By the structure of call graphs derived from huge amounts of Call Records, we call find out the Social communities ill the call graphs, and make different;market, strategies for these social communities ill real telecom applications. However, traditional telecom business., intelligence methods m-e short, of ways to understand the social interactions. To fill this gap, we propose a Telecom Community visual analysis prototype tool, called TeleComVis, to analyze the call graphs derived from Call Detail Records. In the demo, we will show (1) the functions of TeleComVis: (2) the critical techniques of finding statistically significant communities in real-world telecom applications. Using TeleComVis, users call both analyze the statistical properties, of massive call graphs and explore the statistically significant communities and the temporal links interactively.

We propose a method for the segmentation of medical images based on a novel parameterization of prior shape knowledge and a search scheme based on classifying local appearance. The method uses diffusion wavelets to Capture arbitrary and continuous interdependencies in the training data and uses them for an efficient shape model. The lack of classic visual consistency in complex medical imaging data, is tackled by a manifold learning approach handling optimal high-dimensional local features by Gentle Boosting. Appearance saliency is encoded in the model and segmentation is performed through the extraction and classification of the corresponding features in a new data set, as well as a diffusion wavelet based shape model constraint. Our framework Supports hierarchies both in the model and the search space, can encode complex geometric and photometric dependencies of the structure of interest, and can deal with arbitrary topologies. Promising results are reported for heart CT data sets, proving the impact of the soft parameterization, and the efficiency of our approach.

Improved reservoir characterisation in the mature oil applied to Gourara Field of Sahara in Algeria, aimed at maximising both in-field and near-field hydrocarbon potential, requires a clearer understanding of sub-seismic stratigraphy and facies distributions. In this context, we present a regional, high-resolution sequence stratigraphic framework for the Oued Namouss Field based on extensive sedimentological re-interpretation of core and wireline log data, combined with core analysis and published literature. This framework is used to place individual reservoirs in an appropriate regional context, thus resulting in the identification of subtle sedimentological and tectono-stratigraphic features of reservoir architecture that have been previously overlooked. We emphasise the following insights gained from our regional, high-resolution sequence stratigraphic synthesis: (1) improved definition of temporal and spatial trends in deposition both within and between individual reservoirs, (2) development of regionally consistent, predictive sedimentological models for two enigmatic reservoir intervals (the Formations I and ii), and (3) recognition of subtle local tectono-stratigraphic controls on reservoir architecture, and their links to the regional structural evolution of the Province. We discuss the potential applications of these insights to the identification of additional exploration potential and to improved ultimate recovery. In this research a procedure was developed to assess and quantify uncertainties in hydrocarbon estimates related to depositional facies, petrophysical data and gross reservoir volumes. This procedure was applied to the Gourara Field, which is a mature gas field in the Oued Namous Basin, Algeria. The aim was to investigate the reasons for an unexpectedly high hydrocarbon recovery factor.

The identification of significant sequences in large and complex event-based temporal data is a challenging problem with applications in many areas of today's information intensive society. Pure visual representations can be used for the analysis, but are constrained to small data sets. Algorithmic search mechanisms used for larger data sets become expensive as the data size increases and typically focus on frequency of occurrence to reduce the computational complexity, often overlooking important infrequent sequences and outliers. In this paper we introduce an interactive visual data mining approach based on an adaptation of techniques developed for web searching, combined with an intuitive visual interface, to facilitate user-centred exploration of the data and identification of sequences significant to that user. The search algorithm used in the exploration executes in negligible time, even for large data, and so no pre-processing of the selected data is required, making this a completely interactive experience for the user. Our particular application area is social science diary data but the technique is applicable across many other disciplines.

Sorting is one of the well-understood and widely-used interaction techniques. Sorting has been adopted in many software applications and supports various cognitive tasks. However, when used in analyzing multi-attribute data in a table, sorting, appears to be limited. When a table is sorted by a column, it rearranges the whole table, so the insights gained through the previous sorting arrangements of another Column are often difficult to retain. Thus, this study proposed an alternative interaction technique, called "SimulSort." By sorting all of the columns simultaneously. SimulSort helps users see an overview of the data at a glance. Additional interaction techniques, such as highlighting and zooming, were also employed to alleviate the drawbacks of SimulSort. A within-subject controlled study with 15 participants was conducted to compare SimulSort and the typical sorting feature. The results showed typical sorting and SimulSort work with comparable efficiency and effectiveness for most of the tasks. Sorting more effectively supports understanding correlation and reading corresponding values. and SimulSort shows the potential to more effectively support tasks that need multi-attribute analyses. The implications of the results and planned future work are discussed as well.

We propose a new method for handwritten word-spotting which does not require prior training or gathering examples for querying. More precisely, a model is trained "on the fly" with images rendered from the searched words in one or multiple computer fonts. To reduce the mismatch between the typed-text prototypes and the candidate handwritten images, we make use of: (i) local gradient histogram (LGH) features, which were shown to model word shapes robustly, and (ii) semi-continuous hidden Markov models (SC-HMM), in which the typed-text models are constrained to a "vocabulary" of handwritten shapes, thus learning a link between both types of data. Experiments show that the proposed method is effective in retrieving handwritten words, and the comparison to alternative methods reveals that the contribution of both the LGH features and the SC-HMM is crucial. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first work to address this issue in a non-trivial manner. © 2009 IEEE.

This paper illustrates the importance of classification and identification of rock types within integrated reservoir characterization studies. The goal is not to present a new classification scheme, but to draw attention to the benefits of a classification that provides the basis for populating a geo-cellular model with key attributes (porosity, permeability, saturation). Rock type, as derived from an integration of core examination, routine and special core analysis and wireline logs, and conditioned with well tests, facilitates geologically reasonable property prediction. The study concludes that a single classification scheme is impractical for all aspects of geological modeling. This work stems from a comprehensive reservoir description study of the Jurassic Arab C and D reservoirs of the Dukhan field. Core descriptions, routine core analysis, and visual examination of log data form the basis for recognition of an initial classification internally named ResFacs (Reservoir Facies). Because ResFacs originate from core, volume fractions and distribution are readily derivable from a cycle-based, sequence stratigraphic interpretation. Mineralogical and depositional trends of ResFacs form an initial conditioning parameter for models. This core-based classification is also used in all routine and special core analysis (SCAL) to segregate rocks of differing reservoir quality. It forms the common variable between all other classifications. SCAL data reveals reservoir quality trends that are not resolvable from core description and routine analyses alone. Most important were trends in fine-grained, muddy limestones and very coarse-grained lime grainstones. MICP data and saturation height modeling reveals a small volume of low porosity lime mudstones with such fine pore systems that they are unlikely to have been filled with hydrocarbons. A regional thermal-maturity model of the Arabian Plate petroleum source rocks was constructed using ExxonMobil's Stellar ™ basin-modeling software. The model integrates plate-wide structural maps at 19 unconformities spanning the Phanerozoic era, with estimates of the amount of missing section at ten major unconformities (Figure 1) and is calibrated to regional temperature and maturity data. Timing of generation and volume of hydrocarbon yields are constrained by source-rock kinetics. Kinetic parameters from the analysis of individual source rocks were used in conjunction with maps of source-rock distribution to predict thermal maturity, volume and extent of oil and gas generation (Figure 2a;2b;2c). Volume and timing of generated hydrocarbon predicted from source-rock kinetic analyses have implications for regional hydrocarbon system evaluations. Several Middle Eastern organic-rich rocks were subjected to open-system programmed pyrolysis to determine the activation-energy distributions for petroleum generation. A burial rate of 1°C/m.y. was assumed. The resultant kinetic parameters were incorporated into the basin model and yield volumes were calculated. The source rocks were deposited in marine to restricted-marine environments and contain Type I or ii Organic Matter. Oil generation curves for each source rock were compared to curves from "standard" Type I, ii, iiS and iiI source rocks (Sweeney et al., 1987;Lewan, 1985;Lewan and Buchardt, 1989;Issler and Snowdon, 1990). The integration of Rock-Eval pyrolysis geochemical data with custom kinetics in numerical modeling indicates that source rocks of the Silurian Qusaiba Formation will generate light hydrocarbons at a lower maturity and over a wider range of maturity than other Middle Eastern marine source rocks, such as the Upper Jurassic Naokelekan Formation (Type I) and Cretaceous Shilaif Formation (Type I/ii). Most existing visualization tools utilize only the visual channel to represent information. Several studies have demonstrated that sonification, the use of sound as an alternative or additional channel for data representation, can help increase the dimensionality of the visual representation and aid in the interpretation of information. We introduce a new sonification module for a visual data exploration system, the Super Spider. It extends a previously developed interactive visualization tool to support data exploration using sound. We also introduce a new data sonification technique and system, 2D Sonar. We have integrated it into Super Spider. Finally, we present user studies conducted to evaluate and validate the efficacy of visual and auditory mappings devised for these tools, and their results.

The advantage of visual data exploration is that the user is directly involved in the data mining process, through analysis the results of the information visualization, user can integrate the specialist knowledge with the data mining algorithm. This paper summarizes current visualization methods applied in data mining. Current applications about visual data mining technique are analyzed combining with some national advanced data mining tools. Trends are clarified based on the task and object of visual data mining.
