The paper presents a Kalman filter based centroid tracking approach for multiple small targets. Before targets overlap, each target is tracked by a Kalman filter. When two targets overlap, a merged target is formed, and a Kalman filter for the overlapping target can be used to derive position and velocity of individual target. The main contributions of the paper are: 1) adaptive estimate of noise mean and variance in homogeneous and nonhomogeneous regions respectively, which can preserve SNR as much as possible. 2) Image intensity transformation for significantly reducing singular phenomena in centroid calculation, especially in a low SNR environment. 3) Robust estimate of Kalman filter parameters. Finally, experiments are conducted on images with real background and synthetic targets, a Monte Carlo analysis is directed.< >

Partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) scheme is a well known technique to equalize the data read from ID magnetic recording channels. The PRML scheme uses a linear equalizer followed by a maximum likelihood (ML) detector. This paper is novel in addressing the following aspects: a) We propose two different methods to design separable and non-separable 2D PR targets that help in signal detection, b) We propose an extension of ID Viterbi detector for signal detection in 2D ISI channels. We use the detector to study the efficacy of PR targets designed for a particular choice of 2D ISI channel.

In machine learning, feature subset selection phase is the process of selecting a small subset of the most relevant features for use in a model construction. The main goal of this paper is to perform a comparative study between features subset selection methods applied to the DNA microarray dataset and to investigate the strength of each method. The studied methods are: F test, T test, signal to noise ratio (S/R), ReliefF and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient (CC). This study is carried out using the dataset of the five cancers;Leukemia, Lung, Lymphoma, Central Nervous System and Ovarian cancers. The Evaluation of the studied methods has been done by using the supervised classifiers: K Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Machines (SVMs), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), Decision Tree for Classification (DTC) and Naive Bayes classifier (NV). The purpose of classification is to predict the presence of cancer. The classification accuracy is measured for each selected subset of genes. Results show that the combination between S/R selection method and the KNN classifier present the highest accuracies for different cancers;100% for only 13 relevant genes in Leukemia cancer, 100% for 21 genes in Lung cancer, 100% for 4 genes in Lymphoma cancer, 76.7% for 6 genes in CNS cancer, 100% for 30 genes in ovarian cancer. While the widespread use of low and slow UAVs brings convenience to all areas of society, it also poses a serious threat to the safety of the low-altitude domain. In the current field, radar detection and identification technology and infrared image recognition technology are widely used in target detection and identification. The neural network designed in this paper adopts fully connected neural network and convolutional neural network to extract global feature information and local feature information from the infrared broad spectrum data of low and slow small targets respectively, and the extracted feature information is fed into the target detection networks of different time periods for recognition training to obtain image recognition models and spectral recognition models of different time periods, and finally, the image recognition and spectral recognition Finally, the recognition rates of image recognition and spectral recognition are fused to obtain the final recognition rate. By combining the strengths of infrared hyperspectral images, making up for the deficiencies of multi-band images for target hours which are not easy to recognize, and fusion processing at multiple levels, the multi-band images break through the limitations of airborne target recognition, improve the anti-interference ability of recognition network, and also improve the accuracy rate of airborne target recognition. © 2022 IEEE.

For the targets whose maneuverability is not too severe, the azimuth echoes in a range bin are modeled as quadratic phase signal after the translational motion compensation. The FrFT algorithm can obtain a focused image by motion parameter estimation and compensation. However, when a range cell contains more than one scatterer, the effects of sidelobes and interference terms will deteriorate the performance of FrFT method. To solve this problem, we add a selecting step for range cells in the imaging scheme. By selecting the dominant-scatterer range cells the estimation performance can be improved obviously. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated and analyzed with simulations data.

In the case of low elevation angle incidence, the ground reflection path influences the target's SNR and makes it fluctuate acutely, sometimes leading to the loss of the target traced by UHF radar. Combined with MUSIC algorithm, the conventional Toeplitz construction method is modified properly to realize the targets' signal detection and high-resolution spectrum estimation in velocity-dimension. In order to reduce the impact of multi-path effect, the correlation analysis based on Fourier Transform is adopted. This method can be used to separate the signal eigen subspace and the noise one by the distance relationship of eigen frequency. It can improve detection of targets and velocity resolution in lower SNR case. Both simulation and the actual data testify the validity of this method.

Optical Interferometry has long been limited by low SNR making it nearly impossible to measure the small visibilities required to make resolved images. Although the SNR exists in the raw data, much SNR is lost in the conventional squared-visibility processing. In modern interferometers fringes are recorded simultaneously at many wavelengths and baselines. This makes phase-referencing possible, which is the key to coherent integration, which in turns can greatly improve the SNR of measurements, making small-amplitude resolving measurements possible. In this paper we will detail the theory of coherent integration. We will also explain why coherent integration should, in most cases, be carried out during post-processing in software rather than in real-time in hardware. We will then compare it to conventional processing approaches for some data from the Navy Optical Interferometer. We will demonstrate how coherent integration can improve the accuracy of observations.

Sensor mobility and sparse sensor data correlations are exploited in this work for the problem of tracking multiple targets. Sparse matrix decomposition is integrated with the design of proper kinematic rules to identify informative sensors, associate them with the targets and enable them to follow closely the moving targets. The modified barrier method is employed to minimize proper error covariance matrices obtained by extended Kalman filtering recursions. Distributed updating recursive rules are obtained enabling only the informative sensors to update their location, and follow closely the corresponding targets while staying connected. This is to be contrasted with existing alternatives where all sensors need to move constantly. Numerical tests corroborate that the proposed scheme outperforms existing alternatives while accurately tracks multiple targets by imposing mobility only on target-informative sensors.

Laser detecting technology can be utilized to the product surface detection for finding the surface deficiency. However, the improving resolving power of laser detecting system is limited by the laser footprint size on the product surface. Employing only echo delay and intensity information, the information of the surface inside the footprint is difficult to be obtained for the echo signal of the objects maybe is submerged by each other. Under the remote laser detecting, the serious loss of image quality may occur because of the large footprint. The product surface detection method based on the single laser return waveform was studied and the provided to get the objects information inside the laser footprint. Firstly, the basis laser echo signal model of the objects inside the footprint was built. On the basis, the decomposition algorithm was provided which can decompose a laser return waveform into a series of components assuming that each component corresponding to a sub-object inside the laser footprint. After the primary sub-target return waveforms was obtained, however, there still exists some small sub-objects inside the laser footprint whose return signal is hardly to be extracted because they are submerged by the neighborhood sub-objects return signal. The subtracting algorithm between the whole return waveform and the components waveform provides the way to get the submerged return waveforms of sub-target. So, the information of sub-objects inside the laser footprint would be obtained. In the end, the actual laser return data of the product surface was analyzed employing the method to get the range position information of the sub-objects inside the laser footprint, which verifies the method validity.

Due to the complex and changeable characteristics of the underwater environment, the low contrast between the weak target and the background in the forward-looking sonar (FLS) image makes conventional target detection algorithms ineffective at detecting weak targets. This paper proposes a high-precision target detection method that effectively combines the k-means clustering algorithm with the optimized Average Absolute Gray difference (AAGD) algorithm to detect weak targets in a high-intensity background noise environment. The proposed method introduces a multidirectional gradient composite window and adaptive threshold to the AAGD algorithm, overcoming the performance attenuation associated with high-intensity sharp edges. By processing the acquisition FLS of the water tank and the lake experiments, the results show that compared with a number of conventional detection algorithms, the algorithm in this paper is less affected by high background noise and can effectively capture more weak targets, confirming the significant performance improvement of the algorithm in weak target detection.
