Uncertainty and Sensitivity Analysis in Aircraft Operating Costs in Structural Design optimization

The paper focuses oil I lie, development of an aircraft design optimization methodology that models uncertainty and sensitivity analysis in the tradeoff between manufacturing cost, structural requirements and aircraft direct operating cost. Specifically rather than only looking at manufacturing cost, direct operating cost is also considered in terms of the impact of weight oil fuel burn, in addition to the acquisition cost to be borne by the operator. Ultimately, there is a tradeoff between driving design according to minimal I weigh I and driving it according to reduced manufacturing cost. The analysis of cost is facilitated with a genetic-causal cost-modeling methodology, and the structural analysis is driven by numerical expressions of appropriate failure modes that use ESDU International reference data. However, a key contribution of the papers to investigate the modeling of uncertainty and to perform a sensitivity analysis to investigate the robustness of the optimization methodology. Stochastic distributions are used to characterize manufacturing cost distributions, and Monte Carlo analysis is performed in modeling the impact of uncertainty on the cost modeling. The results ! re then used in it sensitivity analysis that incorporates the optimization methodology. The addition to investigating manufacturing cost variance, the sensitivity of the optimization to fuel born cost and structural loading are also investigated. It is found that the consideration of manufacturing cost does make I if impact and results in different optimal design configuration front that delivered by the minimal-weight method. However, it was shown that at lower applied loads there is a threshold fuel burn cost at which the optimization process needs to reduce weight, fact this threshold decreases with increasing load. For the job shop on-line scheduling in which the release dates of jobs are stochastic distributed, the hybrid scheduling strategy that integrates the interval rolling mechanism with the key event-driven is introduced. The satisfactory solution can be obtained through iterative optimization by embedding the neighborhood search into the constraint satisfaction solving procedure. The simulation and computational results verified that the scheduling method proposed in the paper can meet the requirements of both efficiency and stability.

This paper discusses an actuarial approach to the option pricing problem for a market model where the interest rates are stochastic and the stock prices are driven by generalized Exp-Omstein-Uhlenback *** to the definition of actuarial pricing approach, the exact solutions of the general European option and the exchange option are obtained with the help of related theory of stochastic differential equation. Then the European call-put parity relation is derived ***,the new prices of European call option and the put option with continuous dividend yield are deduced from the above results At last, a comparative analysis of numerical simulation is made between the above-mentioned results and the B-S pricing formula. All the results are applicable to complex incomplete markets.

Traditionally, cluster computing has employed checkpointing to address fault tolerance. Recently, new models for parallel applications have grown in popularity namely MapReduce and Dryad, with runtime systems providing their own re-execute based fault tolerance mechanisms, but with no analysis of their failure characteristics. Another development is the availability of failure data spanning years for systems of significant size at Los Alamos National Labs (LANL), but the time between failure (TBF) for these systems is a poor fit to the exponential distribution assumed by optimization work in checkpointing, bringing these results into question. The work in this paper describes a discrete event simulation driven by the LANL data and by models of parallel checkpointing and MapReduce tasks. The simulation allows us to then evaluate and assess the fault tolerance characteristics of these tasks with the goal of minimizing the expected running time of a parallel program in a cluster in the presence of faults for both fault tolerance models.

This paper presents a new approach for solving network routing optimization problems. In particular, the goal is to optimize the traffic in the network structured event-driven systems as well as to provide means for efficient adaptation of the system to changes in the environment-i.e. when some nodes and/or links fail. Many network routing optimization problems belong to the class of NP hard problems, which can only be solved by using some heuristic approach. This paper provides a path to an incoming packet much faster than existing routing algorithms. This is basically an AI concept, which is useful to get from the source to the destination. DFS (depth first search) and BFS (breath first search) searching techniques a routing algorithm. DB routing is based on a general-purpose metaheuristic named ant colony optimization, which is a framework for building ant-inspired algorithms. DB is applied as the routing algorithm in a simulated packet-switched point-to-point network. It is investigated whether DB is able to obtain an increase in speed of transmission when packets are sent between two distinct nodes. To this end, it is investigated how prioritizing different heuristics effect the quality of the routing performed. It is concluded that DB behaves differently depending on the relative priority of positive feedback negative feedback and local heuristics, and that it is possible to adjust the parameters to achieve distribution of traffic over several paths when the network is heavily loaded.

The usability problems of CSCW system mainly come from two aspects of limitation. On the higher level, it lacks sufficient simulation of the use-context influenced by social, political and organizational features;on the lower level, it lacks suitable measurement and description of basic collaborative behavior happened in common cooperative activities. However, the traditional task-based user interface models and Discount Usability Inspection methods can not address the above problems. Therefore, an overall framework for describing CSCW system was proposed in this paper from the perspective of usability evaluation. This framework covers all aspects in understanding the use-context, so that it is very helpful to better instruct low-cost usability walkthrough technique in the early stage of software development cycle to detect usability problems.

A stable, sub-nanosecond delay generator is presented. Integrated in conventional low-cost 0.35 mum CMOS technology, the circuit consists of a mirror delay line driven by a dual-loop Delay-Locked Loop (DLL) and a 128-deep analog frame memory. As a practical application of the delay generator, a completely new, high-resolution, Time-to-Digital Converter (TDC) concept is implemented on-chip. A simulated 20 ps resolution is achieved. A delay stability self-characterization mode was also integrated and showed a 1 GHz sine wave sampled at 8 Gs/s.

Statistical analysis is generally seen as the next EDA technology for timing and power sign-off. Research into this field has seen significant activity started about five years ago. Recently, interest appears to have fallen off somewhat. Also, while a lot of focus has been put on research fundamentals, extremely few applications in industry have been reported so far. Therefore, a group including Infineon Technologies as a leading semiconductor IDM and various universities and research institutes, as well as an EDA provider has tackled key challenges to enable statistical design in industry in a publicly funded project called "Sigma65". Sigma65 strives to provide key foundations to allow a change from traditional deterministic design methods to future design methods driven by statistical considerations. The project starts with statistical modeling and optimization of library components and ranges to statistical techniques for designing ICs on gate level and higher levels. In this paper, we present some results of this project, demonstrating how the interaction between industrial perspective, research institutions and EDA provider enables solutions which are applicable already in the near future. After an overview of the industrial perspective of the current situation in dealing with variations recent results on both statistical timing and power analysis will be given. In addition, recent research advances on fast yield estimation concerning parametric timing yield will be given.

Laughing Out Loud: Control for modeling anatomically inspired laughter using audio

We present a novel technique for generating animation of laughter for a character. Our approach utilizes an anatomically inspired, physics-based model of a human torso that includes a mix of rigid-body and deformable components and is driven by Hill-type muscles. We propose a hierarchical control method which synthesizes laughter from a simple set of input signals. In addition, we present a method for automatically creating an animation from a soundtrack of an individual laughing. We show examples of laugh animations generated by hand-selected input parameters and by our audio-driven optimization approach. We also include results for other behaviors, such as coughing and a sneeze, created using the same model. These animations demonstrate the range of possible motions that can be generated using the proposed system. We compare our technique with both data-driven and procedural animations of laughter.

Now the modeling and collaborative simulation of electro-mechanical system is one of hotspots for studies and applications. In this paper, ADAMS, AMESim and Simulink software are selected as the software environment for collaborative simulation of electro-hydraulic system. The functions and characteristic of these softwares are introduced. The hydraulic-driven lift system is taken as an example, the basic sketch for modelling and collaborative simulation of electromechanical system based on the interfaces is discussed, and the realization methods of collaborative simulation using the interfaces are studied. The research is of significance for the collaborative simulation and optimization of complex electromechanical system.
