In this work, an efficient procedure to realize electromagnetics-based yield optimization and statistical analysis of microwave structures using space mapping-based neuromodels is proposed. A generalized relationship between the fine and coarse model sensitivities through the Jacobian of the neuromapping is proposed. Our technique is illustrated by the EM-based statistical analysis and yield optimization of an HTS microstrip filter.

Our earlier work for fast evaluation of power consumption of general cores in a system-on-a-chip described techniques that involved isolating high-level instructions of a core, measuring gate-level power consumption per instruction and then annotating a system-level simulation model with the obtained data. In this work, we describe a method for speeding up the evaluation further, through the use of instruction traces and trace simulators for every core, not just microprocessor cores. Our method shows noticeable speedups at an acceptable loss of accuracy. We show that reducing trace sizes can speed up the method even further. The speedups allow for more extensive system-level power exploration and hence better optimization.

Summary form only given, as follows. Capsule radiation symmetry is a crucial issue in the design of the z-pinch driven hohlraum approach to high-yield inertial confinement fusion. Capsule symmetry may be influenced by the power imbalance of the two z-pinch X-ray sources, and by hohlraum effects (geometry, time-dependent albedo, wall motion). 2-D and 3-D radiosity ("viewfactor") models have been used to design hohlraums that optimize the capsule radiation symmetry for experiments on Z as well as for high-yield targets. The goals of capsule symmetry experiments on Z include commissioning the Z-beamlet backlighter laser and requisite initial imaging detectors, measuring capsule flux asymmetry at the several percent level, and demonstrating understanding of the factors influencing capsule asymmetry in z-pinch hohlraums. Design and simulation efforts have focused on: (a) hohlraum radiation transport models to determine the sensitivity of capsule flux asymmetry to hohlraum geometry, top-bottom pinch power imbalance, and pinch mistiming, (a) 2-mm diameter, 60-/spl mu/m thick plastic shells designed to implode within 10 ns after the secondary hohlraum reaches its peak drive temperature of 75-85 eV, providing a suitable target for initial experiments at lower backlighting energies (2.5-3 keV), (b) 3- to 5-mm diameter thin (20-40 /spl mu/m) Ge-doped plastic shells designed for backlighting with Ti K-shell X-rays to assess symmetry early in the capsule implosion, and (c) uniform density foam spheres (/spl sim/50-100 mg/cc) also designed for Ti backlighting to image the trajectory of the shock/ablation front feature throughout the drive pulse. We present the results of postprocessed 1- and 2-D radiation-hydrodynamics calculations for each type of symmetry target, describing their advantages and disadvantages, and show comparisons with preliminary experimental data.

ProModel is a Windows based application with an intuitive graphical interface and object-oriented modeling constructs that eliminate the need for programming. It combines the flexibility of a general-purpose simulation language with the convenience of a data-driven simulator. The ProModel optimization Suite includes an optimization tool called SimRunner that performs sophisticated `what-if' analysis by running automatic factorial design of experiments on the model, providing the best answer possible. This paper provides an overview of the ProModel optimization Suite and presents ts modeling, analysis, and optimization capabilities.

A modeling method that allows one to rapidly build data driven models for nonlinear components is discussed. The models are constructed from input/output time domain data and their "embeddings". The notion of models built from embeded data is described in the Taken's Embedding Theorem and has been extensively explored for modeling autonomous systems in the physics liteature. The authors extend these results to nonautonomous systems by creating tools that allow engineers to rapidly build models for driven nonlinear components. These models can be used in simulation, process control, diagonostics, and sensor calibration. We present the results of applying nonlinear modelling techniques to the modelling of measurements taken from a Nonlinear Network Measurement Systems (NNMS). A comparison is made between reconstructed polynomial models and radial basis models. © 2000 IEEE.

In this paper, we introduce a discrete-time model for the complete power supply sub-system that closely approximates the behavior of its circuit-level (i.e., HSpice), continuous-time counterpart. The model is abstract and efficient enough to enable event-driven simulation of digital systems described at a very high level of abstraction and that include, among their components, also the power supply. Therefore, it can be successfully used for the purpose of battery life-time estimation during design optimization, as shown by the results we have collected on a meaningful case study. Experiments prove also that the accuracy of our model is very close to that provided by the corresponding Spice-level model.

We provide new derivative formulas of the steady-state performance cost for a class of CPN (Closed Queuing Network) defined on an admissible policy set. Three fundamental quantities, performance potentials, realization factors and group inverse of the infinitesimal generator involved in the derivative formulas are given. Some simulation-based algorithms are used to estimate these performance potentials by analyzing a single sample path of CQN, and the two main methods, parallel matrix computation and CRN, are introduced to calculate these quantities. The algorithm of the optimal service policy to minimize the performance cost is obtained by using a parallel stochastic optimization method driven by a performance potential-based gradient estimate.

This paper presents an optimal design approach based on the popular realistic field simulator Numerical Electromagnetic Code (NEC) and the effective real coded Emperor-Selective genetic algorithm (EMS-GA) for automatic antenna design optimisation. In this approach, the chromosomes used in EMS-GA are directly coded with real number geometrical dimensions. The geometrical input data for NEC is automatically generated and the electromagnetic response is also automatically simulated. The results are linked with the EMS-GA optimiser for optimisation of the desired parameters. As an example and a real engineering application, a special corner reflector antenna driven by a Yagi-Uda array is designed by the NEC/EMS-GA approach. Compared to the traditional Yagi-Uda, the designed antenna has much lower side lobe level (SLL) with better immunity to interference and may find applications in wireless communication and TV reception.
