In this paper, a (k, n)visual secret sharing scheme using Boolean and shift operations that provides high security to the secret image is designed. An algorithm is proposed to encode the original secret image to generate n share images using simple Boolean XOR and circular shift operations. The secret data cannot be revealed with any k - 1 or less number of share images. The security is provided to the original secret by encrypting this secret with a random image and distinct authentication id used for each share during generation of shares. The size of generated share images is same as that of original image and requires no pixel expansion. The proposed scheme eliminates security issues observed in the related techniques. Experimental results confirm the feasibility and security of the proposed technique.

image steganography is a smart technique of embedding the secret information into the cover image without any visual loss. As fractal image represents self-similar patterns, more number of bits can be embedded. A color palette based image steganography algorithm for the iterated Julia-set fractal image is proposed. The color palette is created and sorted based on the illumination values of the pixels. The palette is being scanned for embedding the secret bit, and the palette index is modified based on the secret bit's value. For improving the robustness of the algorithm, a random pixel selection technique is suggested and implemented effectively. The proposed algorithm gives maximum peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR), up to the number 61, and Normalized Correlation (NC) of 0.999 for approximately 50 images.

One of the main problem of the optical imaging systems is limited depth of field which prevent from obtaining an all-in-focus image of the environment. This paper proposes a novel pixel-based multi-focus image fusion method making use of a series of multi-focus images to obtain an all-in-focus image. The proposed method, firstly, generate a focus map over the edges. Then, a full focus map is obtained by propagating the focus values at edge locations to the entire image. The proposed method and the state-of-the-art methods are compared in terms of both quantitative and visual evaluation. Based on the results, the proposed method outperforms the other ones.

Pan-sharpening in remote sensing aims to obtain a multispectral image with high spectral and spatial information by combining spectral information of a low resolution multispectral image and spatial information of a high resolution panchromatic image. In this paper, a pan-sharpening method based on sparse representation was proposed. Firstly, a dictionary was learned from the multispectral image patches. Then, sparse coefficients of low resolution multispectral image and high resolution panchromatic image were calculated. Thus, pan-sharpened multispectral image was obtained by using these sparse coefficients and dictionary. The IKONOS satellite image was used to test the proposed method. The quantitative and visual results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in pan-sharpening of the remote sensing images.

Since the lighting conditions in strong contrast regions between the light and dark cant be estimated accurately by traditional center/surround Retinex algorithm, the over-enhancement and color distortion may exist. In view of this, combining with the human visual characteristics, a color image enhancement algorithm based on tone-preserving was proposed. A determination function was added to the bilateral filter to estimate illuminance image more accurately and weaken over-enhancement. According to human visual masking effect, the improved gamma correction was utilized to correct the brightness of illumination image adaptively and the local contrast of reflection image obtained by division was enhanced based on local statistics. Besides, the final enhanced image was obtained by combining illumination image with reflection image, which can make image appear more natural. Compared with other similar algorithms from both subjective and objective aspects, the results show that this method being applied to low-contrast color image enhancement can not only improve image clarity, but reduce color distortion.

One of the most vital components of diabetes mellitus that cause visual blindness is Diabetic Retinopathy (DR). The primary sign of DR in the retina is the presence of the microaneurysms (MAs) that cause because of injury in the retina as a long-term abnormality effect leads to diabetes mellitus. Early identification of the MAs helps us to reduce and prevent DR at the early stage. In this process, ophthalmologists continuously observe the previous and current fundus images obtained using the fundus camera manually which consumes more time and energy. In the proposed work, we describe a procedure for automatic detection of MAs by applying thresholding and mathematical morphology techniques, which alternates the tedious and time-consuming manual method. The set of techniques is used for detecting MAs from the RGB fundus image. Preprocess techniques are used to resize the input image. The exudates are eliminated using the thresholding technique. The optic disc (OD) and blood vessels are removed by implementing morphological methods, and the feature extraction is implemented, based on their size. The experiment was carried out on freely accessible dataset DIARETDB1. The performance of the presented method detects MAs from the RGB fundus image and the results obtained show us the positive sign of the proposed technique. This technique not only helps ophthalmologist in automatic detection of MAs, it also helps in keeping track of the current and previous results of a patient for diagnosis.

In this paper we present a novel framework for compressing images using saliency maps and KAZE features. The method involves adapting the quality factor in JPEG compression scheme for each block instead of using the same quality factor for the entire image. This is achieved by adapting JPEG quality parameter based on visual saliency and KAZE keypoints. Subsequently, a piecewise function is used to compress the least important image blocks with higher compression ratio while maintaining the overall perceptual quality and avoiding blocking artifacts. This work introduces use of KAZE keypoints for image compression for the first time in literature. We show that the proposed method outperforms the JPEG compression using PSNR and FSIMc evaluation measures especially at high compression ratios.
