Correct depth of anesthesia (DOA) assessment is a serious and widespread medical problem and an active scientific research topic. Anesthesia is known to alter the dynamics of neural networks within the brain that ultimately results in the impairment of pain perception. Nevertheless, linking the composition and dosage of various anesthetics, to a target level of anesthesia is not trivial. In this paper we explore the use of microstates as a viable tool to discriminate between anesthesia levels in intracranial recordings from mouse visual cortex. We show such symbolic analysis is able to capture DOA specific information in local field potentials (LFP). Microstates are characterized by the appearance of set of prototypical maps of activations over recording sites (electrodes) that define stereotypical patterns of activation in the recorded neural networks. Although microstates have been defined and characterized in electroencephalogram (EEG) data, our study shows for the first time that microstates can be effective when considering LFPs as well. We performed statistical analysis of average duration, time coverage, and occurrence of the microstates in order to differentiate between different DOA levels. By increasing the number of microstates, the analysis is more insightful and it is easier to discriminate between DOA levels.

Radio wave tomography (radiotommography) allows restoring the shape of objects hidden behind radio-transparent barriers. Radiotommography detectors use this technology for location and visualization for metal, metalized, and dielectric communications in walls and floors. An interpretation of tomography images obtained during radio wave measuring is a difficult task for non-specialists. Moreover, they have no visual reference to the objects of the scene under exploration. To simplify a perception and analysis of the obtained data of radio wave measurements, we propose to combine digital radio and optical images of the scene. This article describes the solution to the problem of combining optical and radio wave images. It allows to estimate visually the size and position of the hidden objects. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

visual framing analysis is a key method in social sciences for determining common themes and concepts in a given discourse. To reduce manual effort, image clustering can significantly speed up the annotation process. In this work, we phrase the clustering task as a Minimum Cost Multicut Problem [MP]. Solutions to the MP have been shown to provide clusterings that maximize the posterior probability, solely from provided local, pairwise probabilities of two images belonging to the same cluster. We discuss the efficacy of numerous embedding spaces to detect visual frames and show its superiority over other clustering methods. To this end, we employ the climate change dataset ClimateTv which contains images commonly used for visual frame analysis. For broad visual frames, DINOv2 is a suitable embedding space, while ConvNeXt v2 returns a larger number of clusters which contain fine-grain differences, i.e. speech and protest. Our insights into embedding space differences in combination with the optimal clustering - by definition - advances automated visual frame detection. The unconventional Lower Najmah Limestone MFS fractured reservoir is a nanodarcy rock located below the Najmah Kerogen source rock. The first horizontal well drilled across the MFS is in North Kuwait and was drilled to explore the hydrocarbon potential. The 3D seismic interpretation and several seismic attributes indicate that the well location is likely to encounter a high fracture corridor area to support production after multistage hydraulic fracturing. The lateral length is approximately 1,900 ft placed in the MFS after reaching the planned total depth (TD), 18,900 ft. The well was completed using a 15,000-psi-rated openhole multistage completion (MSC) system to place six hydraulic proppant fractures and access most of the nearby natural fractures in the reservoir. Over 20 well interventions were conducted by coiled tubing (CT) to shift the MSC frac ports, log the well by caliper and spinners, perforate stages, attempt milling out the inner completion seats, and, finally, perform nitrogen lifting of the hydraulic fracturing treatment fluids to the surface. Due to the high-pressure nature of the reservoir and multiple additional completion challenges, it was difficult to initiate hydraulic fractures into the formation below the maximum allowable working pressure of completion. Therefore, 20 ft of 12 shots per foot (SPF) perforations were added per stage for four stages, which significantly lowered the fracture initiation pressures. Complete data fracturing analysis was conducted in each stage to redesign stimulation treatments. Four unconventional hydraulic proppant fracturing stages were successfully completed, sequencing high-viscosity slickwater and a crosslinked fluid system placing 110,000 lbm of proppant per stage into the formation. Multiple milling attempts were conducted with CT to reach TD but were unsuccessful due to uncertain obstructions. Intelligent transportation systems (ITS) use the latest technologies for real-time traffic control and monitoring to ensure efficient traffic management and reduce the risks of traffic accidents. The microscopic level of traffic modeling is the most appropriate level for controlling and monitoring the interaction between vehicles based on car-following scenarios. However, the data retrieved from sensor networks can be affected by measurement errors, and consequently the implementation of appropriate mechanisms to overcome their propagation to the control system is mandatory. This paper aims to analyse the current research in the calibration of car-following models and provide valuable insights of recent developments in this field. To achieve this goal, vOSviewer has been chosen as a visualisation tool to create bibliographic maps based on the output from the well-known scientific database Clarivate Analytics Web of Science (WoS). The maps obtained provide a visual representation of the main institutions involved in this field of research and identify the research interests based on author and indexing keywords. Furthermore, this paper analyses the top five clusters identified based on the analysis of co-occurrence keywords, presenting discussions about the connections existing within these clusters.

This study introduces the MOMA framework; a sophisticated approach to describing actions in complex video sequences with multiple objects and games MOMA uses deep learning, graph-based modeling, and computer vision powerful applications to better understand activities in complex environments. By applying functional classification to structured graph problems, MOMA is able to better describe complex behaviors and provide a deeper understanding of complex visual data. MOMA’s powerful multi-object detection system, which uses state-of-the-art models to efficiently detect and track multiple objects and actors, is centrally located at the institution In-depth activity analysis is facilitated by its accuracy. MOMA goes beyond simple object recognition to capture complex temporal and geographical interactions between objects and successfully extract complex relationships by using graph neural networks to provide MOMA’s graph-based activity parsing by the power of the. The result is a better segmentation of activities, capturing visual events more accurately and clearly. The paper includes a detailed description of MOMA’s structure, components, and activities. Its accuracy in describing complex behaviors has been demonstrated through a careful search of dedicated data. Ablation analysis reveals the importance of each element. MOMA has applications in a wide range of industries, improving robotics, virtual environments and surveillance. This state-of-the-art technology increases the possibility of multi-factor, multi-actor functional analysis and expands our understanding of visual complexity.

Multi-dimensional time-series subsequence clustering for visual feature analysis of blazar observation datasets

Exploring hidden structures in subsequences extracted from long-term time-series data is one of the primary tasks of time-series data analysis. Clustering is one of the most commonly used techniques in that context;however, various existing issues must be addressed, such as the way to extract less-overlapping subsequences and the definition of the inter-subsequence similarity. Especially in multi-dimensional data analysis, correlations among variables should also be emphasized. To boost users' exploration of the universalities of subsequences, we incorporate multi-dimensional time-series subsequence clustering methods and visual clustering analysis interface into TimeTubesX, which is an integrated visual analytics environment for multi-dimensional time-dependent observation datasets of blazars. TimeTubesX extracts and filters subsequences with various lengths according to the characteristics of the data and clusters them automatically in consideration of correlations among observed attributes. And then, it allows users to visually examine the clustering results in terms of the cluster features, intercluster transitions, and temporal distributions of clusters. Through the application to two practical case studies, we demonstrate how the enhanced TimeTubesX enables users to see not only instances but also universalities (i.e., time-series motifs or cluster prototypes) in time-series observations of blazars. The rapid growth of the scientific literature is presenting researchers with increasing challenges. That means relying on human resources to complete the mining of massive resources or the exploration of cutting-edge trends in a short period of time is impossible. To address this problem, this paper presents a method for visual literature research based on knowledge graph. The method is to use the software CiteSpace to make a comprehensive visual analysis of the origin, development, themes and frontier trends of intertextuality theory, and use artificial intelligence to process data, information and images, so as to complete the construction of scientific knowledge graph of intertextuality theory, enrich literature resources and improve the scientific research environment. The knowledge graph is a scientific measurement method which can visually present literature research results and ultimately realize the grand goal of artificial intelligence serving the development of scientific research. © 2021 ACM.
