A visual simulation system of human evacuation in subway station was introduced in the paper. The algorithm of data fit was designed according to the analysis of fire simulation numerical value and evacuation simulation numerical value, and the problem of the visual output in real time was resolved by the algorithm. The system was reviewed from model configuration, function, the establishment of model environment, and the visual simulation development tools. Based on personal computer as a hardware platform, this visual simulation system has been used in the Beijing Jishuitan subway station.

Spatial OnLine Analytical Processing solutions are a type of Business Information Tool meant to Support a Decision Maker in extracting hidden knowledge from data warehouses containing spatial data. To date, very few SOLAP tools are available, each presenting some drawbacks reducing their flexibility. To overcome these limitations, we have developed a web-based SOLAP tool, obtained by suitably integrating into an ad-hoc architecture the Geobrowser Google Earth with a freely available OLAP engine, namely Mondrian. As a consequence, a Decision Maker can perform exploration and analysis of spatial data both through the Geobrowser and a Pivot Table in a seamlessly fashion. In this paper, we illustrate the main features of the system we have developed, together with the underlying architecture, using a simulated case study.

In project management, many decisions are made based on multiple attributes (dimensions) of project data. However, these dimensions are usually condensed into one or two indicators in the analysis process. For example, projects are commonly prioritized using a scoring approach: they are evaluated according to predefined categories, which are then aggregated into one or two priority numbers. We argue that aggregated scores may only offer a limited view of project importance. Such scores tend to hide information that may effectively distinguish projects;this often leads decision makers to ignore the possible differences masked by aggregation. This paper presents a visualexploration approach that integrates human intuition and maintains the multidimensionality of project data as a decision basis for project prioritization and selection. The approach is based on the examination of portfolio perceptual maps, generated by a clustering technique. The research provides a useful and complementary approach for decision makers to analyze project portfolios.

Tag clouds have become a popular visualization and navigation interface on the Web. Despite their popularity, little is known about tag cloud perception and performance with respect to different user goals. This paper presents results from a comparative study of several tag cloud layouts. The results show differences in task performance, leading to the conclusion that interface designers should carefully select the appropriate tag Cloud layout according to the expected user goals. Furthermore, the analysis of eye tracking data provides insights into the visualexploration strategies of tag cloud users.

Neuroimaging genomics is a new transdisciplinary research field, which aims to examine genetic effects on brain via integrated analyses of high throughput neuroimaging and genomic data. We report our recent work on (1) developing an imaging genomic browsing system that allows for whole genome and entire brain analyses based on visualexploration and (2) applying the system to the imaging genomic analysis of an existing MCI/AD cohort. Voxel-based morphometry is used to define imaging phenotypes. ANCOVA is employed to evaluate the effect of the interaction of genotypes and diagnosis in relation to imaging phenotypes while controlling for relevant covariates. Encouraging experimental results suggest that the proposed system has substantial potential for enabling discovery of imaging genomic associations through visual evaluation and for localizing candidate imaging regions and genomic regions for refined statistical modeling.

by communicating and information exchange, agents can fulfill goals of multi-agent systems. Different communication languages and protocols have been proposed for agents. These languages are designed to transfer high level data and don't have appropriate efficiency to send sensing. hearing and visual information in real environments. In this paper a model to exchange such kind of data in an efficient manner is proposed which increases multi-agent systems capabilities. Model analysis and simulation results show the superiority of the model.

We describe a soil-landscape investigation conducted in a South Australian upland hillslope (128 ha) to understand the distribution and causes of saline-sodic soil patterns using convenient, ground-based geophysical surveys of the hillslope. These surveys included: (i) EM31 for deep (similar to 6 m) apparent electrical conductivity (ECa) patterns, (ii) EM38 for shallow (>1.5 m) ECa patterns, and (iii) Bartington MS2-D loop sensor for surface volume magnetic susceptibility (kappa) patterns. From these surveys we inferred hillslope distributions of: (i) deep (similar to 6 m) concentrations of salinity associated with deep groundwater systems and deposits of magnetic gravels (dominated by maghemite and hematite) (EM31 sensor);(ii) shallow (<1.5 m) soil salinity (EM38 sensor);and (iii) preservation of pedogenic magnetic materials (e. g. maghemite and hematite) (MS2-D loop sensor). We also describe terrain analysis to locate near-surface hydropedological patterns using topographic wetness index. When combined in 3D geographic information system, strong visual matches were identified between patterns in: (i) geophysical surveys, (ii) terrain, and (iii) soil survey data, thus allowing integrated interpretations of soil-landscape pedogenic processes to be made on a whole-of-landscape basis. Such mechanistic interpretations of soil-landscape processes reveal and map intricate saline and sodic soil-regolith patterns and groundwater and fresh surface water flow paths that were not revealed during a previous traditional soil survey.

The development of a systems based approach to problems in plant sciences requires integration of existing information resources. However, the available information is currently often incomplete and dispersed across many sources and the syntactic and semantic heterogeneity of the data is a challenge for integration. In this article, we discuss strategies for data integration and we use a graph based integration method (Ondex) to illustrate some of these challenges with reference to two example problems concerning integration of (i) metabolic pathway and (ii) protein interaction data for Arabidopsis thaliana. We quantify the degree of overlap for three commonly used pathway and protein interaction information sources. For pathways, we find that the AraCyc database contains the widest coverage of enzyme reactions and for protein interactions we find that the IntAct database provides the largest unique contribution to the integrated dataset. For both examples, however, we observe a relatively small amount of data common to all three sources. analysis and visualexploration of the integrated networks was used to identify a number of practical issues relating to the interpretation of these datasets. We demonstrate the utility of these approaches to the analysis of groups of coexpressed genes from an individual microarray experiment, in the context of pathway information and for the combination of coexpression data with an integrated protein interaction network.

Due to its nonlinear nature, the climate system shows quite high natural variability on different time scales, including multiyear oscillations such as the El Nino Southern Oscillation phenomenon. Beside a shift of the mean states and of extreme values of climate variables, climate change may also change the frequency or the spatial patterns of these natural climate variations. Wavelet analysis is a well established tool to investigate variability in the frequency domain. However, due to the size and complexity of the analysis results, only few time series are commonly analyzed concurrently. In this paper we will explore different techniques to visually assist the user in the analysis of variability and variability changes to allow for a holistic analysis of a global climate model data set consisting of several variables and extending over 250 years. Our new framework and data from the IPCC AR4 simulations with the coupled climate model ECHAM5/MPI-OM are used to explore the temporal evolution of El Nino due to climate change.
