The GIS plays a vital role in public health information visualization for public health information management, broadcasting, data management, statistical analysis, and decision supporting. This paper described the elementary requirement and the essential technology for public health information visualization and proposed a framework of the unified public health information visualization platform based on the Web GIS and visualization technology. The system framework adopted multi-tier system infrastructure that consist the sever tier and the front tier. In the server tier, the J2EE based architecture was adopted to construct a distrusted system infrastructure. In the front tier, the GIS map java applet is used to show the public health information with spatial graphical map, and the web based graphics figures such as curves, bars, maps and multi-dimensional visualization technology are used to visualize the public health information. The public health information contained the geo-referenced data, such as specific location, area code, latitude and longitude, street address, and geopolitical boundaries can be visualized with GIS distribution maps. The system infrastructure, functions, system integration, and some key technology were discussed in this paper. It would have the important practical value for constructing the visible public health information system.

This paper concerns an active indication method on data Envelopment analysis and its experimental application. While DEA works to evaluate efficiency for the decision making unit with multiple input and output, there are still problems as follows: It is not easy (1) to view each DMU's position from bird-eye, (2) to catch the relationship between a DMU and its dominant set, and (3) to get an improvement direction from the current DMU position to the dominant set. To solve these problems, this paper clarifies the visualization procedure for indicating performance improvement and applies it to Japanese prefecture evaluation and verified in a two-input/single-output problem and a single-input/three-output problem as follows: (1) data normalization works well under the assumption that returns to scale is constant, (2) logarithmic transformation is useful in the case that the data range is strongly biased, and (3) viewpoint in three dimensional graph should be changed for confirming the direction.

Cache performance is regarded as a critical issue that significantly influences the overall performance of a computer system. Hence, optimization with respect to cache behavior forms an important topic in both research and commercial areas. This work aims at helping the user in the task of cache behavior analysis with a comprehensive visualization tool. The resulted cache visualizer is capable of presenting the various aspects of cache accesses, and shows the performance data in a high-level, user-readable way. More specially, it directly leads the user to the data structures where excessive cache misses occur. It then further depicts the reason of theses misses. In addition, it helps the user to decide important parameters concerning some optimization techniques, e.g. padding stride and size of cache blocks. Examples of initial optimization based on the visualizer have proven the feasibility of this visualization tool.

Visualizing diffusion tensor imaging data has recently gained increasing importance. The data is of particular interest for neurosurgeons since it allows analyzing the location and topology of major white matter tracts such as the pyramidal tract. Various approaches such as fractional anisotropy, fiber tracking and glyphs have been introduced but many of them suffer from ambiguous representations of important tract systems and the related anatomy. Furthermore, there is no information about the reliability of the presented visualization. However, this information is essential for neurosurgery. This work proposes a new approach of glyph visualization accelerated with consumer graphics hardware showing a maximum of information contained in the data. Especially, the probability of major white matter tracts can be assessed from the shape and the color of the glyphs. Integrating direct volume rendering of the underlying anatomy based on 3D texture mapping and a special hardware accelerated clipping strategy allows more comprehensive evaluation of important tract systems in the vicinity of a tumor and provides further valuable insights. Focusing on hardware acceleration wherever possible ensures high image quality and interactivity, which is essential for clinical application. Overall, the presented approach makes diagnosis and therapy planning based on diffusion tenser data more comprehensive and allows better assessment of major white matter tracts.

Information visualization is an effective way to easily comprehend large amounts of data. For such systems to be truly effective, the information visualization designer must be aware of the ways in which their system may be manipulated and protect their users from attack. In addition, users should be aware of potential attacks in order to minimize or negate their effect. These attacks target the information visualization system as well as the perceptual, cognitive and motor capabilities of human end users. To identify and help counter these attacks we present a framework for information visualization system security analysis, a taxonomy of visualization attacks and technology independent principles for countering malicious visualizations. These themes are illustrated with case studies and working examples from the network security visualization domain, but are widely applicable to virtually any information visualization system.

Extant Java Virtual Machines (JVMs) apply dynamic compiler optimizations adaptively, based on the partial execution of the program, with the goal of improving performance. Understanding and characterizing program behavior is of vital importance to such systems. Recent research, primarily in the area of computer architecture, has identified potential optimization opportunities in the repeating patterns in the time-varying behavior of programs. In view of this, we believe that by considering time-varying, i.e., phase, behavior in Java programs, adaptive JVMs can enable performance that exceeds current levels. To enable analysis and visualization of phase behavior in Java programs and to facilitate optimization development, we have implemented a freely available, offline, phase analysis framework within the IBM Jikes Research Virtual Machine (JikesRVM) for Java. The framework couples existing techniques into a unifying set of tools for data collection, processing, and analysis of dynamic phase behavior in Java programs. The framework enables optimization developers to significantly reduce analysis time and to target adaptive optimization to parts of the code that will recur with sufficient regularity. We use the framework to evaluate phase behavior in the SpecJVM benchmark suite and discuss optimizations that are enabled by the framework. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
