""An evolution driven controller design approach has been applied to a rigid-body aircraft model of a light sport aircraft. The model comprises inertial, aerodynamic and flight dynamics related elements and the controller architecture is based on Classical Control Theory. The evolution driven concept plays a significant role in the optimization of the proposed controller structure by providing tuned controller parameters, which meet the designed fitness function criteria imposed through the optimization problem formulation. The proposed fitness function combines significant controller stability evaluation conditions into a single abstraction. The use of a robust optimization framework based on the genetic algorithms has allowed the suggested form of multi-criteria optimization definition. The suitability of the evolutionary optimization has been successfully tested on a model with rigid-body aircraft dynamics. Time-domain simulation results have shown the compliance of the tuned controller performance with its anticipated behavior.""

This paper addresses several important problems in a typical power system driven by battery/supercapacitor hybrid energy storage devices. The currents in the battery and the supercapacitor are actively controlled by two bidirectional buck-boost converters. Detailed investigation is conducted on deriving two state-space averaged models for the whole interconnected system. The control objective is to track the references of two variables. The control design problem is converted into a numerically efficient optimization problem with linear matrix inequality (LMI) constraints. When the optimization algorithm is applied to an experimental system, the resulting optimal control law is very close to a simple integrator control (with two inputs and two outputs). The simple integrator control is applied to the system in both simulation and experiment. The results confirm the effectiveness of the modeling and control design methods.

The economic environmental load dispatch problem in power networks aims at producing electricity at the lowest financial and environmental costs. In this paper, we propose a novel real-time dynamic data driven adaptive multi-scale simulation framework (RT-DDDAMS) for efficient real-time dispatching of electricity. The framework includes 1) a discovery procedure where the network is split into sub-networks and prospective fidelities are identified, 2) an RT-DDDAMS platform involving algorithms for state estimation, fidelity selection, and multi-objective optimization alongside with a system simulation;and 3) databases for storing sub-network topologies, fidelities, and selective measurements. The best compromise load dispatch obtained from this framework is then sent to the considered power network for deployment. The proposed framework is illustrated and validated via a modified IEEE-30 bus test system. The experiments reveal that the proposed framework significantly reduces the computational resource usages needed for the reliable power dispatch without compromising the quality of the solutions.

A microvalve actuated by magnetic fluid and electromagnets drive is presented. The working principle of this microvale is using a volume of magnetic fluid driven by four electromagnets as a spool. By changing the on/off order of the electromagnets, the direction of liquid flow can be changed, and the flow rate can be controlled by adjusting the electricity. A detailed description of the design has been introduced and modeled by ANSYS software. The influence of magnetic field strength to sectional area is analyzed;the simulated result shows that 40mT of magnetic field is optimization. The influence of magnetic field strength to flow rate is analyzed both;the simulation result shows that with the change of magnetic field strength, the size of channel formed by magnetic fluid and the wall of pipeline is changing instantly, and the flow rate of liquid will also be changed.

The yarn production is a very complex industrial process, and the relation between the spinning variables and the yarn properties has not been established conclusively so far. However, the existing process cases which were recorded to ensure the ability to trace production steps can also be used to control the process itself. This paper presents a novel process simulation model with data driven approaches such as case based reasoning and support vector machine hybrid algorithms for optimization of complex spinning parameters. The process simulaiton model is able to predict the yarn properties through continually self-learning, which can help the yarn producer to make the best process decision The applied cases are demonstrated that the intelligent system for the solving the hard problem of complex process control is promising.

Quantitative ranking of different operating areas and assessment of uncertainty due to reservoir heterogeneities are crucial elements in optimization of production and development strategies in oil sands operations. Although detailed compositional simulators are available for recovery performance evaluation for SAGD, the simulation process is usually deterministic, cumbersome, expensive (manpower and time consuming), and not quite suitable for real-time decision making and forecasting. In this paper, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is employed as a data-drivenmodeling alternative to predict SAGD recovery performance in heterogeneous reservoirs, an important application that is lacking in existing literature. In this study, numerical flow simulations are performed to construct a training data set consists of various attributes describing characteristics associated with reservoir heterogeneities and relevant production/injection parameters with the corresponding recovery factor as output. The network is trained using the data set to identify all significant patterns and relationships that exist between these attributes and the output parameters. The model is then tested using a verification data set (cases that have not been used at the training stage). Sensitivity studies on network configurations are also investigated. In addition, new modifications are proposed to identify and reduce extrapolations in predictions, which are often considered as major drawbacks in most data-drivenmodeling approaches. The approach described in this paper can be integrated directly into most existing reservoir management routines. In addition, the technique can be used as a viable tool for analyzing large amount of competitor data efficiently. Given that robust forecasting and optimization of heavy oil recovery processes is a major challenge faced by the industry, the proposed research has great potential to be applied in other recovery projects such as solvent-additive steam injecti
