In the realm of digital image processing and enhancement, the relentless pursuit of achieving higher perceptual quality in noise-suppressed images has remained a compelling challenge. This abstract presents a novel approach that leverages the synergy between adaptive recursion and a sophisticated image transformation model to magnify the perceptual quality of noise-suppressed digital images. The proliferation of digital imagery in various applications, from medical diagnostics to multimedia content, necessitates the development of advanced techniques to preserve and enhance image fidelity. While noise suppression techniques have made significant strides in reducing unwanted artifacts, they often introduce trade-offs between noise reduction and preservation of image details. Our proposed method begins by employing adaptive recursion, where the image is divided into local regions, each analyzed independently for noise characteristics and visual features. Adaptive recursion ensures that noise reduction is applied selectively, preserving important image details, even in challenging scenarios. The synergy between adaptive recursion and the image transformation model is a key highlight of our approach. By iteratively applying the transformation model within each local region, we adaptively enhance image features that contribute to perceptual quality, such as sharpness, contrast, and color fidelity. This adaptive enhancement process ensures that image details are magnified while suppressing noise artifacts, ultimately resulting in images of superior perceptual quality. Our experimental results, conducted on diverse datasets with various levels of noise, demonstrate significant improvements in perceptual quality compared to state-of-the-art methods. Additionally, we evaluate the computational efficiency of our approach, highlighting its feasibility for real-time and high-throughput image enhancement applications.

Previously we presented an unsupervised self-organizing map (SOM) for segmentation of the breast region in screening mammograms. This study improves upon our earlier technique by (1) enhancing the detection of the breast region near the skin line, as well as (2) reducing the computational complexity. Contrary to the initial technique, the improved one exploits global image properties extracted at different scales. These properties were used to both generate the SOM training samples and obtain a preliminary segmentation. Subsequently, a multi-step strategy was implemented to automatically outline a wide band around the skin line for further analysis. This additional step reduces the computational complexity by focusing the analysis on the set of pixels that creates clinically the highest ambiguity. Specifically, the same (already trained) SOM was applied to classify the ambiguous pixels around the skin line. The study was performed on 400 screening mammograms from the digital database for screening mammography (DDSM). visual examination of the segmentation results confirmed an improvement in the detection of the low-contrast region near the skin line. The performance was consistent regardless of mammographic view and/or breast density. Furthermore, the computational cost of processing can be reduced by up to 80% of the original value.

The eddy‐current testing technique gives a new skill for inspection of bare printed circuit board (PCB). The combination of the high‐sensitive micro eddy‐current testing (ECT) probe and the image processing technique enables us to inspect defect (disconnection, and chipping crack) on the trace of bare PCB. This paper deals with the structure of the probe and characteristics to apply the ECT approach to the inspection of high‐density PCB. We proposed the ECT probes of the meander coil (transmitter) and Spin‐Valve Giant Magnetoresistance sensor(receiver). The high frequency excitation up to 5 MHz enables us to detect the disconnection on the trace of less than 100 μm width and 35 μm thickness.

This study presents a cost-effective approach to constructing simulation systems by integrating 2D visual processing with neural network technology for simultaneous 3D point cloud generation and part segmentation, thereby reducing time and costs. We propose multiple task-specific models using 2D RGB images, incorporating attention mechanisms, feature encoding, decoding layers, and innovative loss functions. The optimal models are merged to form an integrated system, evaluated using public and self-built datasets. Our experiments demonstrate that the integrated model effectively reduces training time and Floating Point Operations (FLOP) values while maintaining high accuracy in Critical Hole Distance (CHD), Earth Mover’s Distance (EMD), and Intersection over Union (IOU) metrics. This advancement enhances applications in military training, aerospace technology, and disaster response simulation, facilitating faster 3D object construction.

The proposed paper aims to model the non-verbal interactions that occur during a computer-mediated music composition process between pupils in primary school within a collaborative framework. The socio-cultural approach, drawn from Vygotsky's theoretical context, is being further developed and some of its aspects are outlined and used as a framework to further understand the collaborative processes that occur during collaborative learning. The latter is achieved by identifying effective peer's verbal and non-verbal interactions in a collaborative computer-based music composition environment (CCMCE).The present paper aims to explore and model children's patterns of body language signs which contribute to measure peer's active and passive collaborative learning in CCMCE. Experimental results from a case study in a primary state school in Greece promise to yield important cues for peer's thinking, concentration and mental processing that will be useful to anyone engaged in examining children's computer-mediated collaborative interactions.

In this paper, a novel steganographic method based on joint photographic expert-group (JPEG) is proposed. The proposed method embeds two secret bits into each middle frequency coefficient using the least two-significant bits (2- LSBs). For the rest coefficients, the quantization error, resulting from processing the JPEG-compressed image, is compensated while embedding variable-length secret bits. At last, a JPEG stego-image is generated using the quality factor with the value of 100. Experimental results show that, the proposed steganographic method can provide a high information hiding capacity and keep the visual quality well.

We present a computational model of contour processing that was suggested by neurophysiological recordings from the monkey visual cortex. The model employs convolutions and nonlinear operations, but no feedback loops. Contours are defined by the local maxima of the responses of a contour operator that sums a representation of contrast borders and a "grouping signal". The grouping consists in convolving a representation of "key points", such as T-junctions, corners, and line ends, with a set of orientation selective kernels, and a nonlinear pairing operation. The grouping scheme is selective according to whether the configuration of key points is consistent with the interpretation of occlusion. The resulting contour representation includes an indicator of figure ground direction. We show: that the model reproduces illusory contours in accurate agreement with perception; and generates representations of occluding contours on images of natural scenes that are more complete and less cluttered by spurious connections of foreground and background than those obtained by conventional edge detection operators.

Electronic holography is an ideal 3D display technique to ameliorate vergence-accommodation conflict, which is a possible cause of visual fatigue and discomfort from viewing conventional stereoscopic 3D displays. Previous studies have measured accommodative and vergence responses to holographic images and real objects, and reported that they are in good agreement. To demonstrate the effectiveness of electronic holography as a solution of vergence-accommodation conflict caused by viewing conventional stereoscopic 3D displays, we measured accommodative and vergence responses to reconstructed images of holograms and two-view stereoscopic images. We also measured responses to real objects located at various distances as a baseline condition. The results indicate that the accommodative response to the electro-holographic display changes with the vergence response in a similar manner, as is the case with real objects as compared to conventional two-view stereo display. This suggests that the holographic display technology is a promising candidate for resolving the vergence-accommodation conflict.

The Content Based image retrieval (CBIR) is a very important for retrieving the most visual relevant images from the large image database. The various low level features are extracted based on their visual content which are color, shape, texture etc. The paper gives the overview of color and texture feature extraction techniques like color histogram, color correlogram, color co-occurrence matrix and tamura texture feature, steerable pyramid, wavelet transform, Gabor wavelet transform respectively and also the comparative analysis of this techniques is shown in the paper.
