Go4 multitasking class library with ROOT

In the situation of monitoring an experiment, it is often necessary to control several independently running tasks from one graphical user interface (GUI). Such a GUI must be able to execute commands in the tasks even if they are busy, i.e., getting data, analyzing data, or waiting for data. Moreover, the tasks, being controlled by data streams (i.e., event data samples or slow control data), must be able to send data asynchronously to the GUI for visualization. A multitasking package (C++ class library) that meets these demands has been developed at the Geselischaft fur Schwerionenforschung (GSI), Darmstadt, Germany, in the framework of a new analysis system, Go4, which is based on the ROOT system [CERN, R. Brun et aL]. The package provides a thread manager, a task handier, and asynchronous intertask communication between threads through sockets. Hence, objects can be sent at any time from a task to the GUI or vice versa. At the GUI side, an incoming object is accepted by a thread and processed. In a task, an incoming command is queued by the accepting thread and executed in the execution thread. Utilizing the package one can implement nonblocking GUIs to control one or several tasks processing data in parallel and updating graphical elements in the GUI. The package could also be useful in building data dispatchers or in slow control applications. All components have been tested with Go4 analysis tasks and a very preliminary GUI.

Recent oil and gas exploration efforts have met with success in the deepwater environment along the Sigsbee Escarpment in the north-central Gulf of Mexico. The topography of the Sigsbee is steep and irregular with numerous faults and slumps occurring on the Escarpment face. The complex topography is challenging for the collection of high-resolution geophysical data. Engineering quality survey data for the installation of export pipelines, infield flowlines and production facilities is needed. BP Exploration and Production Inc. (BP) recognized the limitations of the current survey technology and put forth a push in the industry for the development of a deepwater, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) survey platform. A commitment for state-of-the-art survey technology by BP resulted in C & C Technologies, Inc. (C & C) teaming with Kongsberg Simrad to develop an AUV platform for the deployment of high-resolution survey instrumentation capable of surveying to a maximum depth of 3,000 meters. An overview of the system, data processing and data examples from missions completed across the Sigsbee Escarpment are presented in this paper. The data from the AUV has provided a dramatic advance in the ability to map the seafloor, but it produces a large and diverse data set that can challenge our ability to process and manage the data. The great density of these digital data, however, offers the opportunity to take advantage of interactive 3D visualization techniques that can improve the efficiency and accuracy of processing, and provide an unprecedented perspective of seafloor morphology and processes. Fledermaus interactive 3D visualization software is used to aid in the analysis of the data. This program allows the interpreter to analyse in a single scene all the data from AUV survey, including the seabed from the multibeam sonar, draped side scan, subbottom profiles and the planned pipe routes.

A 4-D B-spline model has been created to accurately capture the dynamic motion of the heart from tagged magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The knot planes of the 4-D B-spline model surfaces deform to fit three orthogonal sets of tag surfaces for all frames within the constraints of the model's spatio-temporal internal energy. As an important byproduct, the points defined by the three-dimensional (3-D) intersections of the three sets of orthogonal tag planes, which we refer to as myocardial beads, can easily be determined by our model. Displaying the beads as a movie loop as a function of time allows for the visualization of the non-rigid movement of the left ventricle. Results are shown from both simulated data produced by a cardiac motion simulator as well as in-vivo pig data.

Wavelet methods for geometry encoding is a recently emerged superset of multiresolution analysis which has proven to be very efficient in term of compression and adaptive transmission of 3D content. The decorrelating power and space/scale localization of wavelets enable efficient compression of arbitrary meshes as well as progressive and local reconstruction. Recent techniques based on zerotree compression have shown to be among the best lossy mesh compression methods, while remaining compatible with selective transmission of geometric data at various level of detail. While some progressive reconstruction schemes have been proposed in the past, we show in this paper that this representation, recently proposed in the MPEG4 standard, can be efficiently used to perform real-time, view-dependent reconstruction of large meshes. The proposed system combines algorithms for local updates, cache management and server/client dialog. The local details management is an improvement of progressive reconstructions built on top of hierarchical structures. It enables fast, homogeneous accommodation and suppression of wavelet coefficients at any level of subdivision, with time complexity independent of the size of the reconstructed mesh. The cache structure wisely exploits the hierarchical character of the received data, in order to avoid redundant information transmission. The whole system enables the client to have total control on the quality of navigation according to its storage and processing capabilities, whatever the size of the mesh.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic affects public health infrastructure across the world. The outbreak is considered as third major Coronavirus epidemic after SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome) in the year 2002-2003 and MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) in 2015 since past 2 decades. It has been observed that the nature of growth of coronavirus is exponential. It has been tough to control and analyze the situation with limited human resource and treatment process must be carried for the large number of patients within an appropriate time. So, it has become obligatory to work on an automated model, grounded on computing approach, for curative measure. This paper concludes a Time Series Forecasting model and analyze the COVID-19 epidemic occurrence to check whether these numbers are going to be increased or decreased in near future. Statistical pattern analysis and data visualization is performed with widely accepted time series approaches as Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and its constituents Moving Average (MA) and Auto Regressive (AR). Finally, time-dependent parameters can enlighten the trends of the outbreak COVID-19 in India.

Spatial-temporal kernel density visualization (STKDV) has been extensively used in a wide range of applications, e.g., disease outbreak analysis, traffic accident hotspot detection, and crime hotspot detection. While STKDV can provide accurate and comprehensive data visualization, computing STKDV is time-consuming, which is not scalable to large-scale datasets. To address this issue, we develop a new sliding-window-based solution (SWS), which theoretically reduces the time complexity for generating STKDV, without increasing the space complexity. Moreover, we incorporate SWS with the progressive visualization framework, which can continuously output partial visualization results to users (from coarse to fine), until users satisfy the visualization. Our experimental studies on five large-scale datasets show that SWS achieves 1.71x to 24x speedup compared with the state-of-the-art methods. © 2021, VLDB Endowment. All rights reserved.

Image guided neurosurgery systems rely on rigid registration of the brain to preoperative images, not taking into account the displacement of brain tissue during surgery. Co-registered ultrasound appears to be a promising means of detecting tissue shift in the operating room. Although the use of ultrasound images alone may be insufficient for adequately describing intraoperative brain deformation, they could be used in conjunction with a computational model to predict full volume deformation. We rigorously test the assumption that co-registered ultrasound is an accurate source of sparse displacement data. Our co-registered ultrasound system is studied in both clinical applications as well as in a series of porcine experiments. Qualitative analysis of patient data indicates that ultrasound correctly depicts displaced tissue. The porcine studies demonstrate that features from co-registered ultrasound and CT or MR images are properly aligned to within approximately 1.7 mm. Tissue tracking in pigs suggests that the magnitude of displaced tissue may be more accurately predicted than the actual location of features. We conclude that co-registered ultrasound is capable of detecting brain tissue shift, and that incorporating displacement data into computational model appears feasible.

The potential impact that data leakage can have on a country, both on a national level as well as on an individual level, can be wide reaching and potentially catastrophic. In January 2013, several South African companies became the target of a hack attack, resulting in the breach of security measures and the leaking of a claimed 700000 records. The affected companies are spread across a number of domains, thus making the leak a very wide impact area. The aim of this paper is to analyze the data released from the South African breach and to visualize the extent of the loss by the companies affected. The value of this work lies in its connection to and interpretation of related South African legislation. The data extracted during the analysis is primarily personally identifiable information, such as defined by the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act of 2002 and the Protection of Personal Information Bill of 2009. © 2013 IEEE.

In support of the AFOSR program in Information Fusion, the CNS Technology Laboratory at Boston University is developing and applying neural models of image and signal processing, pattern learning and recognition, associative learning dynamics, and 3D visualization, to the domain of Information Fusion for Image analysis in a geospatial context. Our research is focused by a challenge problem involving the emergence of a crisis in an urban environment, brought on by a terrorist attack or other man-made or natural disaster. We aim to develop methods aiding preparation and monitoring of the battlespace, deriving context from multiple sources of imagery (high-resolution visible and low-resolution hyperspectral) and signals (GMTI from moving vehicles, and ELINT from emitters). This context will serve as a foundation, in conjunction with existing knowledge nets, for exploring neural methods in higher level information fusion supporting situation assessment and creation of a common operating picture (COP). © 2002 Int.
