The security of mobile and embedded devices can be *** improved by using Mobile-Trusted-Modules (MTMs). How these MTMs can be implemented and integrated in mobile devices is subject to current research. A major part of this research addresses different implementation variants of MTMs. MTMs provide many features that enable a platform to provide a trustworthy proof of its current ***. However, the security of mobile devices does not solely rely on MTMs it also depends on the boot process. This process forms the foundation for trusted services that are started on the device later. Hence, the TCG's mobile phone working group has published an approach how a secure boot process could be performed. However, their publication does not specify the required steps and components in detail, which allows device manufacturers to implement the process in many different ways consequently, many different implementations are possible. Furthermore, we propose a software image *** concept for our approach. The concept is based on the reference-integrity-metric (RIM) certificates specified by the TCG and allows an easy verification of the loaded software images as well as easy management of RIM certificates to support the secure boot process. Additionally, we show how it is possible to to use software based MTM, with our approach.

This paper proposes a fast segmentation method for still image based on a hybrid of clustering and morphological segmentation approach. The objective of the clustering is to partition an input image into a number of clusters such that the gray levels within each cluster are similar. The clustered image is further processed by using morphological segmentation approach, in which a seeded region growing however plays a role of the decision tool instead of a watershed algorithm for a remarkable improvement of processing time. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by comparing its region-based coding results with those of the morphological watershed-based segmentation method and the split-and-merge algorithm. The experiments results showed that region-based coding using the proposed algorithm yields PSNR improvement of about 1.5 dB over the morphological watershed-based method. Especially, the total time elapsed to segment an image using the proposed method is reduced about 1/6 and 1/3 compared with those of the watershed-based segmentation and the split-and-merge methods, respectively.

Night vision has been a subject of interest of various sectors. Border patrol, automotive industry, defense are just a few examples. Accidents at night could potentially prove fatal. Thus, lately there is a significant interest form automotive industry in conducting research in night vision. In this paper, we propose a new method for enhancing images taken with poor light conditions at night. This method is a modified version of the Wigner Distribution. Wigner distribution is one of the time-frequency representations. It has good capability of dealing with noisy images. In this paper, we have shown how the modified Wigner distribution can be effectively used for supplementing driver's vision during night and during snow conditions. The new method is evaluated with Mean Squared Error (MSE) criterion. Quantitative results and visual inspection show the robustness and effectiveness of this algorithm.

The task of vision system is to discern and position the target from growing environment for vegetables picking robot and provide kinematical parameter for the manipulator. Distance measuring is not only an important factor in influencing the positioning accuracy of picking target but also a difficulty for in the research of picking *** this reason,a new method of measuring distance by means of single camera for picking robot is *** dual threshold is adopted to segment the G-B gray images of the *** object's characters,such as outline,area,center of gravity,enclosing rectangle and the point to cut off,are distilled through contour *** width d of eggplant image at two location and the motion distance of the manipulator along optical axis are obtained separately,and then the distance z between the camera and the eggplant. Testing soft is programmed based on visual C++ 6.0 according to the measuring distance *** explain that the measure error is within±18mm when the measure distance ranges from 275mm to 575mm.

To speed-up the proliferation of advanced 3-Dimensional (3D) technologies into the consumer market, the influence of these technologies on the perception of 3D video should be determined. Currently, this can only be achieved using either subjective assessment techniques or 2D objective quality evaluation models. Even though the subjective assessment techniques are better than the objective models from the accuracy point of view, they are time consuming and costly. Thus, 2D objective quality evaluation models correlating with Human visual System (HVS) should be used to predict the 3D video quality perception of users in a reliable way with less effort. Video Quality Metric (VQM), which is a standardized 2D objective quality measurement model due to its well correlation with HVS, is used to predict 3D video quality perception of users reliably. However, ambient illumination context of the viewing environment, which has an effect on 3D video quality perception, is not considered in the quality assessments by VQM. Content adaptation is one of the key applications that need to use the perceived 3D quality assessments under different ambient illumination conditions at regular basis for ensuring improved video experience of users. Therefore, the standardized VQM model is extended using ambient illumination context and content related contexts (i.e., motion, structural feature, and luminance contrast) to predict 3D video quality measurement under a particular ambient illumination condition. The results prove that the extended VQM model can be efficiently utilized to predict the video quality perception of 3D video under a particular ambient illumination condition.

Being at the nexus of robotics and ocean engineering, underwater robots have been a developing research area. They can be used for deep sea infrastructure inspections, oceanographic mapping, and environmental monitoring. Autonomous navigation skills are essential for doing these activities successfully, especially given the poor communication conditions in underwater locations. Autonomous navigation technologies, such as path planning and tracking, have been one of the fascinating but difficult issues in the field of study due to the extremely dynamic and three-dimensional settings. Due to their short detection ranges and poor visibility, cameras have not received much attention as an underwater sensor. However, using visual data from cameras is still a popular technique for underwater sensing, and it works particularly well for close-range detections. In this study, the enhancement of underwater vision is achieved by combining the max-RGB and shades of grey methods. Then, to solve the problem of poorly illuminated underwater images, a technique known as RCNN (Region-based Convolutional Neural Network) is proposed. This procedure tells the mapping relationship how to create the illumination map. Following image processing, an RCNN strategy for underwater detection and classification is recommended. Two improved strategies are then used to change the RCNN structure in accordance with the properties of underwater vision. In order to deal with the challenges of object tracking and detection in underwater communication, a correlation filter tracking algorithm (CFTA) method was created. The properties of the invariant moment and area were looked at after the object's region had been extracted using a threshold segment and morphological technique. The findings show that the suggested method is effective for underwater target tracking based on RCNN-CFTA in the aquatic environment. Autonomous systems are able to make decisions and potentially take actions without direct human intervention, which requires some knowledge about the system and its environment as well as goal-oriented reasoning. In computer systems, one can derive such behavior from the concept of a rational agent with autonomy (“control over its own actions”), reactivity (“react to events from the environment”), proactivity (“act on its own initiative”), and sociality (“interact with other agents”) as fundamental properties \n[1]\n. Autonomous systems will undoubtedly pervade into our everyday lives, and we will find them in a variety of domains and applications including robotics, transportation, health care, communications, and entertainment to name a few. \nThe articles in this month’s special issue cover concepts and fundamentals, architectures and techniques, and applications and case studies in the exciting area of self-awareness in autonomous systems.
