Rapid and convenient access to digital image archives, as well as archive-based computational tools, are fundamental to many hypothesis-driven investigations of brain anatomy and function in health and disease. The complexity and density of brain image data requires the design of intelligent tools which allow scientific and clinical data, collected at numerous research centers, to be compared, integrated, and disseminated. We describe our results in the development of image data navigational tools, image analysis software, and strategies to represent populations of brain image data involving atlas descriptions of its variance.

There is also an important part of the digital earth strategy in many fields in order to resolve some comprehensive problems. Trying to take advantage of IDL data processing and graphic display function and ArcEngine spatial analysis function, in the Visual C # 2005 under the environment of hybrid programming mechanism, using of component design and development of integrated development technologies analysis of terrain visualization application operating environment. It should realize the 3D digital terrain expression and spatial analysis function. The results show that the IDL and ArcEngine integrated development method applied to the 3D terrain visualizationanalysis software platform developed operability and extension force with strong, both in terms of space efficiency and image dataanalysis, development costs advantages.

The ongoing technical developments on airborne laser scanner systems, with shorter pulses, increased operation altitudes, focal plane array detectors, full-waveform digitization and recoding, etc. provide new opportunities for the expansion and growth of military as well as civilian applications. However, for the continuing development of systems F and applications one crucial issue is the research and development of new and efficient laser data processing methods for analysis and visualization. In this paper we will present some recent developments on visualization and analysis of full-waveform data. We will discuss visualization of waveform data by inserting the waveform samples in a 3D volume consisting of small 3D cells referred to as voxels. We will also present an approach for extracting additional 3D point data from the waveforms. The long term goal of this research is to develop methods for automated extraction of natural as well as man-made objects. The aim is to support the construction of high-fidelity 3D virtual environment models and detection and identification of man-made objects.

Nowadays, in a highly-globalized world, the understanding of causes and consequences involved in the migration phenomena, and also the prediction of migration flows are important for development of national public policies and for urban resource planning. The high complexity of human im/emigration movements can not only be explained by economic causes but rather by the interaction among multiple additional factors (demographic, social, linguistic, among others). The application of Machine Learning techniques and datavisualization models on high volumes of raw data from countries can provide good insight to understand how indicators from countries are related to migration causes, and also to make visible the migration flows between the sending and receiving countries. This paper describes a tool which includes supervised classification and visualization methods to analyze country indicators and aim to discover the connections among these attributes and the migration movements.

A set of user evaluation studies were performed to test hypotheses about the efficacy and value of the use of sonification by itself and together with visualization to improve the process of interactive data exploration. Our results show that, in some cases, sonification yielded more accurate analysis results than visualization, and when combined with visualization, yield much better results than either one (visualization or sonification) yielded separately. That supports sonification as a valuable and promising tool that should be further studied as a complement to visualization systems.

This paper reports on a pilot study of three proposal writers conducted by the authors during late Fall 2005 and Spring 2006. In this report we discuss how well the data collection, dataanalysis, and datavisualization methods served the interests of our project and of the participants, along with implications for future research. Among the methodological issues we address: how to capture rich accounts of fragmented work without taxing participants too much, how to filter rich datasets that result from automated recording of work sessions to focus on specific issues, and how to visualize data to elicit follow-up information from participants.

We propose an approach for complex software analysis based on visualization. Our work is motivated by the fact that in spite of years of research and practice, software development and maintenance are still time and resource consuming, and high-risk activities. The most important reason in our opinion is the complexity of many phenomena related to software, such as its evolution and its reliability. In fact, there is very little theory explaining them. Today, we have a unique opportunity to empirically study these phenomena, thanks to large sets of software data available through open-source programs and open repositories. Automatic analysis techniques, such as statistics and machine learning, are usually limited when studying phenomena with unknown or poorly-understood influence factors. We claim that hybrid techniques that combine automatic analysis with human expertise through visualization are excellent alternatives to them. In this paper, we propose a visualization framework that supports quality analysis of large-scale software systems. We circumvent the problem of size by exploiting perception capabilities of the human visual system. Copyright 2005 ACM.
