A novel compact LED array based light induced fluorescence (LIF) sensor has been developed for real-time in-line monitoring of intrinsic fluorophores in the solid and liquid state. The sensor is essential for on-the-spot, routine, and cost effective real-time analysis. The sensor is designed to provide real-time emission response along with various smart sensing parameters to ensure real-time measurement quality that is required for regulated GMP process monitoring applications. This work describes a LIF sensor tailored for solid-phase fluorometry. Fundamental figures of merit, excitation overexposure and smart sensing features required for modern process monitoring and control are discussed within the context of pharmaceutical solid-phase manufacturing and similar applications.

We demonstrate a simple low-power, magnetic sensor system suitable for high-sensitivity magnetic-field mapping, based on solid-state magnetic tunnel junction devices with minimum detectable fields in a 100 pT range at room temperature. In this paper, we discuss a method that uses multilayer thin films to improve the performance of the soft ferromagnetic layer in magnetoresistive sensorapplications, by reducing the coercivity and/or improving the reversibility. We have used it in the design of our new magnetic sensor. This sensor has a sensitivity as high as 750%/mT. The magnetic sensor only dissipates 1 mW of power while operating under an applied voltage of 1 V.

This paper gives a survey of both the design and essential properties of newly developed pyroelectric linear arrays made on the basis of lithium tantalate (LiTaO3). There are up to 256 pixels with a minimum pitch of 50 mu m. The detector is a hybrid arrangement of pyroelectric detector chip and 0.8 mu m CMOS read-out circuit in a hermetic metal housing. Thanks to the development of a new black coating technology the thermal resolution and the homogeneity of the spectral responsivity have been permanently improved. The absorption layer consists of a columnar NiCr thin film. It is deposited using a special GLAD technology in high vacuum. The band absorption coefficient in the wavelength range 1 ... 15 mu m is about 0.9 for a layer with a thickness of about 1 mu m. The NiCr absorption layer has very low thermal mass and high temperature stability. It can be patterned by lift-off technology. The measurement results demonstrate the excellent homogeneity of the spectral responsivity and the improvement of the signal-to-noise ratio of the linear arrays.
