Spinel, orthoferrite, garnet, and hexagonal are the various forms of ferrites. They exhibit different properties due to their different molecular structures. Cobalt ferrite (CF) is a spinel ferrite. They show magnetic, dielectric, optical, catalytical, and antibacterial properties. The CF nanoparticles (NPs) are extensively used in various field e.g., electronics and telecommunication, environmental sciences, biomedical applications, and catalysis, to name but a few. These materials can be doped to modify their properties so that they can be used for desired applications. Several methods have been developed for the doping of these materials e.g., sol-gel, co-precipitation, hydrothermal heating, microwave hydrothermal heating, auto-combustion, ball milling, and microemulsion. Sol-gel method is widely used for this purpose as this does not require complex laboratory infrastructure and hence cost effective. Particles of narrow size distribution can also be synthesised under ambient or at lower temperatures. Here, the doping of CF-NPs with first transition series has been reviewed. The comparable ionic sizes of cobalt and iron, and ions of first transition series, help the process of doping. Doping of CF-NPs with first transition series changes their properties in several ways e.g., the size of crystals and Curie temperature can be altered by doping with scandium, titanium, and chromium. Values of coercivity and saturation magnetization can also be modified by doping this material with zinc, nickel, and copper. Anisotropy also changes when CF-NPs are doped with the above said elements. CF-NPs with altered properties have significant applications e.g., zinc-doped can be used for stress sensor applications. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The paper presents a $\text{Sc}_{0.096}\mathrm{A}1_{0.904}\mathrm{N}$ -based bimorph piezoelectric micromachined ultrasonic transducers (PMUT) and its liner array with 100 elements for medical imaging applications. The PMUT is fabricated using the Sco $_{0.96}\mathrm{A}1_{0.904}\mathrm{N}$ -based bimorph with thickness of 500nm, respectively. The diameter of PMUT is $120\mu \mathrm{m}$ , of which the center frequency is 1.9MHz. The 3D models are simulated to analysis the resonant frequency, the central displacement, the electrical impedance and the crosstalk response in frequency domain. The active area of the PMUT liner array has a dimension of $150\mu\mathrm{m}$ in both width and length. The phased liner array is simulated using 3D FEM simulation models where the focus depth can be adjusted by the excited signals. Our works validate the bimorph PMUT and its array, thereby accelerating the development of the phased array in medical imaging.

The integration of magneto‐resistive sensors into eddy current probes can significantly expand the capabilities of conventional eddy current nondestructive evaluation techniques. The room temperature solid‐state sensors have typical bandwidths in the megahertz range and resolutions of tens of microgauss. The low frequency sensitivity of magneto‐resistive sensors has been capitalized upon in previous research to fabricate very low frequency eddy current sensors for deep flaw detection in multilayer conductors. In this work a modified probe design is presented to expand the capabilities of the device. The new probe design incorporates a dual induction source enabling operation from low frequency deep flaw detection to high frequency high resolution near surface material characterization. applications of the probe for the detection of localized near surface conductivity anomalies are presented. Finite element modeling of the probe is shown to be in good agreement with experimental measurements.

NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) is a leader and has pioneered technologies related to the development of 2-micron laser transmitters. Using a co-doped Ho,Tm:LiYF/sub 4/ crystal laser, NASA LaRC researchers have demonstrated up to 600 mJ of 2-micron energy. Recently, a 2 micron power oscillator at room temperature was demonstrated for a possible Space Shuttle mission.

A hybrid microelectronics solid state relay was developed in a TO-116 package for the MINX project. The relay provides 2500 V dc input to output isolation and operated from a MHTL logic signal to switch a load of 400 V dc at 2 mA. The relay is designed to operate in space and survive 1000 thermal cycles of -120° C to 80° C. The use of X-rays for failure analysis in small hybrid circuits proved valuable and the applications of vacuum deposited Parylene 1 as a dielectric coating proved extremely valuable.

Electric vehicle battery chargers, solar-panel inverters, industrial power monitoring, and many other high voltage applications rely on magnetic sensors for contactless current sensing over shunt-based sensors due to inherent galvanic isolation [1-4]. Within magnetometers, integrated fluxgate (IFG) sensors provide nT resolution versus μT accuracy of Hall sensors [1-4]. To linearize IFG response, magnetic fields are balanced out in the core using large compensation currents at high fields, making them power hungry (>100mW for 2mT) [1,2]. Previous IFG sensors were designed for continuous operation at high sampling rates, but with long initial convergence time (200μs), preventing them from being duty cycled efficiently to reduce average power consumption at lower BW [2,5]. High power is prohibitive for many low-BW and coreless applications [6,7] that use an array of IFG sensors to achieve stray field rejection in order to save area, cost, and installation effort.

This paper presents a two-chip front-end for bulk-silicon MEMS accelerometer applications. The front-end consists of two custom ASICs designed and optimized for high-precision applications. One of two ASICs is an interface chip, serving to detect the change of the differential capacitance of the sensor and convert it into voltage. The other ASIC is a 12-bit ADC which converts the output of the interface ASIC into digital code. Based on the proposed front-end, a second-order delta-sigma closed-loop MEMS accelerometer prototype is implemented to demonstrate the proposed front-end. A back-end algorithm is implemented in a FPGA to stabilize the closed loop. The FPGA generates a 1-bit data stream as the output of the accelerometer, which is sent to the interface ASIC as the feedback of the closed-loop system. Designed and fabricated in a 0.18 um process with high voltage options, the interface ASIC measures the sensitivity of 750 mV/pF and the ADC measures the effective number of bits of 9.3 bits. The closed-loop accelerometer achieves a noise floor of -80 dBg/√Hz and maximum input acceleration of ±2 g.

Laser-triangulation-based surface mapping has been used in a limited number of applications for many years, both for reverse engineering and manufacturing diagnostics. The history of these systems is outlined. Machines are becoming available that can be used to accurately scan small to medium size parts, generate a dense surface map of the part shape, and create a CAD data file describing the part in the form of splines or geometric primitives. Examples of currently available laser triangulation systems that are applicable to electronics product and reverse engineering are presented, along with a description of their specifications, limitations, and potential for future development.< >

A 0.8V 64×64 CMOS Image sensor (CIS) array with integrated sense-and-stimulus (SAS) pixel is presented in this paper. The in-pixel photon-to-biphasic-current converter (sense) and balanced current-mode stimulator (stimulus) are proposed to achieve a high integration and low power solution for high-resolution vision recovery. Two operation modes as programming (PG) mode and implanted (IP) mode are integrated in this design for multiple purposes. In PG mode, the output pattern of current stimulator array is programmable with external addresses for patterned electrical stimulus experiments of retina. In IP mode, the chip is fully functional with minimized number of I/O as 4 optimized for implant operation. A 64×64 SAS pixel array with 30×30 um 2 pixel size has been designed and fabricated in TSMC 0.18um CIS technology. Measurement results show a 0.01uA/lux conversion gain and the maximum driving capability of biphasic neural stimulation current pulse is 10μA with a 10kΩ electrode model. It achieves the highest array resolution as 4096 pixels operated at 0.8V, 19.5fps, and 9.6mW.
