We focus on generating consistent reconstructions of indoor spaces from a freely moving handheld RGB-D sensor, with the aim of creating virtual models that can be used for measuring and remodeling. We propose a novel 6D RGB-D odometry approach that finds the relative camera pose between consecutive RGB-D frames by keypoint extraction and feature matching both on the RGB and depth image planes. Furthermore, we feed the estimated pose to the highly accurate KinectFusion algorithm, which uses a fast ICP (Iterative-Closest-Point) to fine-tune the frame-to-frame relative pose and fuse the Depth data into a global implicit surface. We evaluate our method on a publicly available RGB-D SLAM benchmark dataset by Sturm et al. The experimental results show that our proposed reconstruction method solely based on visual odometry and KinectFusion outperforms the state-of-the-art RGB-D SLAM system accuracy. Our algorithm outputs a ready-to-use polygon mesh (highly suitable for creating 3D virtual worlds) without any post-processing steps.

In general, video-based learning contains rich media information, but displaying an entire video linearly is time-consuming. As an alternative, video summarization techniques extract important content provides short but informative fragments. In this paper, a video learning platform (KVSUM: Keyword-based Video Summarization) is presented that integrates image processing, text summarization, and keyword extraction techniques. Without human annotators, the learning platform can process an input video and transform it into online learning materials automatically. The video frames are first split from a given video while the transcription is used to generate the text summary and keywords. In the current study, the video surrogates are composed of extracted keywords, text and video summaries, and video frames. In other words, KVSUM is able to provide both visual and verbal surrogates. In order to validate the effect of surrogates in the KVSUM, a comparison with another video surrogate, the fast forward (FF), to evaluate learners' comprehension to video contents. Sixty undergraduate students took part in examining two different video surrogates. The experimental results show that KVSUM had a more positive effect than FF in comprehension to videos. In terms of system usage and satisfaction, KVSUM is significantly more attractive than FF to learners.

There are several techniques to conceal the secret information inside Cover objects;steganography is the one of them. Steganography is the art of invisible communication by concealing information inside other information. images are the most popular cover objects for steganography. The BPCS steganography which stands for bit-plane complexity segmentation is the technique to hide secret information in some other data (carrier) with better visual imperceptibility. This technique uses the "noise-like" regions in the bit planes of the cover image to hide secret data without deteriorating the image quality. With this technique we can hide 50-60% of secrete data in the cover image. To embed the secret information inside images requires intensive computations, and therefore, the technique is implemented in an FPGA to increase the processing speed. This work presents a hardware implementation of bit-plane complexity segmentation (BPCS) steganography technique in Xilinx Spartan 3E FPGA family. To access the bit wise data on FPGA Baud rate can cause the delay.

The question of the neural bases of computation processing is a highly debated topic and from a functional point of view, solving computation-based problems is a complex cognitive skill requiring numbers to be held and manipulated on a short-term representational medium while the dedicated resolution algorithm is applied. This study used a 3T fMRI system with BOLD contrast sequences to explore the brain activation differences between the abacus-based experts and the normal subjects through three designed problem paradigms: the covert reading, one-digit and two-digit contiguous additions. All the acquired data were analyzed by using SPM99 software and a MNI template. From the study results, several basic and complex cognitive processes observed in the two groups were fairly consistent, because they all required numerical numbers to be held and manipulated through visual imagery procedures while applying their individual resolution algorithm. However, in the abacus experts, one unique area was observed at nucleus (putamen) area, suggesting control of voluntary movement in cognitive process was involved in mental computation. And also, after a long time training and practice, the experts might modify (or buildup) their cognitive processes involving in computations through a more effective calculation network. They tended to use simple memory retrieval procedure to deal with certain parts of complex processes in mental computations, by performing all the computation steps through finger-manipulating the abacus beads (in control of voluntary movement) from a virtual abacus (a traditional Chinese calculator).

Although manipulations of visual and aural media have been around for as long as there have been media, the relatively recent introduction of deep fakes has marked a turning point in the creation of fake information. Deep fakes are automated methods that allow the creation of fake information that is becoming increasingly difficult for human observers to see. These procedures are made possible by the most recent technological advancements in artificial intelligence and deep learning. Deep Learning is a powerful method that is now being implemented in a variety of industries, including natural language processing, computer vision, image processing, and machine vision. Deep fakes are created by the use of deep learning algorithms in order to synthesize and modify photos, videos, or sounds of a person, to the point that human people are unable to discern the fake from the real one. In this article, we present a workable description of deep fakes as well as an outline of the technology that lies underneath them. In order to assist people in thinking about the future of deep fakes, we outline the benefits of the deepfake as well as the potential threats. This study presents a complete analysis of deep fake methods and discusses the most effective strategies for preventing counterfeiting.

We summarize our methods for the fusion of multisensor imagery based on concepts derived from neural models of visual processing and pattern learning and recognition. These methods have been applied to real-time fusion of night vision sensors in the field, airborne multispectral and hyperspectral imaging systems, and space-based multiplatform multimodality sensors. The methods enable color fused 3D visualization, as well as interactive exploitation and data mining in the form of human-guided machine learning and search for targets and cultural features. Over the last year we have developed a user-friendly system integrated into a COTS exploitation environment known as ERDAS Imagine. We demonstrate fusion and interactive mining of low-light Visible/SWIR/MWIR/LWIR night imagery, and IKONOS multispectral imagery. We also demonstrate how target learning and search can be enabled over extended operating conditions by allowing training over multiple scenes. This is illustrated for detecting small boats in coastal waters using fused Visible/MWIR/LWIR imagery.

Like other countries, the Philippines uses various license plate standards wherein some purely text while some are hybrid graphic-text plates. And to harness its generalizability, this study developed a classification algorithm utilized as a pre-processing scheme for the multi-standard license plate. With an input image captured at a different perspective, it was feed into the neural network and classify as Rizal monument series (2001 base and 2003 base), 2014 series and conduction sticker for new vehicles. In total, there are 303 different images captured for this study. Around 100 conduction sticker images, 103 Rizal Monument images, 100 black and white images. Furthermore, this study focused on using transfer learning technique, wherein a trained network utilized, then only the last layer was reset and retrained on the new dataset. To measure the performance of the classification model and optimized it cross-entropy and stochastic gradient descent was employed respectively at a learning rate of 0.001 and reduced by 10 for every seven (7) epochs. The progression of accuracy results in increasing the epochs, and for the 25 epochs, the training completed in 4 minutes and 7 seconds with the best validation accuracy of 82.61%.

The 2019 new coronavirus (COVID-19), which originally surfaced in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019, expanded quickly, and caused a pandemic. It has created a terrible influence on daily lives, public health, and the global economy. To stop the pandemic from spreading further and to treat the affected individuals as soon as feasible, it is essential to identify positive cases as soon as possible. One of the primary issues in the present COVID-19 pandemic is the early detection and diagnosis of COVID-19, as well as the precise separation of non-COVID-19 cases at the lowest cost and in the early stages of the disease. This study compares the usage of the most recent Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), a deep learning methodology employing networks, with a transfer learning technique using VGG and ResNet. With their assistance, we created models that can recognize COVID-19 in X-Ray photos. We have applied techniques of image preprocessing using Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) and Adaptive Histogram Equalization (AHE). We built the model by applying CNN. We have also applied transfer learning techniques using visual Geometry Group (VGG16) and Residual Network (ResNet50) after image preprocessing using CLAHE and AHE. We have compared the accuracy of all models. The CLAHE technique along with ResNet50 works well as we achieve an accuracy of 0.99 It can be stated that ResNet50 with CLAHE played a very significant role in determining the covid-19 in X-ray images. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) has gained widespread recognition and popularity in image processing due to its ability of capturing energy of signal in a few energy transform value. As well as it has also ability to underline and represent time-varying spectral properties of many transient and other nonstationary signals. In DWT denoising is done only in detail coefficient, this offer advantage of smoothness and adaption. However DWT has a lack of shift invariance. This shift-variance is a major problem with the use of DWT for transient signal analysis and pattern recognition applications. Denoising of images with the DWT some time also give visual artifacts due to Gibbs phenomena in neighbourhood of discontinuities. In this paper, a shift-invariant analysis scheme is proposed for removing of additive Gaussian noise in stationary image. An investigation has been made on discrete wavelet transform with shift invariant in terms of PSNR and visual performance.
