OBJECTIVE: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is regarded as one of the most common endocrine-metabolic disorders among women of reproductive age, characterized by the complexity of its etiology, the interplay of multiple factors, and its polygenic nature. This paper utilizes the rigorous research methodology of traditional Chinese medicine network pharmacology to conduct an in-depth exploration of the potential mechanisms of action of modified Siwu Decoction in the treatment of PCOS. METHODS:In this study, we first identified the key components of Siwu Decoction using the TCMSP database, and subsequently conducted a meticulous screening of potential targets utilizing the SwissTargetPrediction database. Relevant targets for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) were comprehensively collected from multiple authoritative databases including GeneCards, Therapeutic Target database, OMIM, DisGeNET, and The Pharmacogenomics Knowledgebase. Subsequently, the overlapping portion of these two datasets was visually presented through a Venn diagram and imported into the String database to construct a protein-protein interaction network. Using the plugin function of Cytoscape 3.10.1 software, we conducted an in-depth analysis of this network and successfully identified ten core targets. Furthermore, we employed tools provided by the DAVID database and the Microbiotics website to perform an extensive Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis on the overlapping genes. Additionally, to validate the specific interaction mechanism between drug components and targets, we conducted molecular docking experiments using AutoDockTools 1.5.6 ***: After analysis, we found that there are 290 common points between drug targets and disease-related targets. In this paper we describe a visualization tool for representing the dynamics of graph algorithms. Toward this end, we designed a web-based framework which illustrates the dynamics as time-to-space mappings of dynamic graphs. Such static diagrams of dynamic data have the benefit of being able to display longer time spans in one view, hence supporting the observer with comparison tasks. The tool can show details about how an algorithm traverses a graph step-by-step in a static and animated fashion, for graph algorithm exploration as well as educational purposes. The animation together with the time-to-space mapping forms an overview-and-detail approach. By using flight carrier data from the U.S. Department of Transportation we show the usefulness of our interactive visualization for conveying graph algorithm dynamics. © 2021 ACM.

Railway transportation is closely linked to everyday lives while also aiding domain experts in analyzing national or regional development. However, discrepancies between travel time reduced by railways and actual distance pose challenges in visualizing the accessibility. Existing methods either struggle to simultaneously depict the accessibility relationships among all cities or disregard genuine geographical positions, leading to spatial cognitive confusion. In this work, we propose a novel approach to balance between the geographical positions and travel time between cities. We construct linear cartograms to represent accessibility while preserving better local railway network structures compared with existing methods. We further propose the A-Map system, enabling users to interactively explore the extensive development of China’s railway system over decades. We validate the effectiveness of our proposed layout algorithm from qualitative metric evaluation and illustrate the applicability of our system with results.

The study of such a complex phenomenon as cancer, which depends on several but unexplored and unclear factors, needs new ways to visualize, analyze and combine different data both on species characteristics and genes function. To this respect, we propose a novel platform, named VarCopy, supporting visual Exploratory data analysis (EDA) in the context of Copy Number Variation (CNV) data. The platform will be publicly available as a web application soon, and is, to our best knowledge, the first tool allowing visual, interactive exploration and analysis of the CNV landscape of multiple species, allowing the identification of new target genes that might be useful for biomedical research.

In real-time multi-robot teleoperation, the operator faces a challenge of maintaining sufficient awareness of all robots in a team. We propose a novel approach to supporting operators, in instances where operators switch between controlling or observing multiple robots in a team. Just as how cinema or video games use visual and narrative techniques to support viewers when transitioning between scenes, we argue that multi-robot teleoperation interfaces should likewise leverage this transition time to provide pertinent information. That is, when switching to a new robot, the interface should take the opportunity to bring the operator up to speed, highlighting what happened while they were away, what current robot states are, and what specifics of the new robot being controlled are;thus, supporting situational awareness. In this paper, we outline this agenda and present our initial exploration and analysis of this informative visual transition.

This work presents a system which allows image data and extracted features from a real-world location to be captured and modelled in a Virtual Reality (VR) environment combined with Augmented Situated visualizations (ASV) overlaid and registered in a virtual environment. Combining these technologies with techniques from data Science and Artificial Intelligence (AI)(such as image analysis and 3D reconstruction) allows the creation of a setting where remote locations can be modelled and interacted with from any-where in the world. This Enhanced Photorealistic Immersive (EPI) system is highly adaptable to a wide range of use cases and users as it can be utilized to model and interact with any environment which can be captured as image data (such as training for operation in hazardous environments, accessibility solutions for exploration of historical/tourism locations and collaborative learning environments). A use case example focused on a structural examination of railway tunnels along with a pilot study is presented, which can demonstrate the usefulness of the EPI system.

NASA's projected return to the lunar surface with the Artemis program opens the possibility for technological developments that maximize human exploration in ways that were unimaginable during the Apollo program. Specifically, the implementation of heads-up displays (HUD) has the potential to greatly increase astronaut performance during extravehicular activities (EVA) by increasing their situational awareness, providing relevant scientific resources, and presenting live personal biometric data that can safeguard mission success and astronaut health. Though they are an excellent mechanism for conveying information without incurring unnecessary physical strain, the implementation of heads-up displays in the vacuum of space presents challenges including: illumination variance;brightness;contrast;interface control mechanisms;and the general volume of data that can be conveyed without inducing cognitive burnout through clutter. To satisfy the desire to improve astronaut performance with HUDs while also accounting for the above design challenges, ALEXEI, short for Augmented Lunar exploration and Extravehicular Interface, was developed in the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) Spacesuit Utilization of Innovative Technology Laboratory (S.U.I.T. Lab) to be an augmented reality interface that can enhance an astronauts ability to conduct successful, scientifically relevant EVAs on the lunar surface. The resulting deliverable was created for the 2020 NASA SUITS (Spacesuit User Interface Technologies for Students) Challenge and balances features that past and current astronauts have expressed a functional desire for while also being cautious of human limitations in terms of visualizing and synthesizing information. Transactional Panorama: A Conceptual Framework for User Perception in Analytical visual Interfaces

Many tools empower analysts and data scientists to consume analysis results in a visual interface. When the underlying data changes, these results need to be updated, but this update can take a long time-all while the user continues to explore the results. Tools can either (i) hide away results that haven't been updated, hindering exploration;(ii) make the updated results immediately available to the user (on the same screen as old results), leading to confusion and incorrect insights;or (iii) present old-and therefore stale-results to the user during the update. To help users reason about these options and others, and make appropriate trade-offs, we introduce Transactional Panorama, a formal framework that adopts transactions to jointly model the system refreshing the analysis results and the user interacting with them. We introduce three key properties that are important for user perception in this context: visibility (allowing users to continuously explore results), consistency (ensuring that results presented are from the same version of the data), and monotonicity (making sure that results don't "go back in time"). Within transactional panorama, we characterize all feasible property combinations, design new mechanisms (that we call lenses) for presenting analysis results to the user while preserving a given property combination, formally prove their relative orderings for various performance criteria, and discuss their use cases. We propose novel algorithms to preserve each property combination and efficiently present fresh analysis results. We implement our framework into a popular, open-source BI tool, illustrate the relative performance implications of different lenses, and demonstrate the benefits of the novel lenses and our optimizations.

This study developed a simulation-based E-learning software to enhance the learning outcomes of aluminum alloy bending experiments for engineering mechanics students. The bending process was modeled using simulation software on a server infrastructure. Mises stress contour plots generated from the simulations were incorporated into an E-learning application developed using C# for educational purposes. The findings demonstrate the software’s effective impact on improving comprehension. visual materials such as stress distribution diagrams significantly enhanced learners’ understanding of abstract concepts. The software also led to notable increases in learner enthusiasm and interest in the subject. Post-experiment surveys showed 89.47% and 94.87% acceptance rates respectively, indicating the value of supplementing traditional teaching with digital resources. Overall, incorporating simulation technologies addresses scarcity of such materials and warrants further exploration. This research emphasizes the benefits of integrating simulation-based E-learning in mechanics education and lays the foundation for optimizing future educational experiences through innovative digital-focused approaches.

This study significantly enhances the accuracy and efficiency of image analysis for power transmission and transformation equipment by introducing large model technology, bringing innovation to the field of intelligent inspection for power systems. Through an in-depth exploration of key aspects such as data preparation, model selection and training, and image analysis processing, this research employed a pre-trained large model based on the Transformer architecture. It was meticulously fine-tuned and trained according to the characteristics of power equipment images. By preprocessing and augmenting a vast collection of power transmission and distribution equipment images under various conditions, the model successfully extracted features, achieving high-precision defect identification and classification. The model was evaluated using cross-validation and an independent test set method, confirming its superiority over traditional image processing and existing intelligent inspection systems through metrics such as accuracy, recall, and F1 score. Experimental results have shown that this research method significantly outperforms traditional techniques and existing technologies on key performance indicators. Despite significant accomplishments, there remains room for enhancing the model’s ability to generalize and adapt to intricate environments. Upcoming efforts will delve into streamlined model training techniques and refine the model’s architecture to handle more intricate power image scenarios. Furthermore, the fusion of large model technology with other cutting-edge technologies will be explored to enable more astute, adaptable, and real-time scrutiny of power equipment. This study showcases the vast potential and practical worth of large model technology in power image analysis and intelligent inspection, poised to propel the intelligent evolution of the power sector.
