This paper investigates a novel radar concept that is based on a minimalistic, small-aperture antenna array but features intelligent beam-shape switching and artificial-intelligence signal processing. In contrast to conventional phased-arrays, size, cost, and hardware complexity are drastically reduced by the proposed dual-antenna array which can create a broad and a frequency-scanning notched beam shape. The angular-resolution and target discrimination performance of the proposed radar concept have been validated by radar simulations for single and multiple target scenarios. For the signal processing, two convolutional neural networks (CNN) and a multilayer perceptron model are benchmarked against each other. A further CNN is implemented for estimating the number of targets, which can be used to pre-select the type of network determining range and cross-range of multiple targets. This paper shows that a small antenna aperture frontend in combination with beam-shape switching and artificial-intelligence signal processing methods is a suitable hardware-efficient radar concept for accurate multi-target location.

In this analysis, effects of co-channel interference, unintentional interference, fading on an Orthogonal(O)-CDMA and a Slow Frequency Hopping (SFH)-TDMA are investigated. Both OCDMA and SFH/TDMA are small-cell, low-mobility systems without low-rate speech coding and other heavy-duty baseband signal processing. Further, TDD rather than FDD is used. Both systems have the same number of channels, system bandwidth, cell layout, voice activity detection. After all the analysis, we have found that OCDMA and SFH/TDMA are very much the same on the basis of performance. One advantage for OCDMA is the ability to achieve a higher order of diversity via the RAKE;L can get up to 3. The advantage of SFH is that coding can be used effectively to improve performance. This is not true of OCDMA, since we are assuming low-speed mobility, and the signal variations due to multipath will be relatively slow. However, frequency hopping forces the variations to be fast so that coding is effective.

Time-lenses in general proved to be useful for many applications and specifically when utilizing them for temporal imaging schemes where they can image ultrafast signals that cannot be detected by any electronic based device. Over the last few years, we demonstrated that when joining together several time-lenses into a single time-lens array, it is possible to gain more information on the input signal. Such as measuring temporal depth imaging, the state of polarization of the input signal as a function of time, and retrieving the phase dynamics. However, when designing an array of time-lenses, there is a trade-off between joining large number of small time-lenses, so each signal will interact with many time-lenses but each one has low resolution, and joining small number of large time-lenses, so each has better temporal resolution but on the expanse of interacting with smaller number of time-lenses in the array. We showed that one way to overcome this drawback is to overlap adjacent time-lenses. Thus it is possible to both have large number of time-lenses without compromising on the size of each time-lens and obtaining high temporal resolution. In this proceeding, we overlap two time-lenses and measure the spectrum of the idler. We compare the numerical simulations of the frequency domain of the idler to the measured spectrum of the idler.

Clusters, constellations, formations, or 'swarms' of small satellites are fast becoming a way to perform scientific and technological missions more affordably. As objectives of these missions become more ambitious, there are still problems in increasing the number of communication windows, supporting multiple signals, and increasing data rates over reliable intersatellite and ground links to Earth. Also, there is a shortage of available frequencies in the 2 m and 70 cm bands due to rapid increase in the number of CubeSats orbiting the Earth - leading to further regulatory issues. Existing communication systems and radio signal processing Intellectual Property (IP) cores cannot fully address these challenges. One of the possible strategies to solve these issues is by equipping satellites with a Software Defined Radio (SDR). SDR is a key area to realise various software implementations which enable an adaptive and reconfigurable communication system without changing any hardware device or feature. This paper proposes a new SDR architecture which utilises a combination of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and field programmable Radio Frequency (RF) transceiver to solve back-end and front-end challenges and thereby enabling reception of multiple signals or satellites using single user equipment.

In the field of target detection, infrared small target detection(ISTD) is a critical area of research, playing a vital role in reconnaissance, guidance, and early warning systems. Existing spatial Filtering algorithms perform well in clean backgrounds; however, as these filters require manual design based on prior knowledge, they are prone to interference from complex scenes (e.g., clouds, buildings), leading to target omission. small targets typically exhibit blurry features and weak energy, making direct detection susceptible to interference from high-intensity areas, which may result in missed detections. To tackle these challenges, this paper presents a two-tier contrast improvement method (DLCE). First, a gradient filter group is used to enhance the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the target, and then, built upon the concept of local contrast measurement (LCM), a novel intensity calculation method is developed. The new contrast window design effectively enhances the target’s SNR. Compared with existing algorithms, like MPCM (Multi-Scale Patch-based Contrast Measurement) on publicly available datasets, the proposed method more effectively enhances the target’s radiative intensity while suppressing background noise. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is confirmed by the simulation results.

Recently superpixel-based approaches have been proposed for dimensionality reduction (DR) in hyperspectral images. The basic assumption of this approach is that the superpixel over-segmentation segments the image into small homogeneous areas. A low-dimensional (LD) image representation is obtained by using the average of the superpixels, which are then used in other image processing tasks up the processing chain. Due to superpixel-segmentation algorithm limitations, the region inside a superpixel may not be homogeneous. Therefore, the average may not be an adequate representation for the superpixel, leading to inaccuracies in the low dimensional representation resulting in errors in the image processing tasks or analysis. Here we present an enhanced superpixel-based dimensionality reduction approach that incorporates homogeneity testing of superpixels. Homogeneous superpixels are represented by their mean but heterogeneous superpixels are represented by multiple representative signatures selected using the SVDSS column subset selection algorithm. The representative signatures for the homogeneous and heterogeneous superpixels provide an improved low-dimensional representation for the hyperspectral image that better captures the image structure. We present experiments applying the proposed enhanced and the conventional superpixel dimensionality reduction approaches to unmixing using the constrained non-negative matrix factorization (cNMF). A subset of data from the Washington DC Mall HYDICE image is utilized. In the experiments, the enhanced superpixel-based dimensionality-reduction approach results in better unmixing results compared to the conventional approach and to unmixing using the full data set.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have become popular in commercial applications and the focus of interest has moved to UAV networks as well. A private UAV network or a Local Area Network of Drones (LoDs) is the best suitable UAV network for a small organization or an individual to perform specific tasks. The commercial UAVs which are available in the market has limited processing power and memory capacity. Although a UAV in a LoD can transfer the control and data signals to another UAV and finally, to the ground station, the performance of a LoD is limited by these constraints of the *** this paper, we propose a design of single control and feedback signal frame which uses a cross-layer approach. We compared the performance of this signaling mechanism with the existing signaling mechanism (a separate control and a feedback frame for each UAV) in LoD networks. We calculate the delay from the ground station to each UAV node for both signaling mechanisms and show that the new cross-layer single control and feedback frame signaling mechanism is better (less delay on the average) for signaling in a LoD network. © 2019 IEEE.

Orthopedic osteosarcoma is a prevalent malignant bone tumor. Preoperative planning, efficacy evaluation, and metastasis detection of osteosarcoma necessitate the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Due to the varying 10-cations, structures, sizes, and shapes of osteosarcomas among patients, as well as the high degree of tumor heterogeneity, segmenting osteosarcoma images manually presents a significant challenge for clinicians. In the meantime, the grayscale and texture features within the tumor in MRI images are not homogeneous, resulting in small grayscale differences between the tumor tissue and the surrounding normal tissue, which also presents a significant challenge for deep learning-based image segmentation methods. This paper proposes RTUNet++, a novel method for segmenting osteosarcoma MRI images. This method integrates the ResNet residual module, Transformer attention mechanism, and UNet++ Dense Skip Connection structure. We employ a CNN-Transformer hybrid architecture to prevent the loss of spatial feature data. Features with different semantic scales are aggregated at the decoder using multi-fusion dense jump connections to achieve flexible feature fusion. Consequently, in comparison experiments with various classical models, our proposed RTUNet++ achieves superior segmentation results on an osteosarcoma MRI image dataset. © 2023 IEEE.

Because the parallel data processing and the fast carry-free algorithm can be achieved by using Residue Number System (RNS) in VLSI (very large scale integration) design, RNS (Residue Number System) shows the high performance, such as low power consumption, small area, and short delay, etc. This paper presents the bit stream to RNS converting procedure based on (2 n-1)2n (2n+1) Moduli set. The converting circuit is designed by using Verilog language. The converter in this paper converts directly the bit stream to RNS form, having better application features for Delta-Sigma system based on DSD (direct stream digital). As result, the whole circuit logic is simplified and the circuit characteristic is improved. ©2009 IEEE.

With the continuous development of oil and gas exploration technology, the remaining exploration targets in the middle and shallow areas of the land are becoming less and less, and the deep complex targets have become an important replacement area for oil and gas growth. In order to enhance the deep tight gas exploration potential of the Songliao Basin in China, structural interpretation and reservoir prediction of deep volcanic rocks and glutenite lithologic gas reservoirs are carried out, while the basic requirements for seismic data acquisition in complex reservoir exploration in the middle-deep layers are: higher sampling density, even distribution of space, appropriate offset. In the face of particularly complex reservoirs, it is necessary to fully strengthen the acquisition parameters, ensure the reservoir prediction needs, and avoid the waste caused by the inability to solve the geological problems. However, due to the weak signal and strong interference, the conventional narrow-azimuth three-dimensional observation system in the Songliao Basin is affected by factors such as low folds, large grid bin, and low reception of complex structural information, which affects the middle-deep layers. The imaging effect has restricted the development of tight gas exploration in the middle-deep layers. Therefore, the broadband, wide-azimuth and high-density (BWH) 3D seismic exploration technology has been developed. BWH refers to a wider excitation and reception frequency band, a wider reception orientation, and a higher sampling density. Generally, broadband acquisition requires signals with an octave of more than 5 times;wide-azimuth observation systems should have an aspect ratio greater than 0.5, where an aspect ratio greater than 0.85 is called an omnidirectional observation system;when using an explosive source, sampling densities greater than 500,000 channels/km2 can be referred to as high-density sampling.
