This study constructed a model of hydraulic-driven flight simulator with explicit hydraulic system, which contained an empirical flow rate model, and different controllers for electro hydraulic servo valve. Periodic heave motion was used to evaluate the performance of the controlled system. The take-off maneuver was also simulated by giving the flight simulator the commanding pitch angle and specific force requirement. Hydraulic-related shortcomings were found and the performance of different controllers were evaluated.

In past years, Amplified Piezoelectric Actuators (APA) have been applied to a variety of industrial applications that take advantage of their quick response and precise positioning capabilities. More recently, APAs have been integrated into valve designs to obtain both rapid and precise proportional flow control. This paper presents the design and measurement results of two gas valves that have recently been developed. The first gas valve uses a small APA that is driven by a switching amplifier to obtain a high frequency modulation. A frequency modulation higher than 400Hz, along with a stroke of 100mum, have been measured. These results show that such a design could be applied to fuel injection systems. The second gas valve is also based on an APA. It includes a linear amplifier and a servo controller to obtain an accurate proportional response dedicated to precise gas flow control. Such valves are interesting for instrumentation and space applications, where they can provide a linear and stable flow control. The low power consumption of the piezoelectric valve in space applications is an additional advantage. A stable flow of dry nitrogen ranging from 0.1 sccm to 200sccm has been measured with an inlet pressure of 1bar. A variety of modeling tools has been used to design these valves: finite element modeling for the electro-mechanical aspects and for the contact mechanics between the poppet and the seat, as well as computational fluid dynamics for the flow simulation. These tools make it possible to modify the valve design in order to meet different requirements and serve other applications.

modeling, optimization, and the realization of an electro-osmotically driven chemical microsynthesis system for Wittig reactions are presented. Essential for good functioning of the chemical liquid reaction system is controllability of the supplied chemicals, independently of the reservoir heights. System analysis turned out to be crucial for designing new improved chips. In the article the main aspects of development are discussed.

simulation-based wafer fabrication optimization models require extensive computational time to obtain accurate estimates of output parameters. This research seeks to develop goal-drivenoptimization methodologies for a variety of semiconductor manufacturing problems using appropriate combinations of "resource-driven" (R-D), "job-driven" (J-D), and Mixed (combination of R-D and J-D) models to reduce simulation run times. The initial phase of this research investigates two issues: a) the use of the R-D simulation control variates for the J-D simulation and b) development of metrics that calibrate the output from the R-D and J-D modeling paradigms. The use of the R-D model as a control variate is proposed to reduce the variance of J-D model output. Second, in order to use the R-D model output to predict the J-D model output, calibration metrics for the R-D and J-D modeling approaches were developed. Initial developments were tested using an M/M/1 queuing system and an M/D/1 queuing system.
