Separation of the text and graphics layers in maps with dense and overlapping sets of features (e.g. topographic maps) is a challenging problem. Multi Angled Parallelism (MAP) provides an efficient tool to detect miscellaneous linear features using directional morphological operations and higher order feature representation. However, in its original formulation sides of characters, short lines, and parts of lines that pass through characters are often misclassified. This paper presents an improvement over MAP to automatically extract complete line networks with arbitrary orientation and curvature even when they pass through characters with minimal impact on the text content. The resulting text only image can then be processed for text grouping, reorientation, and recognition. The proposed algorithm does not rely on heuristics and can be easily adapted to work with maps of various scales and sources and other line drawing images by adjusting only a small number of parameters.

Acoustic room modeling has several applications. Recent results using large microphone arrays show good performance, and are helpful in many applications. For example, when designing a better acoustic treatment for a concert hall, these large arrays can be used to help map the acoustic environment and aid in the design. However, in real-time applications - including de-reverberation, sound source localization, speech enhancement and 3D audio - it is desirable to model the room with existing small arrays and existing loudspeakers. In this paper we propose a novel room modeling algorithm, which uses a constrained room model and l_(1)-regularized least-squares to achieve good estimation of room geometry. We present experimental results on both real and synthetic data.

In order to measure attitude of small, dim and high-speed targets in shooting range, intersecting system based on multiple high-speed CMOS cameras was introduced in this paper. CMOS cameras were laid near from objects for small size, using multiple CMOS cameras to compose intersecting system for big number of targets tested, and selecting CMOS camera between CMOS and CCD for low cost and considering damage to measurement equipment of objects tested. Pitch angle and yaw angle were measured by extracting axle wire through image processing, image sequences were obtained from cameras laying on two sides. Velocity of objects was calculated by least square curve-fitting, acquiring coordinate of centroid on image received by CMOS camera laying below effective viewing field. One CMOS camera was laid on right ahead for measuring roll angle. Station mode introduced in this paper has virtue of low cost and free extending.

In passive bistatic radar system, both detection and joint estimation of time delay and Doppler shift of target are based on the cross-ambiguity function (CAF) between direct-path signals and target echoes. However, the drawback of this approach is the excessive processing load which is caused by the fast Fourier transforms (FFT) for long input samples. Since the interested frequencies of target often occupy a small portion of the whole frequency range, it only required to analyze the sub-band of the whole frequency. A decimation technique which can decrease the operation complexity was applied to solve this issue. The cascaded integrator-comb filter (CIC filter) theory was briefly introduced, followed by detailed signal processing procedures used to implement the target detection and parameters estimation. This improved algorithm needs several extra steps to decimate the signals, while greatly reduces the overall computation complexity with almost no loss of signal processing gain. Finally, the effectiveness of this proposed algorithm is verified by the real data analysis.

The target detection algorithm based on Independent Component Analysis (ICA) was proposed. The orthogonal subspace projection operator was used to extract the target endmembers and the initialization mixing matrix of the FastõICA was made up of such endmember vectors. This method could solve the ordering randomicity of independent vectors. In this paper, the Noise-Adjusted Principal Component Analysis (NAPCA) was used to reduce the dimensionality of the original data to reduce the calculation. The ICA transformation of the reserved principal components was developed to detect the targets. The experimental results based on AVIRIS hyperspectral imagery have shown that it is more effective than the CEM method.

Sea clutter is the backscattered returns received by a radar system from the sea surface. Maritime radar signal processing has the ability to partially compensate for clutter to achieve effective detection of targets on or near the sea surface. This paper investigates the fit of the compound k-distribution model to sea clutter amplitude statistics, within individual Doppler bins across the Doppler spectra. The data used was recorded with a monostatic coherent X-band radar on an airborne platform; both horizontally and vertically polarized data has been analysed. The statistics of the sea clutter distributions have been evaluated using the probabilities of false alarm (P FA ), which are the calculated from the sea clutter cumulative amplitude distributions. These curves are plotted as a function of detection threshold. K-distributions have been fitted to the P FA of the sea clutter across the Doppler spectrum. The variation of the fitted shape parameter with Doppler bin has been used to identify the relationship between backscattered sea clutter and Doppler. The results show a clear variation with Doppler of the shape parameter obtained from the fitted distribution. The variation is also found to change with polarisation.

Discrepancies can result when creating common data sets consisting of comparable synthetic and measured range complex scattered field samples when the phase references of each do not coincide. This can be especially true when using signal processing techniques to produce one dimensional (range profiles) or two dimensional (Synthetic Aperture Radar or SAR images) representations of the target scattered field where range bins and cross-range bins are formed. Range profiles and SAR images can be misaligned or have different bin amplitudes due to target scatterers in synthetic and measured scenarios shifted with respect to one another. Obtaining equivalent data samples requires attention to the measured data calibration process and phase reference location. This paper will address the common phase reference problem by an analysis of experimental data for specific targets and rotation system. Suggestions are provided for possible solutions to current challenges. The data analysis will include synthetic and measured range data comparisons, range calibration, and target position and range alignment processes using Theodolite laser measurements.

In view of the large and high real-time data transmission in the current strapdown INS, USB interface was integrated into the strapdown INS, and a strapdown inertial navigation real-time data processing system composed of the DSP, FPGA and the USB interface was designed. The system composition and working principle were described; the overall hardware design and software design of the system were introduced, where, the function characteristics and design method of the USB interface based on FT245 were focused on. The design of the system is concision and easy to realize, its cost is low and its size is small. Many experiments verified that the system can effectively accomplish the real-time solution and transmission of the flight posture and displacement information, especially useful for the some INS which requires high-speed data transmission.

We propose a subspace-tracking-based space-time adaptive processing technique for airborne radar applications. By applying a modified approximated power iteration subspace tracing algorithm, the principal subspace in which the clutter-plus-interference reside is estimated. Therefore, the moving targets are detected by projecting the data on the minor subspace which is orthogonal to the principal subspace. The proposed approach overcomes the shortcomings of the existing methods and has satisfactory performance. Simulation results confirm that the performance improvement is achieved at very small secondary sample support, a feature that is particularly attractive for applications in heterogeneous environments.

A novel recognizer that automatically reports the PRI (Pulse Repetition Interval) modulation type of a radar pulse signal is developed. The proposed method utilizes the features based on the properties of PRI sequence for each PRI modulation type both in time and frequency domain. These features are defined as zeros-crossing density, harmonic amplitude ration and sign properties of difference of the PRI sequence, which can be easily extracted from PRI sequences with small samples size. In addition, the proposed method also can be used to estimate the PRI modulation period for the periodic PRI modulation type signals. Simulation results show that the proposed approach is robust in the presence of measurement noises, missing and spurious pulses.
