The usage of patents and journal articles for technology evaluation and monitoring are highly recognized. Unfortunately, there is a lack of identifying knowledge within. In this paper we propose an approach how to extract knowledge inside the document to develop a research map for monitoring and evaluating technology development. For this purpose, we extract vocabulary from the journal articles to represent knowledge in content of the articles and made linkage between researches represented by the articles. For case study, we used articles issued from 2004 to 2013 in “Jurnal Teknologi Industri Pertanian”. We was able to develop a technology map from the data to monitor the technology development and enable further network analysis from the map.

The first data and information visualization techniques and systems were developed and presented without a systematic evaluation; however, researchers have become, and are more and more, aware of the importance of evaluation (Plaisant, 2004)¹. Evaluation is not only a means of improving techniques and applications, but it can also produce evidence of measurable benefits that will encourage adoption. Yet, evaluating visualization applications or techniques, is not simple. We deem visualization applications should be developed using a user-centered design approach and that evaluation should take place in several phases along the process and with different purposes. An account of what issues we consider relevant while planning an evaluation in Medical data visualization can be found in (Sousa Santos and Dillenseger, 2005) ². In that work the question “how well does a visualization represent the underlying phenomenon and help the user understand it?” is identified as fundamental, and is decomposed in two aspects: A) the evaluation of the representation of the phenomenon (first part of the question). B) the evaluation of the users’ performance in their tasks when using the visualization, which implies the understanding of the phenomenon (second part of the question). We contend that these questions transcend Medical data visualization and can be considered central to evaluating data and Information visualization applications and techniques in general. In fact, the latter part of the question is related to the question Freitas et al. (2009) ³ deem crucial to user centered visualization evaluation: “How do we know if information visualization tools are useful and usable for real users performing real visualization tasks?” In what follows issues and methods that we have been using to tackle this latter question, are briefly addressed. In this paper, a statistical procedure to construct a control chart for monitoring air quality (PM10) using functional data is proposed. A set of daily indices that represent the daily PM10 curves were obtained using Functional Principal Component analysis (FPCA). By means of an iterative charting procedure, a reference data set that represented a stable PM10 process was obtained. The data were then used as a reference for monitoring future data. The application of the procedure was conducted using seven-year (2004-2010) period of recorded data from the Klang air quality monitoring station located in the Klang Valley region of Peninsular Malaysia. The study showed that the control chart provided a useful visualization tool for monitoring air quality and was capable in detecting abnormality in the process system. As in the case of Klang station, the results showed that with reference to 2004-2008, the air quality (PM10) in 2010 was better than that in 2009.

As a consequence of Law of Republic Indonesia No. 32/2004 on Regional Government, is the increasing number of local governments due to regional administrative growth, this has implications for increasing boundaries between regions. Until now, the total of boundaries between regions in Indonesia has 946 segments, and only 14% had been confirmed by Minister of Internal Affair Regulatory (Subowo, 2012 in Batubara, 2013). Therefore, it is needed effort to accelerate the determination of boundaries between regions. Through utilization of remote sensing imagery and GIS analysis is as an alternative method to accelerate the process towards the establishment of the border. After preprocessing process, then was done delineation by using cartometric method as visualization of boundary in the field. The results of this cartometric boundary, is requested clarification through discussion with local governments and communities. Utilization of remote sensing image and GIS in this process helps to reduce the measurement boundary point in the field so can save time and costs. Where previously, as stated in Ministry of Internal Affair Regulatory Number 1/2006, focused on the assertion border in order to create a clear and definite areas boundaries of both juridical and physical aspects in the field, so that the process takes more time. These corridor maps and recommendation as technical assessment proposed by Information Geospatial Agency (BIG) to Ministry of Home Affairs as input for establishment of legal aspect. This acceleration effort on administration boundaries delimitation between regions will accelerate the establishment of legal certainty and reduces the horizontal conflicts in Indonesia.

This paper presents a novel approach to urban scale energy information modeling that integrates 24x7 high fidelity energy demand data from every building on a 28-acre urban neighborhood located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. The simulation input parameters are in accordance with ASHRAE 90.1- 2010 and DOE reference buildings 2004. The 28-acre site is zoned for mixed use development comprismg residential, commercial and retail land use types. Since its insertion into orbit in 2004, the Cassini-Huygens spacecraft has completed an extensive study of Saturn, its rings, and its moons. The wealth of high resolution images and data that it has sent back calls fort he development of dedicated interactive, immersive, multipurpose analysis and visualization tools. Alongside with observations, numerical simulations also provide new insights into the fundamental processes at stake in the formation of planetary systems. The SDvision graphical interface, developped in the context of IDL Object Graphics and intended primarily for the visualization of complex and massive astrophysical plasma simulations, has been extended to provide an interactive visualization of both numerical simulations and observations of Saturn, its rings, and its moons. The various functionalities offered by this tool in terms of exploration and navigation through these complex data are illustrated and discussed. © 2011 IEEE.

The electricity distribution regulation and efficiency benchmarking practice in Finland has drawn attention because of its controversial regulatory scheme and arguably efficient electricity distribution sector. This study uses a computational intelligence tool, i.e., Self-Organizing Map (SOM), in the context of electricity distribution efficiency performance visualization. A SOM-model has been built based on collected data for 2001-2004. It allows the reader to discriminate between the Finnish DSOs' differing operating circumstances. Through clustering and visualization, an overall perspective of the efficiency performance of the DSOs in 2001-2004 is rendered. In addition, such a visualization approach connects the DSO's efficiency performance to its respective operating characteristics, which is otherwise not straightforwardly indicated by only studying efficiency scores. This application provides evidence that visual data mining with the SOM as a complementary approach in electricity distribution regulation and efficiency benchmarking has the potential to be expended to other regulatory practices (e.g., yardstick regulation).

This paper proposes a visualization system for getting insight into future research activities from co-authorship networks. A bibliographic network such as a co-authorship network and a citation network is important information for researchers when doing a research survey. In particular, there are many requests on research survey that relate with researchers' future activities, such as identification of remarkable of researchers including growing researchers and supervisors. Although a citation network has received many attentions from researchers, it is not suitable for such surveys because it reflects researchers' past activities. Since collaboration of researchers is essential for researchers' activities, co-authorship network is suitable for predicting future activities. In order to get insights into future research activities by discriminating growing research areas from grown-up areas, the proposed visualization system provides the function for identifying research areas and that for identifying time variation of both network structure and keyword distribution. As a basis for getting insights into future research activities, this paper focuses on the task of discriminating growing researchers from supervisors. The effectiveness of the proposed system is evaluated through the detailed analysis of two participants' analyzing process of InfoVis 2004 Contest dataset.

Today many kinds of applications requires data containing actual three-dimensional data;fields like urban and town planning and pollution studies need 3D data, both for visualization purpose, as well as carry out many spatial analysis. This research -Management and use of distributed 3D data by open source Web-GIS software - is part of the Italian "PRIN 2007"* research project, aimed to build urban and suburban 3D models, and to interact with them using open source software only. Particularly free and open source software, used for the experimentation here shown, are Blender and PostGIS;the first one has been used to build and structure three-dimensional data, the second one for data allocation. These software interact using scripts, written in Python language. Buildings have been modeled upon the GIANT3D model (Geographical Interoperable Advanced Numerical Topological 3-Dimensional Model) developed in the research "PRIN 2004", regarding "Evolved structure of numerical cartography for Gis and Web-GIS". Python scripts, activated by Blender, allow to allocate data into a spatial database implemented through PostgreSQL and PostGis, that could be a remote database somewhere on the net;all geometrical and topological information, implemented in the 3D model, are so transferred in PostGIS. These information can be retrieved by Blender using other Python scripts, so Blender fully interacts with 3D data allocated in PostGIS. These data can be also accessed by many other clients, both directly using a database client, as using other protocols (like HTTP on the internet). Next step is to build an open source viewer, or a plugin for internet browsers, that allows client to visualize, explore and inquiry 3D model, retrieving data from database.
