We present MeasureFlow, an interface to visually and interactively explore dynamic networks through time-series of network measures such as link number, graph density, or node activation. When networks contain many time steps, become large and more dense, or contain high frequencies of change, traditional visualizations that focus on network topology, such as animations or small multiples, fail to provide adequate overviews and thus fail to guide the analyst towards interesting time points and periods. MeasureFlow presents a complementary approach that relies on visualizing time-series of common network measures to provide a detailed yet comprehensive overview of when changes are happening and which network measures they involve. As dynamic networks undergo changes of varying rates and characteristics, network measures provide important hints on the pace and nature of their evolution and can guide an analysts in their exploration;based on a set of interactive and signal-processing methods, MeasureFlow allows an analyst to select and navigate periods of interest in the network. We demonstrate MeasureFlow through case studies with real-world data.

Software tools that facilitate human interaction with data play a key role in the understanding of information from large masses of data. Interaction design in the domain of petroleum field exploration is a challenging task, in part because of its complex intrinsic context, and the lack of methodological framework to support design activities. The use of guidelines builds on the expertise of design specialists, but does not leverage the knowledge of the various stakeholders in the problem. In this article, we advocate a more socially comprehensive approach to the design of Human-data Interaction (HDI) applications, articulating design guidelines with artifacts and methods from Organizational Semi-otics and Participatory Design. Our investigation defines a process for the design of visualdataanalysis tools and conducts a case study in the context of petroleum production strategy with the participation of key stakeholders. We propose practices for each step of our design process. Adapted participatory practices combined with design guidelines were used to clarify the problem, design the solution, and evaluate the prototype. Participants showed satisfaction with the employed design practices and the outcomes.

Recently, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) have been widely researched to accomplish tasks such as structural inspection, drone racing, and exploration of an unknown environment. To make the most of UAV and correctly estimate its pose with inexpensive and light-weight sensors such as Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and cameras, visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) has been intensively researched. There were a few analyses on the performance of VIO methods where only estimated pose error and utilization of the computing resources were considered. However, the performance of them according to trajectory planning was not treated. Trajectory planning can be one of the main reasons for the drift of localization from VIO since the sensors acquire the data at their sampling rates. In this paper, we analyze the performance of VIO on various trajectories that have different orders of polynomials for the desired position over time and hence different velocity, acceleration, and the first, second derivative of acceleration, using simulator which reflects the real dynamics of UAV. As a result, the higher the order of polynomial for trajectory, the better performance of VIO can be observed.

We present a system that combines ambient visualization, information retrieval and machine learning to facilitate the ease and quality of document classification by subject matter experts for the purpose of organizing documents by "tags" inferred by the resultant classifiers. This system includes data collection, a language model, query exploration, feature selection, semi-supervised machine learning and a visual analytic workflow enabling non-data scientists to rapidly define, verify, and refine high-quality document classifiers.

We present a visual analytics approach to explore and analyze movement data as collected by ecologists interested in understanding migration. Migration is an important and intriguing process in animal ecology, which may be better understood through the study of tracks for individuals in their environmental context. Our approach enables ecologists to explore the spatio-temporal characteristics of such tracks interactively. It identifies and aggregates stopovers depending on a scale at which the data is visualized. Statistics of stopover sites and links between them are shown on a zoomable geographic map which allows to interactively explore directed sequences of stopovers from an origin to a destination. In addition, the spatio-temporal properties of the trajectories are visualized by means of a density plot on a geographic map and a calendar view. To evaluate our visual analytics approach, we applied it on a data set of 75 migrating gulls that were tracked over a period of 3 years. The evaluation by an expert user confirms that our approach supports ecologists in their analysis workflow by helping to identifying interesting stopover locations, environmental conditions or (groups of) individuals with characteristic migratory behavior, and allows therefore to focus on visualdataanalysis.

Typically, people perform visualdataanalysis using mouse and touch interactions. While such interactions are often easy to use, they can be inadequate for users to express complex information and may require many steps to complete a task. Recently natural language interaction has emerged as a promising technique for supporting exploration with visualization, as the user can express a complex analytical question more easily. In this paper, we investigate how to synergistically combine language and mouse-based direct manipulations so that weakness of one modality can be complemented by the other. To this end, we have developed a novel system, named Multimodal Interactions System for visualanalysis (MivA), that allows user to provide input using both natural language (e.g., through speech) and direct manipulation (e.g., through mouse or touch) and presents the answer accordingly. To answer the current question in the context of past interactions, the system incorporates previous utterances and direct manipulations made by the user within a finite-state model. We tested the applicability of MivA on several dashboards including a COVID-19 dashboard that visualizes coronavirus cases around the globe. Our demonstration provides initial indication that the MivA system enhances the flow of visualanalysis by enabling fluid, iterative exploration and refinement of data in a dashboard with multiple-coordinated views.

In this paper, Knowledge Map is used to make a visualanalysis of 802 Chinese papers related to smart scenic spot research collected by CNKI, discuss the hot spots and development trends of smart scenic spot research in China. The research finds that the promotion of smart tourism policy plays a positive role in promoting the national smart tourism reform plan and realizing the establishment and implementation of smart tourism scenic spots in various regions, thus driving the growth of literature quantity. Nowdays the hotspots of smart tourism research in China focus on "smart scenic spots" "smart tourism" "scenic spot management" and "tourist attractions", with increasing heat. However, core authors and institutions published fewer papers, and their cooperation with each other was scattered, so no representative academic group was formed. At the same time, the cooperation of most research institutions in China is divided by regional scope, and trans-regional, cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional cooperation needs to be further strengthened. At present, domestic researches on smart scenic spots have gone deep into the practical application level, at the present stage, the development results are uneven, and the efficiency of production, education and research institutes is not obvious. In the future, the high-quality development of smart scenic spots still needs the exploration and deepening of scientific researchers.
