The features of the software tool-DDFgraph, which allows extraction and visualisation of dynamic data flow graphs computed at runtime, are presented. DDFgraph relies on a Lisp interpreter modified to monitor data use during program execution and to detect the corresponding data flow. The flow graph can be manipulated, in order to reduce the size of the graph, through extraction of some parts of particular interest and/or through compaction of given subparts leaving visible only global flow. The graphs produced by the tool support program analysis and debugging.

Food webs describe who eats whom among species within a habitat, and these networks depicting food chains have long been a central paradigm for understanding simple and complex networks in many scientific and social arenas. The structure of the feeding links within diverse food webs typically generates highly complex and dense networks whose details are critical to the behavior of ecosystems. Due to these issues, food webs are it is both difficult and very important to visualize and study food webs. In this paper, we describe 3D visualizations of food webs that address these difficulties with cylindrical node placement, minimal edge-crossing and link length, hierarchical node aggregation, and color-schemes representing different characteristics (trophic level, connectivity, generality, vulnerability, taxonomy, and biomass) of network nodes and links. These visualizations simplify the complexity, illuminate insightful information and provide an effective analysis on top of ecological Semantic Web. We describe our deployment of "Webs on the Web" (WoW) visualization and analysis tools on the world wide web to facilitate food-web research, collaboration and education. Given the variety of 3D visualization technologies on the WWW, our WoW visualization pipeline based on semantic web supports diverse formats and adapts to users' preferences by employing XML and a flexible architecture. Currently, WoW uses XML to semantically markup food web data (FoodWebML), extracts visual information into X3D format and then uses the information for direct display on VRML/X3D browsers or feeds into a Shockwave 3D visualization.

Mid-facial distraction osteogenesis is a novel promising method to correct severe mid-facial hypoplasia and retrognathia. Although aesthetic improvements are obvious, the analysis of three-dimensional bony changes created through distraction was impossible so far. Now, we present a tool chain employing voxel based registration and 3D visualisation to assess and analyse the structural changes induced by the treatment based on the routinely acquired pre- and post-operative CT images. A landmark based validation of the voxel-based registration provides measures to rate the obtained results. Application to real patient data demonstrates that this tool chain can help to act a better perception of the complex three dimensional deformations of the skull during treatment.

The study of embodied communication requires access to mul-tiple data sources such as multistream video and audio, various derived and meta-data such as gesture, head, posture, facial expression and gaze information. The common element that runs through these data is the co-temporality of the multiple modes of behavior. In this paper, we present the multimedia visualization for Situated Temporal analysis (MacVisSTA) system for the analysis of multimodal human communication through video, audio, speech transcriptions, and gesture and head orientation data. The system uses a multiple linked representation strategy in which different rep-resentations are linked by the current time focus. In this framework, the multiple display components associated with the disparate data types are kept in synchrony, each compo-nent serving as both a controller of the system as well as a display. Hence the user is able to analyze and manipulate the data from different analytical viewpoints (e.g. through the time-synchronized speech transcription or through motion segments of interest). MacVisSTA supports analysis of the synchronized data at varying timescales. It provides an annotation interface that permits users to code the data into 'music-score' objects, and to make and organize multimedia observa-tions about the data. Hence MacVisSTA integrates flexible visualization with annotation within a single framework. An XML database manager has been created for storage and search of annotation data. We compare the system with other existing annotation tools with respect to functionality and interface design. The software runs on Macintosh OS X computer systems. Copyright 2004 ACM.

A common problem in biomedical sciences is the in vivo identification and analysis of anatomical structures. This paper introduces several novel techniques to identify and visualize nerve fiber tracts and different tissue types using diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging data. Barycentric color maps allow an integrated view of different types of diffusion anisotropy. Ellipsoid-based textures and Anisotropy Modulated Line Integral Convolution create images segmented by tissue type and incorporating a texture representing the 3D orientation of nerve fibers. Finally streamtubes and hyperstreamlines represent the full 3D structure of nerve fiber tracts and their inherent diffusion properties. The effectiveness of the exploration approach and the new visualization techniques are demonstrated by identifying various anatomical structures and features from a diffusion tensor data set of a healthy brain.

The main idea of this paper is to introduce the support mechanism for the augmented reality system interface for dance analysis and presentation of single dancer. In our previous work [1] we described the basic characteristics of our system for dance analysis and presentation including the high interactivity between the user and the 3D dancer. In this paper, we introduce a subsystem for indexing and retrieval of dance video data. Generated video shots based on particular dance steps are annotated by using MPEG-7 descriptors originated from human body hierarchy and basic movement directions. The MPEG-7 based annotation is used as an index for retrieval of dance segments from different dances that hold similar steps. The search/retrieval process is done by querying the system with semantic concepts, keywords or annotations. The results are displayed and additionally visualized through the augmented reality system interface.

Detailed and reliable information about the current traffic state is hardly obtainable by the road user. Therefore, we propose a web based visualization of the current and future traffic load of the autobahn network of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. This novel traffic information system. called OLSIM. is based on an efficient and highly realistic traffic flow model, which is fed by traffic data of 4,000 detecting devices across the road network every minute, and a graphical user interface which can be accessed at ***.
