The spatial-temporal traffic dataanalysis based on global data management is a newly developed and crucial approach to help traffic managers having the global view of urban traffic status in the level of road network, which is very clearly useful in traffic control and route guidance. The multiagent systems are used in traffic data management with full consideration of the characteristics of traffic data and the cooperation and workflow among them. In software implementation of data management, the agent-based common object request broker architecture is adopted taking the distributed urban traffic data in the large area under network environments into account. Based on the global traffic data, the approach of visualized spatial-temporal analysis is then induced. The similarity of traffic data is analyzed first for each link and its profile is achieved to undertake the primary processing of urban traffic data. Furthermore, analysis results are shown on the basis of the geographic information systems for transportation. The two types of visualization, pseudocolor and contour maps, are adopted in the demonstration to display the traffic status graphically and its changing frames. Among the applications in some big cities in China, the case of urban traffic analysis for Beijing is studied to demonstrate the implementation of the approach.

In this paper we focus on providing coordinated visual strategies to assist users in performing tasks driven by the presence of temporal and spatial attributes. We introduce temporal visualization techniques targeted at such tasks, and illustrate their use with an application involving a climate classification process. The climate classification requires extensive Processing of a database containing daily rain precipitation values collected along over fifty years at several spatial locations in the Sao Paulo state, Brazil. We identify user exploration tasks typically conducted as part of the data preparation required in this process, and then describe how such tasks may be assisted by the multiple visual techniques provided. Issues related to the use of the multiple techniques by an end-user are also discussed.

A method for the visualization of correlation-based data has been applied for analysis of the set of meteorological and environmental parameters that describe the air pollution. A visual presentation of data stored in the correlation matrix makes it possible for ecologists to discover additional knowledge hidden in it. The method consists of two stages: building of a system of vectors based on the correlation matrix and visualization of these vectors. Sammon's mapping and the self-organizing map were applied for visualization of the vectors.

Performance tuning of parallel applications usually involves multiple experiments to compare the effects of different optimization strategies. This article describes an algebra that can be used to compare, integrate, and summarize performance data from multiple sources. The algebra consists of a data model to represent the data in a platform-independent fashion plus arithmetic operations to merge, subtract, and average the data from different experiments. A distinctive feature of this approach is its closure property, which allows processing and viewing all instances of the data model in the same way - regardless of whether they represent original or derived data - in addition to an arbitrary and easy composition of operations.

EGOMiner, stands for Enhanced Gene Ontology mining system, is a CORBA based tool developed for genomic and proteomic dataanalysis, One key function of EGOMiner is to provide biological data interpretation based on Gene Ontology with quantitative and statistical analysis and visualization by direct acyclic graph. Cross comparison of multiple experimental studies is supported. The other function is quality analysis of microarray chip images. The input is raw chip data and output is visualization of the data quality of the chip image. This is system significantly improves the GoMiner system that was designed and developed by the authors.
We introduce the notions of systems of equivalence relations, affine ordered sets and projective ordered sets to draw connections between many-valued contexts, geometry, and order-theory. This gives rise to applicatio...

Since in practical data mining problems high-dimensional data are clustered, the resulting clusters are high-dimensional geometrical objects, which are difficult to analyze and interpret. Cluster validity measures try to solve this problem by providing a single numerical value. As a low dimensional graphical representation of the clusters could be much more informative than such a single value, this paper proposes a new tool for the visualization of fuzzy clustering results. By using the basic properties of fuzzy clustering algorithms. this new tool maps the cluster centers and the data such that the distances between the clusters and the data-points are preserved. During the iterative mapping process, the algorithm uses the membership values of the data and minimizes an objective function similar to the original clustering algorithm. Comparing to the original Sammon mapping not only reliable cluster shapes are obtained but the numerical complexity of the algorithm is also drastically reduced. The algorithm has been applied to several data sets and the numerical results show performance superior to Principal Component analysis and the classical Sammon mapping based projection. The examples demonstrate that proposed FUZZSAMM algorithm is a useful tool in user-guided clustering.

The importance of libraries that provide requisite data, computer hardware, and softwaqre for patrons tp perform spatial analysis and visualization is discussed. Many institutions are investing financial resources to acquire electronic data, computer hardware, and software to equip the libraries and to provide the requisite staff training necessary to support geographic information systems (GIS) and other activities. Providing access to electronic databases requires a review of existing administrative policies. A program is under development which will incorporate spatial information technology and dataanalysis to other disciplines such as business management, environmental science and transportation management.

Dynamic 3D models generated from historical, time stamped data provide opportunities for insights and understanding that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to gain in applications as diverse as the teaching and learning of history and the analysis of aerospace experiments. This paper describes how historical data in a temporal database can be used to generate dynamic 3D models expressed in VRML. The models include facilities to move back and forth in time, to hide or reveal groups of objects and their labels and to show the paths traced by individual objects as they move through space and time. The change of shape of objects over time can also be modelled. The tools described in this paper enable the user to create these 3D worlds automatically without needing to know anything about the underlying 3D modelling language employed.
