Technical analysis of financial markets describes many patterns of market behavior. For practical use, all these descriptions need to be adjusted for each particular trading session. In this paper, we develop a "data Mining Tool for Technical analysis of the Futures Markets" (DMT-TAFM), which dynamically generates rules based on the notion of the price pattern similarity. The tool consists of three main components. The first component provides visualization of data series on a chart with different ranges, scales, and chart sizes and types. The second component constructs pattern descriptions using sets of polynomials. The third component specifies the training set for mining, defines the "similarity" notion, and searches for a set of similar patterns. DMT-TAFM is useful to prepare the data, and then reveal and systemize statistical information about "similar" patterns found in any type of historical price series. We performed experiments with our tool on three decades of trading data for hundred types of futures. Our results for this data set shows that, we can prove or disprove many "well-known" patterns based on real data, as well as reveal new ones, and use the set of relatively consistent patterns found during data mining for developing better futures trading strategies.

Exploring large data sets typically involves activities that iterate between data selection and data analysis, in which insights obtained from analysis result in new data selection. Further, data analysis needs to use a combination of analysis techniques: data summarization, mining algorithms and visualization. This interweaving of functions arises both from the semantics of what the analyst hopes to achieve and from scalability requirements for dealing with large data volumes. We refer to such a process as a progressive analysis. Herein is described a tool, Event Miner, that integrates data selection, mining and visualization for progressive analysis of temporal, categorical data. We discuss a data model and architecture. We illustrate how our tool can be used for complex mining tasks such as finding patterns not occurring on Monday. Further, we discuss the novel visualization employed, such as visualizing categorical data and the results of data mining. Also, we discuss the extension of the existing mining framework needed to mine temporal events with multiple attributes. Throughout, we illustrate the capabilities of Event Miner by applying it to event data from large computer networks.

Recent developments in sensor technology over the past decade have shifted the paradigm in environmental as well as oceanographic sampling and monitoring. The environmental and oceanography scientific communities continue to deploy more and more in-situ sensors either as single-unit deployments for generation of time-series and vertical profiles or as a towed-array for mapping environmental variables in surface waters in multi-dimensional space. Emergency response activities also are enhanced by way of real-time geo-referenced data acquisition using mobile in-situ sensor arrays. Against this backdrop, we developed a software interface for real-time data acquisition, analysis and visualization from a towed-array of sensors. This is the Multi-parameter Instrument Array and Control System (MPIACS) described in this paper and was used in the fall of 2002 during a mock oil-spill exercise in Corpus Christi Bay, TX under the auspices of the Texas General Land Office (TGLO). The interface is designed for correlative visualization along the transect between as many as six state variables or environmental indicators allowing for the implementation of adaptive sampling schemes. The software can also be used for scheduled sampling of water quality parameters in surface waters.

An integrated Ingress-of-Coolant Event (ICE) test facility was constructed to demonstrate that the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) safety design approach and design parameters for the ICE are adequate. Major objectives of the integrated ICE test facility are to estimate the performance of an integrated pressure suppression system and obtain the validation data for safety analysis codes for fusion reactors. The integrated ICE test facility simulates the current ITER components with a scaling factor of 1/600. The modified Transient Reactor analysis Code (TRAC) is used to verify the integrated ICE test results and clarify quantitatively the two-phase flow behavior in ITER during the ICE. From the results of the present study the effectiveness of the ITER pressure suppression system was verified experimentally, and then, water-vapor flow configurations in ITER at the ICE were visualized numerically by the three-dimensional computations using the modified TRAC.

In symbolic data analysis, we deal with the higher level objects, called "concepts." In the framework, a dissimilarity between two objects can be described as not only a single value, but also an interval, a fuzzy number, a histogram, and so on. Various clustering and multidimensional scaling methods for such complex dissimilarity data, called symbolic MDS and symbolic clustering, have been proposed. In most symbolic MDS methods, objects are represented by regions in real space (e. g. hypersphere, hyperbox and, so on). Denoeux and Masson (2000) proposed the hypersphere and hyperbox model of MDS for interval dissimilarities. In the hypersphere (hyperbox) model, objects are described by hyperspheres (hyperboxes) in real space. Moreover, Masson and Denoeux (2002) proposed the MDS method for fuzzy dissimilarities. In this method, an object is represented by nested hyperspheres which have a same center point. This constraint is very strict condition and not unsatisfied in most cases. In this paper, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for that two hyperspheres are nested and propose a new MDS model for dissimilarities described by percentile intervals. In our method, more general nested hyperspheres, which are not necessary to have the same center point, are used for representing an object.

The dynamics of the vehicle is strongly dependent from the quality and interaction between its subsystems. The quality of assembly and mounting of bearings can effect the characteristics of the system, especially its dynamical properties. The assembly process of bearing joints requires rather high pressing forces. At the same time the accuracy of the assembled components must be controlled with extreme precision. Rather small deviations from the predefined limits can cause quite severe complications, - such as necessity of maintenance, or just problems with dynamical response of the subsystem, especially under heavier dynamic loads. The goal of the study was to evaluate the status of bearing joints assembly, and to optimize the process of mechanical integration. The control of the mounting forces was altered introducing the high frequency vibration excitation. The resulting effect decreased friction and static load forces in the joint under the assembly. Experimental investigations of the system were based on laser holographic interferometry, enabling effective visualization of dynamic processes taking place in the assembled system. The optical measurement scheme had to be adopted to the complex set-up of the experiment. Numerical analysis of the mathematical model of the system enabled to optimize the parameters of the excitation and to produce best results in the sense of dynamical characteristics of the system. This paper presents a global sharing analysis and visualization of water quality analysis by 5D World Map (5DWM) system. The data resources in this research collected from Sichang Island, Chonburi province, Thailand during 1990 to 2002 and 2010 to 2017. Six parameters of water quality were selected during 1990 to 2002 i.e. chlorophyll a, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate and. The total locations sites were 21 stations which situated around Sichang Island. Otherwise, ten parameters were selected during 2010 to 2016 i.e. temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen (DO), pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, silicate, and alkalinity. On the other hand, eight parameters were selected in February and July 2017 i.e. temperature, pH, oxidation reduction potential (ORP), conductivity, turbidity, dissolved oxygen (DO), TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), and salinity. All parameter of water quality was added and display by 5DWorld Map in order to visualize and sharing the water quality. Our results showed that 5DWorld Map can apply to environmental analysis and semantic computing. We apply the dynamic evaluation and mapping functions of multiple views of temporal-spatial metrics, and integrate the results of semantic evaluation to analyze environmental multimedia information resources. 5D World Map System for world-wide viewing for Global Environmental analysis for water quality around Sichang Island, Thailand was reported in this study. © 2018 The authors and IOS Press. Quantitative assessment of regional heart motion has the potential to provide diagnostic data for assessment of cardiac malfunction. Local heart motion may be obtained with various medical imaging scanners, so the goal is to provide an imaging modality-independent display/analysis technique, In this study, 3D reconstructions of a canine heart before and after infarction were obtained from the Dynamic Spatial Reconstructor (DSR)(1-3) at 15 time points throughout one cardiac cycle. Deformable models of each time point were created. Through this process regional excursions and velocities in the mesh can be assigned to represent a piece of endocardium, which can be calculated for each time-point interval. These calculations are based on the distance change between a single vertex of the mesh and the model centerline from LV apex to aortic/mitral valve separation. This allows computation of color maps corresponding to regional values of contraction or dilation motion of the endocardium relative to the LV long axis (centerline) during systole and/or diastole. These color maps can be illustrated through model animations and multi view static images. Using functional parametric mappings of disturbances in regional contractility and relaxation facilitates appreciation of the effect of altered structure-to-function relationships in the myocardium.

This paper discusses some of the major results from the initial effort of the Predictive Failures and Advanced Diagnostics (PFAD) for Legacy Aircraft program. The primary goals of this AF Research Laboratory / Northrop Grumman project are to enable a prognostics capability for legacy avionics systems and to enhance their existing diagnostic performance. Major benefits of this program are enhanced aircraft availability and reduced Operation and Support (O&S) costs. Current maintenance practices and associated shortfalls are presented as an introduction to the PFAD efforts, in conjunction with the analysis of historic data by manual and data mining methods. The paper concludes with an initial HAD system design overview.
