We present LiveRAC, a visualization system that supports the analysis of large collections of system management time-series data consisting of hundreds of parameters across thousands of network devices. LiveRAC provides high information density using a reorderable matrix of charts, with semantic zooming adapting each chart's visual representation to the available space. LiveRAC allows side-by-side visual comparison of arbitrary groupings of devices and parameters at multiple levels of detail. A staged design and development process culminated in the deployment of LiveRAC in a production environment. We conducted an informal longitudinal evaluation of LiveRAC to better understand which proposed visualization techniques were most useful in the target environment.

The use of information visualization tools that support multiple coordinated views for dataexploration and analysis has become more frequent. However, few usability studies have focused this group of tools. The goal of this paper is to perform usability experiments with tools supporting multiple coordinated views on the same screen, in separate screens and tools that support each technique individually. To ensure a fair evaluation, a complexity-based task taxonomy was developed The tools were therefore used to answer questions of the same level of complexity.

One of the central challenges in modern science is the need to quickly derive knowledge and understanding from large, complex collections of data. We present a new approach that deals with this challenge by combining and extending techniques from high performance visualdataanalysis and scientific data management. This approach is demonstrated within the context of gaining insight from complex, time-varying datasets produced by a laser wakefield accelerator simulation. Our approach leverages histogram-based parallel coordinates for both visual information display as well as a vehicle for guiding a data mining operation. data extraction and subsetting are implemented with state-of-the-art index/query technology. This approach, while applied here to accelerator science, is generally applicable to a broad set of science applications, and is implemented in a production-quality visualdataanalysis infrastructure. We conduct a detailed performance analysis and demonstrate good scalability on a distributed memory Cray XT4 system.

This paper demonstrates the synergy of common InfoVis and GeoVis interaction techniques and the logistic application domain demonstrated in the customized visualize Performance data (VISPER) application. In VISPER multi-dimensional, multi-source, time-varying and geospatial digital information from voyage analysis is represented to facilitate decision-making. Using common InfoVis components for multivariate data together with logistics visualization in a new synergy aids the users in their work examining ship and route performance. An evaluation of the usability was performed to gather insights for future development. The results from the evaluation show that the overall impression of VISPER was highly positive and participants enjoyed using it. Feedback obtained was highly valuable and directly applicable for improvements and further development.

It is stated that a closer intervention of experts in knowledge discovery can complement and improve the effectiveness of results. Normally, in data mining, automated methods display final results through visualization methods. A more active intervention of experts on automated methods can bring enhancements to the analysis; No meanwhile that approach raises questions about what is a relevant stopping stage. In this work, efforts are made to couple automatic methods with visualization methods in the context of partitioning algorithms applied to spatial data. A data mining workflow is presented with the following concepts: data mining transaction, data mining save point and data mining snapshot. Moreover to display results, novel visual metaphors are changed allowing a better exploration of clustering. In knowledge discovery, experts validate final results;certainly it would be appropriate to them validate intermediate results, avoiding, for instance, losing time, when in disagreement, starting it with new hypnoses or allow data reduction by disable an intermediate cluster from the next stage.

With the increase of terrorist activity around the world, it has become more important than ever to analyze and understand these activities over time. Although the data on terrorist activities are detailed and relevant, the complexity of the data has rendered the understanding and analysis difficult. We present a visual analytical approach to effectively identify related entities such as terrorist groups, events, locations, etc. based on a 2D layout. Our methods are based on sequence comparison from bioinformatics, modified to incorporate the element of time. By allowing the user the freedom to link entities by their activities over time, we provide a new framework for comparison of event sequences. Our scoring mechanism is robust and flexible, giving the user the flexibility to define the extent to which time is considered in aligning entities. Incorporated with high interactivity, the user can efficiently navigate through tens of thousands of records recorded in over a hundred dimensions of data by choosing combinations of categories to examine. exploration of the terrorist activities in our system reveals relationships between entities that are not easily detectable using traditional methods.

For the evaluation of data from stimulus response experiments dynamic metabolic network models are generated. With an increase of reaction steps and regulatory interdependencies the amount of the simulation data becomes hard to handle. In this paper, we present the application and extension of methods combining visualization and animation of dynamic models to facilitate the analysis of the complex system behaviour. The dynamic changes of metabolite pools and fluxes are simultaneous visualized within the network structure. Depending on the scaling used, different focuses can be set, e.g. to observe local dynamics or global concentration balances. For the visualization of the present inhibition and activation state of certain reaction steps of a metabolic network model a novel quantification method is proposed. The sensitivity analysis of dynamic metabolic network models leads to high-dimensional sensitivity matrices that vary over time. To process the enormous amount of data we use a colour scale transformation and the reorderable matrix method for the visualexploration of the time-varying matrices. The benefits of our methods are illustrated with the help of a metabolic network model of the central carbon metabolism in Escherichia coli. (C) 2008 IMACS. Published by Elsevier B.V. This paper describes the recent visual features of an interactive web-based tool that couples geographic map and visual diagrams in order to promote its use for users who need to remotely explore large multidimensional datasets in a spatio-temporal context for decision-making. The tool puts together useful techniques for dataexploration and optimization, by enabling the user to create and explore several interactive web-based visual reports of summarized data almost instantaneously. We describe the new contributions in a particular tourist datawarehouse.

A variety of applications especially ill the area of Web 2.0 produce frequently altering hierarchical networks. Thus application operators members of community websites hut also media. scientists often are interested ill gaining deeper insights in the complex structures of their project and its development over time. In order to enable a suitable visualization of such networks it is not only required to implement an intelligent data management but also a suitable network drawing engine that, cares for the user's needs - especially for visualization of network dynamics. This paper presents the XLDN visulization tool that enables visualexploration of evolving hierarchical networks. It includes a layout, generation algorithm that, allows for the preservation of the. mental map a crucial property when visualizing dynamic networks. BY utilization of;ill efficient data managment, and a parallel implementation of the graph drawing algorithm XLDN provides, a reasonably fast and interactive network visualization. This way XLDN facilitates ail in-depth evolution analysis of large hierarchic networks.
