Challenges of the new nanometer processes have complicated the yield enhancement process. The systematic yield loss component is increasing, due to the complexity and density of the new processes and the designs that are developed for them. High product yields can now only be achieved when process failure rates are on the order of a few parts per billion structures. Traditional yield ramping techniques cannot ramp yields to these levels and new methods are required. This paper presents a new systematic approach to yield loss pareto generation. The approach uses a sophisticated Design-of-Experiments (DOE) approach to characterize systematic and random yield loss mechanisms in the Back End Of the Line (BEOL). Sophisticated Characterization Vehicle (CV)(TM) test chips, fast electrical test and Automatic Defect Localization (ADL) are critical components of the method. Advanced statistical analysis and visualization of the detected and localized electrical defects provides a comprehensive view of the yield loss mechanisms. In situations where the defects are not visible in a SEM of the structure surface, automated FIB and imaging is used to characterize the defect. The combined approach provides the required resolution to appropriately characterize parts per billion failure rates.

A stable algorithm for generating high resolution images from a small set of given low resolution images, obtained from various sources is described. The algorithm includes using image registration with sub-pixel accuracy based on matched filtering and adaptive filtering, imaging-sequence simulation using spatial domain filtering and non linear restoration filtering. In order to improve the computational efficiency of the algorithm, a low computational method for image registration is suggested, that makes use of motion estimation data contained in compressed video streams. The algorithm can be used to improve the visual quality of images, such as thermal sensors for military applications, as well as selected TV frames.

In recent years, many computer-based learning systems have been developed and practically utilized in real classrooms, due to the spread of computers and networks to schools. In order to make this infrastructure valuable, we have to discuss how computers can be useful for learning and creation to students. We are focusing on the utilization of histories of user operations, as the possibilities for building effective learning environment. In this paper we present the utilization schemes of histories for computer-based learning and creation systems. The first one is utilization of user operation histories for the dynamic problem extraction. We show the result of the analysis on the time interval between user actions and the system model based on the analysis. The second one is the visualization of user operations during creation process on SqueakToys. In order to provide the capability of focusing on interesting points of the creation process, we introduce the semantics layers of user operation events and illustrate the mechanism to handle them.

The detection of accidentally or illegal marine oil discharges in the German territorial waters of the North Sea and Baltic Sea is of great importance for combating of oil spills and protection of the marine ecosystem. Therefore the German Federal Ministry of Transport set up an airborne surveillance system consisting of two Dornier DO 228-212 aircrafts equipped with a Side-Looking Airborne Radar (SLAR), a IR/UV sensor, a Microwave Radiometer (MWR) for quantification and a Laser-Flurosensor (LFS) for classification purposes of the oil spills. The flight parameters and the remote sensing data are stored in a database during the flight. A Pollution Observation Log is completed by the operator consisting of information about the detected oil spill (e.g. position, length, width) and several other information about the flight (e.g. name of navigator, name of observer). The objective was to develop an oil spill information system which integrates the described data, metadata and includes visualization and spatial analysis capabilities. The metadata are essential for further statistical analysis in spatial and temporal domains of oil spill occurrences and of the surveillance itself. It should facilitate the communication and distribution of metadata between the administrative bodies and partners of the German oil spill surveillance system. A connection between a GIS and the database allows to use the powerful visualization and spatial analysis functionality of the GIS in conjunction with the oil spill database.

visualization techniques for simulations are often limited to statistical reports, graphs, and charts, but simulations can be enhanced through the use of animation. A spatio-temporal animation allows a viewer to observe a simulation operate, rather than deduce it from numerical output. The Route Viewer, developed by Argonne National Laboratory, is a two-dimensional animation model that animates the objects and events produced by a discrete event simulation. It operates in a playback mode, whereby a simulated scenario is animated after the simulation has completed. The Route Viewer is used to verify the simulation's processes and data, but it also benefits the simulation as an analytical tool by facilitating spatial and temporal analysis. By visualizing the events of a simulated scenario in two-dimensional space, it is possible to determine whether the scenario, or simulation model, is reasonable. Further, the Route Viewer provides an awareness of what happens in a scenario, when it happens, and the completeness and efficiency of the scenario and its processes. For Army deployments, it highlights utilization of resources and where bottlenecks are occurring. This paper discusses how the Route Viewer facilitates the analysis of military deployment simulation model results.

We introduce a novel projection-based visualization method for high-dimensional data sets by combining concepts from MDS and the geometry of the hyperbolic spaces. This approach hyperbolic multi-dimensional scaling (H-MDS) is a synthesis of two important concepts for explorative data analysis and visualization: (i) multi-dimensional scaling uses proximity or pair distance data to generate a low-dimensional, spatial presentation of the data;(ii) previous work on the "hyperbolic tree browser" demonstrated the extraordinary advantages for an interactive display of graph-like data in the two-dimensional hyperbolic space (H-2). In the new approach, H-MDS maps proximity data directly into the H-2 This removes the restriction to "quasi-hierarchical", graph-based data-a major limitation of (ii). Since a suitable distance function can convert all kinds of data to proximity (or distance-based) data, this type of data can be considered the most general. We review important properties of the hyperbolic space and, in particular, the circular Poincare model of the H-2. It enables effective human-computer interaction: by mouse dragging the "focus", the user can navigate in the data without loosing the context. In H-2 the "fish-eye" behavior originates not simply by a non-linear view transformation but rather by extraordinary, non-Euclidean properties of the H-2. Especially, the exponential growth of length and area of the underlying space makes the H-2 a prime target for mapping hierarchical and (now also) high-dimensional data. Several high-dimensional mapping examples including synthetic and real-world data are presented. Since high-dimensional data produce "ring"-shaped displays, we present methods to enhance the display by modulating the dissimilarity contrast. A tool suite for simulation based analysis of memory access behavior

In this paper, two tools are presented: an execution driven cache simulator which relates event metrics to a dynamically built-up call-graph, and a graphical front end able to visualize the generated data in various ways. To get a general purpose, easy-to-use tool suite, the simulation approach allows us to take advantage of runtime instrumentation, i.e. no preparation of application code is needed, and enables for sophisticated preprocessing of the data already in the simulation phase. In an ongoing project, research on advanced cache analysis is based on these tools. Taking a multigrid solver as an example, we present the results obtained from the cache simulation together with real data measured by hardware performance counters.

A platform-independent visualization framework that assists designer in the decision making while solving multidisciplinary design optimization is discussed. A physical representation of the design artifact and the dependency structure matrix (DSM) provide an interface with which the designer can view components or sub-systems using visual cues. The method enables the designer to better comprehend the impact of changes on the overall physical system. The method also allow the incorporation of analysis data and geometric data to produce an efficient design.

This paper discusses the development of a data modeling and handling methodology to display results from a large-scale Finite Element analysis in real-time from any geographic location in the world to aid in complex decision-making. The developed methodology enables real-time collaboration before, during, and after a complex engineering analysis. The collaborative capabilities include a three dimensional, interactive representation of the analysis data available through the Internet on any computing platform without the need of installed software or specialized hardware. A scientist has the ability to change data resolutions on-the-fly as well as view animated representations of the analysis results. In this paper, the developed methodology was applied to a geophysical situation. However, the benefits could be realized in a range of application areas from mechanical design to biomedical imaging. The details of the development are presented in this paper. The full paper will present additional descriptions as well as example problems.
