simulation techniques can provide a resource-driven schedule and answer many hypothetical scenarios before project execution to improve on conventional project management software applications for large-scale construction projects. However, the current process of simulation and optimization of resource utilization is a time consuming process especially for large-scale projects. This study employs High Level Architecture (HLA) to develop distributed agent based simulation models. These models arc composed of several individual modeling components (federates) that can cooperate with each other for the simulation model (interoperability). These federates are developed in a generic way for reuse on future construction projects. A number of agent-based federates are considered for managing various aspects of the project and to enhance the performance of the simulation model. This framework is illustrated using two case studies, module assembly yard and tower crane, that investigate the feasibility of the proposed approach.

FAST (Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope) focus cabin is driven by 6 cables, moving on a spherical cap of similar to 206 meters in diameter. In order to achieve the required pointing accuracy of the telescope by positioning and orienting the receiver properly, X/Y positioner and Stewart manipulator are employed. In addition, reaction mass dampers (RMD) are investigated to depress the cabin's vibrations at high frequencies. In this paper, a simulation model of FAST focus cabin is created. Control simulation is carried out to evaluate control performance of the focus cabin. As a result of this simulation work, X/Y positioner, Stewart manipulator and reaction mass dampers show satisfied performance in compensating the residual position and orientation errors and depressing vibrations. The simulation work approves the feasibility of this engineering concept, and also paves an efficient approach for optimization in the future design work.

The main specific features of high performance scientific simulation consist of obtaining optimal performance levels, sustainability of the codes and models and the use of dedicated architectures. The construction of codes and of the physical phenomena to be simulated requires substantial investments both in terms of human resources and of the experiments required to validate the models. The need for increasingly refined modeling leads to optimization of the performance levels of the codes to obtain simulation results within acceptable calculation times. Finally, the necessary recourse to highly specialized hardware resources adds further constraints to the programming of such software, especially when the lifetime of the codes, often close to 20 years, is compared to that of super computers, in the order of just 4 years. The MDA approach (Model driven Architecture), standardized by the OMG and based on UML 2.0, provides among things a generic method for obtaining a runnable code from a UML model describing a system on several levels of modeling. Its various abstraction mechanisms should make it possible to increase the lifetime of our codes by facilitating the porting operations while at the same time improving performance thanks to the capitalization of good programming practices. MDA technologies have already proved their value in other fields of the computer industry. The sector of real time systems, for example, is based on UML to define a profile specific to their programming constraints (size on the onboard code, limited resources, rapidity of upgrades, etc.). By analogy to these other sectors of the computer industry, we have therefore chosen to adopt the definition of a UML profile specific to the constraints for the development of high performance scientific simulation. Now the modeling and collaborative simulation of electro-mechanical system is one of hotspots for studies and applications. In this paper, ADAMS, AMESim and Simulink software are selected as the software environment for collaborative simulation of electro-hydraulic system. The functions and characteristic of these softwares are introduced. The hydraulic-driven lift system is taken as an example, the basic sketch for modelling and collaborative simulation of electro-mechanical system based on the interfaces is discussed, and the realization methods of collaborative simulation using the interfaces are studied. The research is of significance for the collaborative simulation and optimization of complex electro-mechanical system.

Conventional optical proximity correction (OPC) tools aim to minimize edge placement errors (EPE) due to the optical and resist process by moving mask edges. However, in low-kl lithography, especially at 45nm and beyond, printing perfect polygons is practically impossible to achieve. In addition, prohibitively high mask complexity is incurred, leading to high mask cost. Given the impossibility of perfect printing, we argue that aiming to reduce the error of electrical discrepancy between the ideal and the printed contours is a more reasonable strategy. In fact, we show that contours with non-minimal EPE may result in closer match to the desired electrical performance. Towards achieving this objective, we developed a new electrically driven OPC (ED-OPC) algorithm. The tool combines lithography simulation with accurate electrical modeling of resist contours to predict the on/off current through a transistor gate. The computation of mask edge movements is cast as a linear program based on optical and electrical sensitivities. The objective is to minimize the error in saturation current between printed and target shapes. This optimization is then solved with fast runtime. The results on industrial 45nm SOI layouts using high-NA immersion lithography models show up to a 5% improvement in accuracy of timing over conventional OPC. This is achieved at less than 26% runtime overheads, while also lowering mask complexity by up to 43%. The results confirm that better timing accuracy can be achieved despite larger edge placement error.

Induction machines (IM) are widely employed as actuators in electromechanical driven system, and IMpsilas control problems, the demands of which are to realize energy saving and speed regulation, have become more significant than before. Efficiency and power factor are two crucial indices in energy saving control issues, and to realize economical running with remarkable efficiency and high power factor, optimization of efficiency and power factor are necessary. From the theoretical points of view, the two indices conflicts with each other in a certain conditions and the conventional solutions to these problems can be attributed to steady state optimization by means of rigid calculations, the results of which often lead to neglect of parameterspsila perturbations and lack of adaptation and robustness. Comparing with traditional control decisions, this paper analyses steady state model and dynamical model of IM, indicates that the courses of optimize efficiency and power factor can be regarded as to solve a kind of speed regulation issues with multiple parameters and conditionspsila restrictions, and proposes a new control method on the basis of soft computing. simulation results show two indices follow their optimal points on the conditions of parameterspsila perturbations, and state variablespsila curves approach nearer to the optimal point than PID strategies. It has provided a theoretical support to practical applications.

As the speed gap between memory and disk is so large today, caching and prefetch are critical to enterprise class storage applications, which demands high performance. In this paper, we present our study on performance of a mid-range storage server produced by the Quanta Computer Incorporation. We first analyzed the existing caching mechanism in the server and then developed a fast caching methodology to reduce the cache access latency and processing overhead of the storage controller. In addition, we proposed a new adaptive prefetch scheme reduces the average disk access time seen by the host. Via trace-driven simulation, we evaluated the performance of our new caching and adaptive prefetch schemes. Our results showed the performance improvement for the TPC-C on-line transaction benchmark.

Newborns must learn to structure incoming acoustic information into segments, words, phrases, etc., before they can start to learn language. This process is thought to rely on modulation structure of the speech waveform induced by segmental or prosodic regularities within the speech heard by the infant. Here, we investigate the process by which the initial acoustic processing required by modulation analysis can itself be tuned by exposure to the regularities of speech. Starting from the classic definition of modulation, as applied within channels of the peripheral filter, we formulate a mathematical framework in which the structure of initial spectral filtering is adapted for modulation analysis. Our working hypothesis is that the human ear and brain are adapted to the analysis of modulation, via a data-driven learning process on the scale of development (or possibly evolution). simulation results are presented and a comparison with filterbanks classically used in signal processing is done.
