affected by turbulence and mirage phenomena. We evaluate previously developed algorithms for registration of 3D-generating laser radar data. The evaluations indicate that some robustness to turbulence and mirage induced uncertainties can be handled by our probabilistic-based registration method. We also assess methods for target classification and target recognition on these new 3D data. An algorithm for detecting moving vessels in infrared image sequences is presented;it is based on optical flow estimation. Detection of moving target with an unknown spectral signature in a maritime environment is a challenging problem due to camera motion, background clutter, turbulence and the presence of mirage. First, the optical flow caused by the camera motion is eliminated by estimating the global flow in the image. Second, connected regions containing significant motions that differ from camera motion is extracted. It is assumed that motion caused by a moving vessel is more temporally stable than motion caused by mirage or turbulence. Furthermore, it is assumed that the motion caused by the vessel is more homogenous with respect to both magnitude and orientation, than motion caused by mirage and turbulence. Sufficiently large connected regions with a flow of acceptable magnitude and orientation are considered target regions. The method is evaluated on newly collected sequences of SWIR and MWIR images, with varying targets, target ranges and background clutter. Finally we discuss a concept for combining passive and active imaging in an ATR process. The main steps are passive imaging for target detection, active imaging for target/background segmentation and a fusion of passive and active imaging for target recognition.
