PROMODEL's simulationmodeling products are powerful yet easy-to-use simulation tools for modeling all types of systems and processes. ProModel/spl reg/ is designed to model manufacturing systems ranging from small job shops and machining cells to large mass production, flexible manufacturing systems, and supply chain systems. In this communication we develop models to evaluate the propagation delay of an RC ladder chain driven by a current generator. The model has been used to find the number of stages after which we introduce buffers. Results were compared between the traditional approaches and both optimizations were compared with Spice simulation and a 0.35 /spl mu/m CMOS technology. The optimization based on the proposed model with respect to the traditional approach shows both a lower propagation delay and also the need of a lower number of repeaters, and hence, lower power consumption and silicon area.

This paper presents thermal and mechanical calculations on micro devices driven by electrical heating of a shape memory alloy (SMA). For simulation a program package has been developed to allow coupling of single task Finite Element Method (FEM) -programs in an arbitrary sequence, which enables the calculation and optimization of the performance of complex micro systems [1]. Electrical and thermal calculations are performed with the FEM program Tosca[2], which was extended by the authors to become a time dependent program for thermal analysis. For the mechanical calculation a three dimensional FEM program has been developed, which is based on a two phase model including history effects to describe the shape memory material.

Our earlier work for fast evaluation of power consumption of general cores in a system-on-a-chip described techniques that involved isolating high-level instructions of a core. measuring gate-level power consumption per instruction, and then annotating a system-level simulation model with the obtained data. In this work, we describe a method for speeding up the evaluation further, through the use of instruction traces and trace simulators for every core, nor just microprocessor cores. Our method shows noticeable speedups at an acceptable loss of accuracy, We show that reducing trace sizes can speed up the method even further. The speedups allow for more extensive system-level power exploration and hence better optimization.
